Examining Parallel Dimensions

July 30, 2009 in Blogs

Somewhere there is a universe in which my mother-in-law is actually able to take care of herself without calling for help every ten minutes for something no one can fix anyway.  I know I have not mentioned her in a while, and I probably should not mention her now, but she is driving everyone here to complete frustration.  Hopefully the situation will change soon; meanwhile, I’m very frazzled and trying to help people cope who are even more frazzled.

I mention that other universe because today I posted another time travel article at The Examiner, this one entitled Temporal Theory 101:  What is parallel dimension theory?.  The theory articles are not, I think, pulling the readership that the Primer articles were, but they will provide targets for future links when I continue to write on future movies.

Examining Fixed Time

July 27, 2009 in Blogs

I almost forgot that I was going to post this here.  I did update the Facebook announcement and the MySpace bulletins, but I know that some people get their news of my writings here at the blogless lepolt, so I should let you know that I’ve posted Temporal Theory 101:  What is fixed time theory? at The Examiner.

I’m up to my eye teeth here, so I’m going to have to run, but I wanted to pass on that information to those who read.  After all, I need readers.

Talk About Time

July 23, 2009 in Blogs

The Examiner has asked its examiners to take a couple months to create what it is calling “Info 101 project” articles, answers to questions people ask or might ask, within our specific spheres of knowledge.  Mine is time travel films, and so I started the project today with Temporal Theory 101:  How does time work in time travel?.  I’ve got a dozen more articles drafted describing various theories and terms used including paradoxes and such.

The work takes time, as does the promotional work for it, but it’s growing in popularity, I think.

Ending Primer

July 20, 2009 in Blogs

I am not really finished with Primer, but today’s Examiner post, The End Beyond the End, is the last formally devoted to the movie.  As my Temporal Anomalies page shows, there are some questions to be addressed, but at this point I am shifting my attention to a theory and terminology project for the next several weeks.

In regard to the computer problem I mentioned yesterday, I have determined that it is somehow related to one of two programs which are both open when the crashes occur, one of which is open with a specific document and causes no trouble when other documents are open.  I have reinstalled the other program, and if that does not solve it I shall probably decide to copy all the text into a new document and delete the one I’ve been using.  That’s the best hope at present.

Posting Posting Problems

July 19, 2009 in Blogs

I am posting this here really because I don’t know where else to post it, and I want to make sure my readers, and particularly my players, are aware of it.  My computer seems to be developing a fault; it may be in the power supply, but it’s acting a bit odd.  During the first two hours that it was on on Friday, it spontaneously and abruptly shut down–went from fully operational to powered down instantly, just as if the plug had been pulled.  I had to shut off power completely for several seconds and restart–and then it did this again within a few minutes, requiring the same restart sequence.  It did not act up yesterday, but although the computer was on most of the day I did very little on it.  Today it shut down four or five times within the first two hours.  It seems to be stable now.

The only other point that might be relevant is that I have always had Word 2000 open when it shut down.  Other programs were sometimes open as well, but Word is the only one that is open whenever the system crashes, and I don’t have it open very long at other times of the day.  So the problem might have a connection there.

My primary point for posting is so my readers and players will know that I might have a more serious problem than I hope, and might wind up without computer service for an unpredictable period.  I would also be glad for any informed information concerning what might be the problem.  (I’m running Windows XP and have AVG up to date.)

Explaining the Inexplicable

July 16, 2009 in Blogs

I just posted Primer part 6:  the inexplicable traveler, in which I offer a plausible explanation for why Thomas Granger is present in Aaron’s neighborhood with three days’ growth of beard the night Aaron and Abe are on their way to punch Joseph Platts in the face, while at the same time he, Granger, is clean shaven at home to answer his phone.  This is another Temporal Anomalies contribution to The Examiner.

Primer Hit or Miss

July 13, 2009 in Blogs

Continuing the Primer series at The Examiner, I have now posted Primer part 5:  the punch that never was, examining the anomaly that could have been a disaster.

Prime Time

July 10, 2009 in Blogs

I was going to post this yesterday, but a certainly elderly patient who went into the hospital over the weekend was discharged, creating a huge amount of work for us which consumed most of my day.  Still, I did manage to upload the fourth post in the Primer series, entitled Primer part 4:  the wrong Aaron.

I also got a fair amount of e-mail about temporal anomalies today, but only one was specifically about Primer and it was not clear whether the writer had come from the Temporal Anomalies web site or from The Examiner articles (although the address he used suggests the former).  But one thing he said has me curious as to whether I missed something, so I’m hoping he will reply.

Another Dollar

July 6, 2009 in Blogs

Actually, a buck and a half–that is, that’s roughly how much money my account shows after the first week and the posting of two articles on The Examiner site.  The third, Primer part 3:  shot gun party, posted this evening.  Traffic is increasing, so there’s hope.

Time to Get My Head Examined

July 3, 2009 in Blogs

I mentioned last time that I am now writing for The Examiner, on Time Travel movies.  Last night I posted the second installment on Primer, Primer part 2:  answering the phone.  I also have watched the movie again–I’d like to say twice more, but really I was out of the room for part of one time and I fell asleep for most of another, and I don’t remember whether there was or was not a third attempt in there.  But I did collect the information I need for the next installment, which hopefully will post Monday.

I am also supposed to promote these articles through modern Internet systems with which I have no familiarity at all, so there’s a steep learning curve and I’m still at the bottom of it, I think.  But the staff is very encouraging, and hopefully I’ll figure it out before they lose patience.

The big drain on my resources, though, is family care at present; it may be that there is more of it than I can manage, and it may be that I’m going to have to manage a way to reduce it.  But we’ll see.
