Kyler was last playing in Kyler in a New City, which was filled with superheroes and supervillains. He got a job, got in a few scraps with some villains, and is now trying to enroll in school.

My last comment there was:

Actually, Saka has to get to work. She told them she would be late, because she needed to help you register for school, but she figures you'll be all right getting home from here (she does ask, but it's pretty obvious to both of you that her presence with you is not protector so much as partner). So if it's all right with you, she'll catch a bus to work and let you get home on your own.

--M. J. Young

Pick up from there.

Oak on "An Unfamiliar Familiar Forest, John Oakmaster alone in a new world"

Here continueth the adventures of Professor John Oakmaster (AKA "Oak", AKA "Dr. John Oakmaster", AKA OOC "John III"). Just when you thought it was safe... :)

These adventures begin in the B Movie Monster World Gather, in the archived threads "Stretching the Yellow Ribbon" and "John II Is Not At Home".

After versing out of that world, my character sheet looked something like this, plus or minus some of the items I had bought in that world (which were specified later).

These adventures continue in the current world Sherwood Forest, starting in the archived thread "An Unfamiliar Familiar Forest".

The action resumes in response to this post.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

I nod my head thoughtfully in response, and respond softly.

"I know. As it is written, 'Without faith it is impossible to please him...'"

I continue to get to know the others as best I can, and to make myself useful, and to minister to the needs around me.

I continue to learn what I can from the others. Outdoor skills, survival skills, quarterstaff and longbow, stories and songs and bardic ways and how to play instrument(s), ministering to the sick, woodworking skills (making quarterstaffs, longbows, arrows, musical instruments), etc.

I keep my eyes open for a hunk of oak suitable for making an oak quarterstaff, and work to make one. If it doesn't come out well enough, I repeat the process until I have a good quality oak quarterstaff.

I continue to look for ways to gently and lovingly promote Biblical faith, such as by singing suitable psalms and hymns and spiritual songs that include Biblical doctrine (as opposed to Romish doctrine).

I look for an opportunity to make or acquire a musical instrument suitable for a bard (small celtic harp, lute, etc.).

And I continue to ponder how best to serve the LORD here. For I know that I am sent to help these people... but how? By doing what I am already doing? By manifesting His power to heal the sick? By manifesting His power to help free King Richard from his captivity? Could I do such things? Should I?...

Hmmm... I sought the LORD's guidance once, and He clearly directed me here. Perhaps I should do so again...

M. J. Young on "Count Shawn Fighting, Shawn Kelley continues play"

Shawn's last post is at the end of King Shawn Arises in the archives. He long ago saved the throne of Ruritania for his near duplicate King Shawn (avoiding the masquerade usually pursued toward this end), was installed as Count of Zenda, and began preparing for the major political events of the upcoming twentieth century. He has fortified the borders of this little Germanic state against the expansionist interests of Bismarck and Kaiser Wilhelm, trained what may be the first modern special forces units, and made a deal with the future manufacturers of his own semi-automatic pistol for the production of similar pistols, while buying the best military supplies and support mostly from England. He has also taken steps to support the Russian monarchs Nikolaj and Alexandra and to bolster the Russian economy against the Bolshevik revolution. He is currently at a ball at the Ruritanian palace in Strelsau, where he is in conversation with the Duke of Kent, second son of the English monarch. In continuing that conversation, he wrote:

Well,

"It's oddly complicated.

You see, my family tells a story whereby five generations ago my very removed grandparents, Mother's side, immigrated from Ruritania to Britain due to some land title they had been granted near Gloucestershire.

My Father's side were lesser nobility from Italy, specifically from the Milan area.

As you know, that's about the same time that nobles began to have to sell off bits of property, titles, etc to keep the lifestyle they were accustomed to, and both sides of my family immigrated to America to seek the fortunes and prosperity that is always promised by that place. It was several generations before my parents were born, met and married - but I have always been facinated by Europe and my family heritage.

As soon as I was comfortable enough to do so, I sold my business and moved to Europe to live the life of a mercenary and perhaps idle gentleman. Thus I was surprised when on a cassual hunting trip to Ruritania I found a man related to my mother -and that man happened to be the King of Ruritania.

I had no idea really, but I am pleased to have tracked down at least one part of my family.

By the way, your party would be welcome at Zenda to observe a demonstration of both the Beretta and my military preparations if that would please you."

"Indeed! But, you are entertaining Her Majesty the Czarina at present, and it would be too much to impose upon you at the present time, I think--although I would love to see what you have done, when the time is better for you."

