Arriving At Salvation

Posted on 08 March 2010

I knew I forgot something last week; that is, I did something and forgot to mention it.  On Wednesday evening I spotted a copy of The Time Traveler’s Wife, and since I’m figuring on including at least some sort of analysis of it in The Examiner’s temporal anomalies series, I bought it.  I have not yet opened it.

Meanwhile, there was a massive surge on those articles yesterday–my traffic was well above the average for entertainment pages and very close to the average for the entire publication.  I wish once again that there were some way to tell what these people were viewing or where they originated, but for the moment all I can do is smile at the numbers.  I’ve posted the latest, Terminator part 9:  Salvation cometh, today, which begins the consideration of the recent film.

Are you gonna go see Hot Tub Time Machine in the theatres? Can you get a press pass through Examiner since you are a critic?

You are the first person to mention Hot Tub Time Machine, I think, although the title does ring a bell in the back of my mind. I will certainly keep an eye out for it.

Generally I do not review movies during their theatrical release, because my need to make copious notes and check my facts and details exceeds my ability to do so on a single viewing, so I work from recordings. However, I have made exceptions (Walt Disney’s A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey), particularly when the movie is popular and the problems are relatively simple.

I’ll have to ask someone about getting a press pass. Thanks for the suggestion.

Footnote: I will also have to find out whether the local Regal or other cinemas will honor such a press pass, even with the promise that they’ll be mentioned in the reviews. Just because you’re a film critic doesn’t mean the local movie theatre has to let you in free–they might think that I should have gone to the advance screenings in Hollywood or somewhere.

My friend reviews for an online publication and there are advance screenings across the country for reviewers so he gets passes. You prob gotta ask for info through examiner.

    Thanks. I’ll look into it.
