It looks like the work of a bot. The name "Nick" was hyperlinked to some sort of automotive site. I edited out both the link and the e-mail address, but left the comment (it was rather inoccuous, and editing was readily obvious while I didn't see the ability to delete until after I'd done the editing). Probably next time I would just delete the comment, but I thought I'd alert you to the possibility that there's a bot program out there that has figured out how to comment here.</p> <p>I'll keep on it.</p> <p>--M. This is just like the tagging in the old system (and the tags you use here in the forums). Server wonkiness on a less than adequate host broke things in a way that would've been prohibitively difficult to repair. Jacob and I had been planning for a while to move GO over to a WordPress/bbPress based setup to address many of the shortcomings we'd found with the site, but we hadn't planned to do it so early. The new setup's in place, however, and all the articles and user accounts have been imported. The old discussion forums <a href="http://discussions.gamingoutpost.com">are archived</a> to keep the messages available, but all new talk should take place here.</p> <p>Now, some notes on how it all works.</p> <p><strong>User Accounts</strong> These have been imported, though you might have to use the password reminder function to get yourself a new password before you can log in. Also, login names don't support spaces anymore, so we had to modify them to reflect that. If you're having trouble logging in and your old login had spaces, try typing it without them. If you still can't get in, <a href="mailto:webmaster@gamingoutpost.com">email us</a> and we'll get it sorted out.</p> <p><strong>Articles</strong> are there. When you log in, you can write new ones. If you want to earn AdSense income off of them, make sure you give us your AdSense ID in your user profile. As an added bonus, we're now paying out <strong>100% of the AdSense impressions to authors.</strong> That means, if you take advantage of it, you'll earn all the AdSense revenue the site makes from your articles. We won't take a penny of it.</p> <p><strong>Blogs</strong> have been integrated into the system. When you go to write an article, there's a category for blog posts. Pick that and write away. One of the changes I'll make in the near future, as part of the roll out of actual author pages, will be to setup a blog area where those posts are singled out. For now, they'll mingle with regular articles and reviews.</p> <p><strong>Discussions</strong> As you may have noticed, there are far fewer forums. We plan to keep it that way. Instead of having boards for lots of topics, the new setup uses tags. For instance, if you are doing actual play for a Multiverser game, start a new thread in the Actual Play board and give it the tag "multiverser". Clicking on that tag on the board home page on the left, then, will take you to all threads, no matter which board their in, that have to do with Multiverser. It's a more elegant way to handle things and allows for an organic growth of topics.</p> <p>That's all I can think of right now. If you guys want to see stuff added to the list, post it here and I'll see what I can do.</p> <ul> <li><strong>Forum Layout/Integration</strong><br />The forums are running on the default set of templates that came with them and these obviously don't fit the rest of GO. I'll be updating the layouts to look like the site proper as well as getting the two halves integrated better integrated.</li> <li><strong>Author Pages</strong><br />These don't exist right now. I'll fix that. Authors will have their own pages within the site listing their articles and showing off bio and contact info as set in your account preferences. Today as in, I checked at noon and was formulating my ideas to reply to my game thread, and when I checked at 3 all the posts were gone.</p> <p>I presume the posts are still being cut over, but that's not what the only post on the board suggests. </p>