This follows on from PerPlexing, M. J. Young's Game Continues

MJ dies and needs a difficult Flexibility check. 18 is very close but still a failure so he remains at Stage 2

I'm not sure exactly what to do about Mitsuki. Technically she died before MJ did, but it was pretty close. Any input MJ?

You wake up in agony. You are in a vast shallow pool of some kind of acid. All of your equipment has corroded and lies broken. The skeleton of your practice dummy stands frozen in a mockery of a defensive stance somewhat reminiscent of the movie The Terminator.

Alice has never seen anything related to superheroes or supervillains, or any fiction about nuclear war or tensions that might lead to nuclear war, or stories about what might happen in the future. She is puzzled at the idea that something like this would be entertainment, and wants to know if it's a children's history book in another universe.

This is the reaction he has gotten from his hostess, a waitress named Alice, to the famed graphic novel The Watchmen. I will ask him to fill in other details as we progress.

Once his long-overdue play summary is finished and posted, this thread will continue Paul's game from Omega Academy. He'll be writing it, or at least most of it, but I've gone ahead and saved him the trouble of starting the thread for his new world. When his story reaches the point of his demise at the tentacles of a sentient cephalopod of mysterious origins, he'll link to this thread and continue the story here.

This thread continues the adventures of James Marsh, lately of Simian Circus: James joins the game. The transition from that world was made during live play, so I'll continue the summary here.

When James came to (after a dream-like experience which I won't attempt to recreate), he found himself lying on his back in a dank, rocky place, most likely a cave or cavern of some kind, in near-total darkness. Near-total, thanks to the great green slitted eyes, each the size of his face, which gleamed at him reflectively from the dimness. In their light he could just make out a scaly sort of snout - which might perhaps explain the alternating drafts he'd been feeling across his body, first warm, then chill.

As he sat up, there was slight motion from the direction of the head and eyes. A great voice rumbled out from the darkness, deep and contented and patient, each syllable enunciated with a connoisseur's relish:

"Ah, you're awake. How . . . wonderful."

___
James, if you have anything to add or any questions to ask, now's a good time. Otherwise - your move, slick.

You feel the blast above you, crushing you into the ground; then there is an abrupt hush, and you hear birds--not tropical birds, but song birds, woodland, not jungle, creatures.

You are groggy, but already have the sense that points you to Horus, this time pointing in two directions, and the sense that points you to your equipment in one of those.

You are lying face down, as you were, in dirt, thick loam, soft and untrodden.

Your fiance's sister shows you the latest and greatest in handheld devices, a Nintendo 3DSeye, which boasts the ability to simulate a three-dimensional representation of two-dimensional sprites by projecting the image directly onto the retina with a laser. The end result is that all of your favorite Gameboy, Advance, and DS games can be played in 3D without any additional hardware.

The battery starts to run low, so she plugs the charger into the wall. You notice a gold substance has leaked out from the battery compartment onto your hands, but before you can react she connects the other end of the charger to the unit. A massive spark shoots out the back, and the house breaker fails to trip, electrocuting you very thoroughly. You black out.

You have the sensation of weightlessness, gently floating, rising and falling. You open your eyes to see that you are laying in a giant ceramic bowl, and there are cherries skateboarding around you. Wow Wow Wubbzy and Dorer the Explorer are skipping in circles, and there are sunflowers singing unintelligible words in musical sing-song voices.

You take off the ring, and are momentarily disoriented by the sudden darkness which is broken by freshly lit cigarette in your hand and the taste of it in your mouth. You are supine, with your head on a pillow, nude, slick with sweat, hot and sore from exertion.

Dawn is laying against you at your side, her normally pale, emotionless face fraught with the pink tinge of afterglow, in the same state as you are, only panting to catch her breath, as are you. No one else is in the room.

The surroundings do not resemble those of your building.

Tan asks you, "Do we bring them out now, or wait until we've settled a bit more? The two of us can probably avoid notice a long time, but an entire family will definitely attract attention.

So, I've decided, upon his own request, to run a game for Kyler. It makes me feel like I can do something back for the Forum, since they are running me in two games already. I can do more then give ideas now, anyway. I'll try to make this my first successful game mastering experience. Without having a rulebook. So I'll be asking mechanics clarifications a lot.

I like to make stories, but we are with two that write this story, so Kyler, what do you want out of this? What kinds of stories do you like?

