Alterations

July 18, 2011 in Blogs

We’ve reached reached the penultimate piece in the current Examiner temporal anomalies series, so we’ll be starting a new movie next Monday.  A Sound of Thunder part 15:  boomerang looks at the problems surrounding the notion that the time traveler who leaps to the past can make a quick stop on the way back to the future, at least the way time seems to work in this film.

I have been keeping up, day by day, with Eric Ashley’s contributions to the fiction content here, with several articles added since Thursday.  Practise Bits:  Hammer is an interesting idea of two people who work so well together because in some sense they are, or were, the same person, one of them visiting from another universe.  Practise Bits:  Iron talking about such a visitor seeking to push the technology forward by introducing metal weapons to primitive humans to use against large carnivores.  Practise Bits:  Malaise is a brief chronicle of a collapsing society which brings to mind the Fall of Rome, but also the truth that an author can make things work he expects it will, as long as he can sell it as plausible, and that does not necessarily prove it would go that way.  There is one more on the list, Practise Bits:  Peak, the beginning of a trek across a mountain to bring medicine to a needy but isolated town.

I have extended an invitation to a young aspiring fantasy/sci-fi author to contribute here, and get feedback from the rest of us.  If he shows, I do hope you’ll all welcome him, and give him feedback that is both positive and constructive.  I’ve run through a batch of member applications, but most of them look like Spammers and I don’t expect to receive replies to my confirmation notes, so I think he’s not here yet.  Of course, he might be reading, which is also good.
