A Passing Moment

Posted on 30 April 2008

I received word this afternoon that Scott Glenning, who had barely begun to play in our Multiverser forum game, has died.  I do not know the details.  He was a kind and friendly person who suffered somewhat severe disability from neurological damage in an accident; I knew him through church locally, where he appeared perhaps a year ago, and felt that there was at least the beginnings of a friendship there.

There is a saying somewhere that runs I use to complain that I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet.  Life is hard here, and my bronchitis atop my asthma makes breathing difficult, which makes everything else difficult as well.  In some ways I envy Scott–he got to go home first–but then, his difficulties exceeded mine, and he lived with them usually cheerfully.  I only met his wife once; I hope the best for her.

I could talk about the work accomplished today–the disruptions of the routine and the impact this has on my schedule–but it seems appropriate at this point to let those things slide and allow Scott to be put to rest in our minds and hearts.

Of course, it also means I may have to find another playtester for that world; but that’s a problem for another day.

Scott was a member of our gaming community for some time and was a very active member appearing on-line allmost daily. He went by the name Mr.G and was often on vent talking to us all as we flew through space. Scott befriended all he talked to. He’s friends are still found in Portugal, Canada, England the US and here where I am, Sydney Australia. He was active on our forums and shall remain in our hearts. Mr.G was a man of integrity, compassion and patience. Slow to anger, intelligent and at times thoughtfull.

It’s always hard to find the right words during times of sadness. I guess Dr Seuss said it best. “Don’t cry because they are gone. Smile because they were ever here!”. Mr.G leaves some 30 close friends in our on-line community who will miss him dearly but smile stupidly every time his name is mentioned. Our gaming communities love goes to his wife and girls.

God Bless Mr.G and Godd Speed.