Also, since you are the main character, I'll need to know a bit about you, relevant to the story. If you could summarize yourself in one paragraph, what would it read like? Mainly in terms of character/drives/attitude. I think your physical description is on your character sheet, right?

I know you have a recent character sheet floating around on the forums somewhere. If you know where, can you link me up here?

This said, I'm going to stretch the first death-scene and make it interactive. I've set some things that need to happen, but this will give us time to work things out character wise, so that I can decide where you should end up and what will happen there.

**********

It's your birthday and you get a present from your parents. You unwrap it. It's a brand new iPad. "It's a new experimental version.", your father tells you with a smile and a twinkle in his eye. "It just came out, and I know someone who knows someone, so I was able to get one before they were sold out."

It has WIFI, the box says. There are other symbols on it.

(I'm not sure whether you are an Apple fan or the opposite. If not, treat it as a counter version Microsoft made or something.)

You get home for the night after work, and find a package on your doorstep/in front of your house. It doesn't seem to resemble anything that you've ordered recently, but, seeing your name on the shipping label, you pick up the damp box and carry it into your house. You manage to get settled in, open the box, and find a nifty, brand spanking new laptop wrapped in plastic. The instructions, however, were not in the plastic and seem slightly water damaged; impressive technical specs and some new part you've never heard of, billed as a scriff management system. "Scriff Technologies" is the name of the company, and apparently they're of Japanese origin. As you remove the item from the plastic, you are dismayed to see that it has been either damaged in shipping or packaged with some strange gold-colored liquid. It isn't sticky, but you find that it doesn't seem to be water soluble and seems to stick to itself. After you finally get the computer cleaned off, you plug it in, sit down with it, power it on, and are pleased to see that everything seems to be in working order. Unfortunately, the instant you attempt to use the keyboard, you receive the nastiest electrical shock you have ever recieved in your life. You don't even feel yourself hit the ground.////You feel yourself coming to. You are laying on your side, crumpled in an unceremonious heap on the ground, which feels hard and smooth, like polished metal, stone, or plastic. The temperature is slightly warm, between 77 and 83. You can tell there are lights on, you hear the faint hum of a computer system running somewhere nearby, and this place smells hospital sterile.////Your head is throbbing with pain, and you feel very groggy, as if you had slept for several days; your mouth does not taste as if you have been unconscious for very long, however, and you do not feel particulrly more hungry or thirsty than before you experienced that nasty jolt.

The telepathic link is just fading, and you get your message through; the answer is that Majdi is open to suggestions.

You land near the group of Bah with whom Majdi is walking; they seem a bit nervous about your presence, but apparently trusting Majdi that you're not there to harm them. Again he repeats his answer that he's open to any ideas you might have on how to contain or control the firebeast without harming it. He says it is headed "that way", which happens to be toward the human settlement, but also indicates that it changes direction and velocity both abruptly and erratically, so you should be ready to run or fly without notice.

I will let Ryan give any relevant details he thinks need repeating, and post to continue.

<i>I can't seem to post to the archived thread, so I'm reposting the last one here before replying.</i>

"Early edition, that! Used to be me mam's, breaks me 'eart to part wit it. I bin askin' 100 pounds fer that one, but it's desp'rate times an' I like yer face. 40 quid an' it's yours! Small price to pay for good lit'rature."
-----

I try to remember how much money I have on me, if any, that's actually in pounds. If I can spend my money here (and again, if I can't, better to find out now), I don't want to blow it all on a single book. "Forty?" I say. "Hmm....well, I don't know." The hesitation is partly to bargain a bit, and partly to give me time to remember how much I actually have. If I have the cash for it, I'll make an offer a bit lower than he's asking, probably 20. Forty pounds seems like an awful lot for a book, especially in 1985. Of course, who knows what to expect when books are being sold by shady people on street corners? I wonder then if perhaps books are illegal on this world. I'm sure I'll find out soon enough, if that's the case.

Hopefully Graeme will find his way to the new forum location. He was in Rome, in Rome Wasn't Built In a Millennium, talking to the zookeepers about his elephant. My last post there reads:

"Well, for one thing, she's smaller than any adult elephant I've seen. Also, the ears are wrong." He walks around her, studying her carefully. "Her tusks are awfully small, her face is deformed by those bumps, the tip of her trunk doesn't look right--and the trunk's not wrinkled properly--and her back is bent the wrong way. Her legs are short and fat, and she's got the wrong number of toenails. Oh, and her color is pretty bad. Is she sick, or is she a mutant or something?"

