Smorgasbord Efforts

Posted on 30 September 2007

The weekend has been a bit disjointed, to say the least. I dabbled in a bit of this and a bit of that, but did not accomplish more than a bit of anything worth mentioning. The boys have largely left the house following the birthday weekend; the one I retrieved from Delaware Friday night I wound up returning to Delaware last night, despite the previous arrangement that someone else would make that trip. It got extended by an extra hour or so with a side visit to a friend, but I should not complain too loudly about this because it almost got extended an extra four hours to rescue a friend whose ride was not answering a dead cell phone.

It seems that my Friday blog post (linked above) did not post properly. It’s probably my fault–I must have saved it, but not published it. Anyway, it’s been posted now.

I’m sure I could list a score of things on which I did next to nothing over the last couple of days. Mostly I lost huge chunks of time because of a craft faire just close enough that it has to be considered local, just far enough that it’s a bit of a drive to get there. We caught the last ninety minutes of the Saturday session and then several hours today, in which a lot of money was spent on some very pretty but pretty useless objects which will make a couple of females happy. I am not much for decorative bits. I recently purchased a new light fixture for the kitchen fan, not because it would look better but because it would put out three to four times as much light as the new one installed my my wife’s decorator friend in July. I can look at something and say it’s pretty when you call it to my attention, but I won’t notice it otherwise, unless it’s in the way. Thus I don’t have much interest in these kinds of shows, as the whole point seems to be to spend a lot of money on something that looks nicer than an equally practical alternative, and that’s a point that does not work well for me. What I got from it is sore feet and worries about meeting the upcoming bills. Others got enjoyment from it, though, so it was worth the price, as long as I can get through the rest of today’s work before I fall asleep on the keyboard again.
