The Gaming Outpost’s very own Dak gives his thoughts and experiences at this year’s Origins gaming conventions. Lots of pictures included.

I was so inspired by the excellent impression of the Orlanthi culture that King of Dragon Pass gives that I went out and bought the Glorantha book for Hero Wars.

“A Distant Voice” is one of the runners up from the Silent Death Short Story Contest that was held on The Gaming Outpost.

For a ruleboook of only 26 pages, this is a surprising complicated game. Also, although the writing is generally clear, the system, game layout, and presentation are not cohesive. My advice: wait for this game to survive beyond the initial trial of consumer playtesting, hope the designers incorporate improvements into a version 2.0.

You know, when I got into this business it was my desire to write games. I wasn’t quite sure how to get my foot in the door, so I decided I’d freelance for some gaming magazines.

Well, Orkworld is done. For better or for worse. Written, edited, re-written, re-edited, re-re-written and re-re-edited. Three separate sets of eyes went on this thing (not counting my own): Jennifer Brandes, Chris Hepler and The Wife. We spent all weekend and some of a week getting it done.

My official title is “Director of R&D,” meaning I’m the one overseeing the development of the games and making sure no one slacks off. Unofficially, I also serve as the Webmaster, do some marketing, provide support for our games, and generally do entirely too much work.

This week marks production week for Underworld, so things are going to be a little hairy. In light of this, I figured I would provide folks with their upcoming Last Exodus fix by introducing you to a couple of the Apostles- The lead characters in The Last Exodus. So for this week, meet a pair of Messiahs from the heroic Apostate- Father Srdjan Dragomir and Jed Bronson- in the days before The Last Exodus.

The Blue Planet RPG is obviously a labor of love, a stunning backdrop of fact-founded, logically constructed, futuristic cyberpunk shaken up with the fictional American West and a dash of noir mystery, marred only by a twist of shallow, tacked-on game mechanics.