--M. J. Young

I'm eager to see how he will handle this anomaly.

I was wondering; is there any advantage to using simple telekinesis verses heavy object telekinesis?

For example, I have a 1@10 SAL in Heavy Object TK, but something lower in Simple Object TK. Is there a situation in which I would decide that using Simple Object TK is better than Heavy TK (assuming that Heavy TK is not curved out of the bias)?

Happily, I'm maybe 85%, and my cough is sorta under control without having to mainline Vicks 44D benzocaine throat drops. I didn't laugh when they said 'only once every two hours', and 'don't exceed dose', but that might have been because laughing would have brought on a coughing fit of several minutes.

Anyways, in my current RPOL game, one of the villains is Devlin Smith, the Verser Vampire. Obviously, to long-term Outposters, he's inspired by Gavin from Philly 2011 as I didn't want to do a straight rip on Gavin.

Devlin Smith aka Maurice Lancaster as he was christened in 1805 in Yorkshire was an unremarkable lad known for pub-drinking and petty clerical work until one night he met a beautiful woman who seemed interested in him. Not questioning his luck, he followed her outside the pub.

"I do so love a good drink of beer." She murmured, and he turned perplexed in his drunken state back to the pub from whence beer came. She ambushed him from behind, bit him, and began to have her supper with a beer.

He might have been just another victim of the cold winter, a poor drunk who lost his way in the alleys, and froze to death, but a cry of a bugle was heard. The Wild Hunt was in the air, and seeking those alone, and no one is more alone than a vampire. Vengefully, she ripped out his throat, and then she took a crossbow quarrel to the chest.

He fell dying. She fled, but not before a fatal drop of blood from her chest hit his open throat.

A question swam in that blood as it penetrated to his dying brain.

*Do you want to live?*
He gasped assent.
*Forever?*
He agreed.
*Then swear eternal fealty to the Six Beasts Who Sit in Shadow and Gnaw at the Roots of Heaven. Swear that they alone are your master, and none other shall stand before your imperial will.*

He paused, dimly realizing that Sunday School did not equate with this. But he had found the notions of sin to be silly, anyways.

"I swear." He spoke from his newly healed throat, and then he rose as his new patrons cloaked him from the Wild Hunt which clattered by.

A new clarity of purpose filled him. He could do as he wished without constraint. He would give the freedom of mind and soul that he now felt to everyone who labored under the dark superstitions of the Protestants, the Catholics, and the Baptists. And to the chosen few, he might give the gift of true power. And for himself, he would make himself unassailable. And somewhere in a twisted and barren section of the oververse, maniac giggling greeted his grand plans, but he could not hear it.

And so he ruled in the north of England for well over a century until one time he met a man who sought for him, laughed at his threats, evaded his traps, and finally met him atop a manor with a sword that was impossible. The redheaded, almost child, with the crystal cold blue eyes evaded his strikes, and swung a sword made of light.

"I am immortal." Devlin cried (for he had changed his name on that snowy night of doom).
"So am I, and I didn't have to sell my soul and the sun for it."

The blade chopped his wrists off, and Devlin stared in horror as the blade came at his heart. He lunged forward in insane fury, and bit the man, Captain Chris. And he died.

And woke in another world. Under the sun.

He died again, and again. He thought he was in Hell.

He woke in night, and was safe. He lived, but it was the year 2290. And no vampires walked the night. His powers were faded. But he could feed, and he found in his extensive researches in the 'Internet' a reference to the 'Verse Project'. And then he began to understand what had happened to him.

Unfortunately, the trail of bodies of the most infamous serial killer of the 22nd century was being followed by advanced science. And when he refused to surrender, they fired their UV laser blasters at him.

It was over very quickly.

Three more worlds (or eleven if you count the ones where he arrived, and was shortly burnt by the sun, or in one case by a giant, four-footed Magical Sentinel Beast made of square-dressed stone that breathed sunlight and guarded the passageways between worlds), and he has started to get the hang of things.

Unfortunately, in his last world he met a Hawaaian shaman who figured out his true nature, and could not figure out a way to permanently kill him. But the shaman did curse him before summoning a volcano's fire to burn him. The curse was that he only could wear a tanktop and Hawaian shorts.

This bothers Devlin as he really is a suit and tie kind of guy.

And now he's ready to arrive in your world, and make a complacent verser unhappy.

