Sneezing At It

I got to thinking about the fact that Clare wins a five million dollar lottery payout and then buys a rather expensive looking home, and as it coalesced in my mind I found problems with that. I discuss those to some degree in The Time Traveler’s Wife part 11: millions, along with the question of what would happen were Henry to pull the trick again. Five million dollars might be a lot of money, but between twenty year payouts and Federal Income Tax it’s not as much money at it seems. That isn’t to say that if someone were suddenly to offer me a quarter million a year for twenty years I would decline (depending on what was expected of me in return), and as much as that would improve our financial situation, it would not make us independently wealthy. If you don’t believe me, check the temporal anomalies article at the Examiner.
Meanwhile, the combination of autumnal allergies and a dog who suddenly has to awaken me several times during the night (I think so he can sleep away the day when no one is in the bedroom), I’m falling asleep at the keys already and have more work than I expect I could do were I fully alert, so here’s hoping I can make tonight work better than I expect.
