Happy MY Birthday
June 10, 2011 in Blogs
To celebrate my birthday today, I got up early (the 9-5 equivalent of three in the morning) to take the car to the shop. Two days ago we had a fuel pump and filter replaced, and it was evident that the vehicle had immediately begun leaking gasoline, so it was obvious that the place to start was checking the work. What was found was that the decaying rusted fuel tank was starting to break at the seams, and it took more hours to replace than estimated, and then a fuel line proved to be about to rupture and that added additional time; so I was sitting and reading from around eleven to five while my car was being repaired.
It wasn’t a total loss. I determined to hike out to find a cup of coffee and a donut around noon, and a friend I’d not seen for years, Joe, spotted me walking and took me for breakfast. But I rushed home and had enough time to reorganize plans so that I could get to rehearsal; we had a drummer for the first time trying to figure out how to work with Collision, and it went reasonably well.
I also managed to upload and mostly announce the next Examiner temporal anomalies article, A Sound of Thunder part 4: allosaurus. This one finds the peculiar problem that every time the time travel team travels to the past they shoot the same dinosaur. Yeah, it’s that obvious.
I do want to mention having read the latest few pieces from Eric Ashley. Practise Bits: Boots is unusual for the series in that no one is specifically identified as the immortal verser; the central character is a member of a combat assault team on a scouting mission that turns bad. Practise Bits: Zipline is part one of two, in which the immortal hero leads something like a special weapons and tactics (S.W.A.T.) pursuit team after escaping criminals, and Practise Bits: Pursuit provides the second part in which that leader does a bit of spelunking to catch the crooks.
To cap off the night, while I was writing this the power crashed and remained out for seven hours, part of which was devoted to reading, part to sleeping, and part to going out for a bite to eat; thus I observe that Eric has already added Practice Bits: Sniper, which I am about to bump down the page with this post but have not yet read; I hope to do so later when I decide to allow Friday to begin.

Sniper is the best of them,or at least the most emotionally wrenching.
You don’t need to read every one that I write (although of course, I love that you do.)
I’ll post my reaction to your Allosaurus article later.
Happy Birthday, and maybe I can come up with an article as a birthday gift.

So what are you now? 56? 57?

I was born in 1955, and oddly I had not realized that I was already 55 and was now turning 56 until someone asked me. She was surprised that I was over fifty, but I’ll always be Young, the downside being that I will certainly die Young.