Persuasion 2@1
Charisma 1@8
Animal Magnetism 1@7
Willpower 1@9

Target Value 1@7
Damage Value 1@10
Ranged Strike Value 1@8
Martial Strike Value 2@1

Damage Rider: If a Fire or Sunlight attack hurts him, it automatically adds a non-blocked Lethal damage rider as the fire burns unnaturally in his corrupt flesh. I'm not quite sure how to do this in Multiverser. In Champions, it would be a Vulnerability probably. Always on, Does 2d6 Killing Damage or something like that. I'm also not sure if this works in a low magic world...could he walk in the sun in a flatlined magic world?

Cursed: Must wear Hawaian shorts and tanktop at all times. May not cover them. Failure causes Difficult Stamina checks. Failure to pass stamina checks causes painful convulsions that increase in severity until the clothes are put on, or the Vampire breaks something vital in his convulsions. This curse may not hold in a low-magic world, but the shaman who cast it (anyone got a good Hawaaian name?) was very powerful, clever, and quite angry at Devlin. The curse retakes effect once he passes into a magical world. However, Devlin is not aware that he would be safe in a non-magic world from the curse.

Skills:
1. Heal Self with Excess Blood: Body
2. Move Superfast by Expending Blood:1@7. Body
3. Drink Up: 2@1. Body. Bite does Annoying Damage. Each turn he does Dangerous Damage until victim is dead. Victim is held, and physical escape is at a -10 DR due to difficult position.
4. Paralyze Victim with Sedative in Fangs:2@1. Body. Victim must make Difficult Willpower check to resist. This skill may be used as a rider for #3. Occasionally Devlin doesn't as he likes to hear them scream.
5. Immunity to own Sedative.: 2@5. Body. His body is immune to his own sedative.
6. Dominate Will by Eye Contact: 1@9. Magic
7. Animate Corpse: 2@7. Magic. This applies to his own self, or to raising other vampires. It requires the near complete draining of the new vampire, their mental assent to the Six's plans, and a drop of his blood. For himself, it requires that he hunt daily, and sacrifice one to the Six, and that he renew his pledge daily.
8. Shoot .38 Revolver: 2@7. Tech. He is an extraordinary shot who trained in one world with Capone's gangs as a gunman.
9. Use Gold Knobbed Cain as Club: 1@8. Tech.

Items:

1. Tank top.
2. Hawaiian Shorts.
3. A metal flask with liquid nitrogen cooling that contains an emergency supply of concentrated essence of blood that is enough to refill him. However, he cannot make more.
4. A leather bag of 8 gold marks, 4 silver dinarii, and a few -3- diamonds of one carrot size.
5. A .38 revolver, and thrirty rounds of hardball ammunition (six are in the gun, and the others are tied into the waistband of his shorts. Damaging: Repeat Factor 3: 3'/10'/20'/40'/60'.
6. No shoes.
7. A walking stick with a gold knob on the end. Damaging: No range: RF 2 (Annoying if the knob end is not used.)

Its not entirely done, but close...

This is the initial game thread for Robert Marsh. Character generation took place offline (following the steps outlined in the first four posts of The Character Generation Thread), and play began live.

During his vacation at the beach this summer, accidental damage to his cousin's newfangled GPS led to Robert receiving a nasty shock and blacking out. He awoke at night, flat on his back on a plain of orange grass smelling of tangerines (and perhaps celery), looking up at an octagonal full moon. To his right was the odd skyline of a distant, lightless city; to his left, a small box-like object; ahead, strange silhouettes suggesting a massive industrial complex, complete with occasional motion and periodic flashes of light. Scattered around him were random items he'd taken with him to the beach house, and he had an oddly-directional feeling that he'd left something else somewhere, over "that way," behind and to his right.

Gathering his things, he headed left towards the boxy object. On his way, he observed several odd creatures: small herds of grazing, eyed Nerf balls, green clams the size of Volkswagons, a short rootless vine which tried to strangle him (but which he eventually shed and escaped). After seeming hours of travel, he slept.

Awakening at dawn, he found that the bush-like things made from black coral he had observed previously were now no longer static, but rather moved erratically across the plain. Continuing his journey, he discovered the hard way that they became hostile if he approached too closely, acquiring two holes in his clothing and a nasty third-degree burn on his right hand in the process.

