A Topic Ends Abruptly
December 9, 2009 in Blogs
I have over the years made frequent mention of my mother-in-law. That subject now passes into history. At 11:16 this morning, according to the health care professionals caring for her, she died. The better part of today has been spent addressing what must be done when someone dies, and there will be viewing, funeral, and legal loose ends ahead, but in the main she has stepped out of our lives and into another.
It may disrupt things around here a bit, but by now you’re all accustomed to the fact that I live from crisis to crisis.
Anyone who needs information about the funeral should drop me an e-mail or give me an e-mail address by which to contact him.

Remember MJ, even if you know you’re included in the will, it is still considered tacky to drive a U-haul the the funeral home.
OK, exceptionally bad joke, even for me.

Hey MJ,
My condolences. There may be some relief, or numbness, or sadness in this day. We enjoyed reading about the comedic struggles you had with her what with the need to go to the bank to deliver her checks, and so forth. So I knew her a bit from your words. She sounded vivid on occasion.
I too struggle with my mother-in-law. In fact, the song ‘all my exes live in Texas, and that’s why I live in Tennesse’ is surprisingly accurate for our lives down here.
Take care my friend,
Eric

Thanks, Eric.
My wife says that at points over the last year her mother was starting to feel as if she was driving everyone away and hurting everyone, which was not how she was years ago. It’s odd to think that less than a year ago when she broke the second hip we all expected that she would be returning to live in her own home right around now. She deteriorated very quickly, all things considered.
It’s going to be rough covering everything that has to be done and everything that has to be paid and still do something for Christmas. Her only real asset is the house, and it’s a bad market for liquidating homes up here–although it would only be worse in Detroit, right?

And yes, John, I am ignoring your post.

I was trying to make light of a bad situation. It was from a joke book about rednecks. Redneck etiquette. Didn’t mean offense. Really, it sounded funnier when I read it in the book than it did when I typed it out here.

And another thing. Honestly, I didn’t see how insulting that would have been until hours after I put it down. Really, it was meant as a “make light of a bad situation” extremely bad joke. Nothing more, nothing less.