After a harrowing evasive trek, he finally arrived at his destination - an abandoned mobile home. Finding the bathroom window unlocked, he made his way inside. So far discoveries include:

two cans beans,
one package twinkies,
the keys (engine won't start),
a roadmap for Nebraska,
a radio with apparently still-functioning batteries

On this last, he has been able to get reception on several channels. So far, all have been speech (not music) in very foreign tongues. The voices are quite strange; there appear to be two kinds of voices and at least two languages, with each voice-language pairing so far segregated onto its own set of channels.
__

Robert, I believe we left you sitting in the drivers seat, turning the keys uselessly. Unless you have information to add to the summary or questions about something that I left out or that needs clarifying, we can pick up with your actions from there.

For several reasons, this "spell" will take several posts to hash out, not least of which is my unwillingness to write the whole thing down at one time. I've made this thread so we can hash it out in peace without unduly cluttering or bumping my own game thread, and also as a potential home for other complex rituals I may cook up in the future.

This ritual is concerned with the creation of a Discordian holy-symbol, something that will proclaim the power of Eris to any and all who see it - or else just confuse them, which amounts to the same thing. As near as I can tell, no one has ever done this before. There are plenty of symbols and signs associated with the Faith, of course, but no one as taken to blessing one of them and wearing it around his neck. Since I'm breaking new ground - and because V-me has very little else that's interesting to do with his time - the whole thing is going to be as long, as involved, and as complicated as he can make it. It will be absolutely riddled with symbolism and bogus numerology.

Riddled, I say.

In any case, the core of the finished symbol will be five wingnuts, which will undergo various transmutations and so forth over the course of the ritual; by the end, each wingnut will supposedly contain the summoned essence of one of the five elements (Sweet, Boom, Pungent, Prickle, and Orange). The whole thing will take twenty-three days and will happen in five phases. Twenty-three is a number of power (2+3=5), and the five phases mirror the five seasons of the Discordian year (Chaos, Discord, Confusion, Bureaucracy and Aftermath). The first day of the ritual must be a Setting Orange (the fifth day of the five-day Discordian week), so that each subsequent day falls on the most auspicious day of the week for its particular piece of the performance.

The phases follow:

1) Declaration of Intent. One day. The Pope declares his intention before Eris of creating a tangible symbol of Confusion in general and Eris in particular. Activities include personal purification, disambiguation of the Pope from a cabbage or something, ranting, getting Eris's attention in the first place, and preparations for later rituals.

2) Invocation of the Elements. Five days (one per wingnut). The Pope imbues each wingnut in turn with the essence of a different element, giving each the life, vitality, and individual identity necessary for the later steps. Activities include personal purification, preparation of the ritual space, calling upon the elements, transmutation of the wingnut(s), and sequestering each finished wingnut in a special container (in which it will remain, in meditation, for one week).

3) Emergence, Introductions and Attuning. Five days. As the wingnuts complete their five-day periods of meditation (staggered, of course, one wingnut per day), the Pope introduces them each to himself and to each other, taking time to get to know them and for everyone to become comfortable with everyone else. Activities include naming each wingnut, group games, social mealtimes, one-on-one interaction with each wingnut, and bedtime stories.

4) Binding and Formal Affirmations. Eleven days (one day ritual, ten days affirmation). The Pope performs a ritual of unification, binding the five wingnuts together and formalizing their connection to himself. He then makes this Official by filling out and filing an ever-escalating series of forms. Activities include complex transmutations, convoluted symbolic reasoning, tedious hand-copying, repetitive compulsory song, and overuse of paper clips.

5) Dissolution and Emancipation, or, "Screw You Guys." One day. The Pope gets thoroughly sick of forms, the wingnuts, and unity in general. He breaks apart the wingnuts' bindings, discards said wingnuts, and seeks wisdom in solitude. The Holy Symbol is completed when he returns to the wingnuts and once again collects them - this time without all that silly business about eternal, inseparable bonds. Activities include mistreatment of official forms, breaking things, sulking, eating hot dog buns, and awkwardly making up.

That's the overview. I think I'll hit each section in detail in separate posts. In terms of mechanics, I'm interested in defining this thing's time factor. I haven't gone through and made an account of how long I spend each day on actual ritual, but I imagine it will average somewhere between one and three hours per day (23 to 69 hours total). As a player, I'm hoping I get full credit for the twenty-three days, but as a referee, I'm hoping to get some insight into adjudicating this kind of situation.

"I see." He pauses. "My cousin, a preacher, told me I should talk to you. I'm the chief of police here. My duty is to maintain order. Now granted, I am not fond of the Hunt. And ordinarily I would not have become police chief except I expect the Status Board is becoming worried about people like you, and is therefore giving a higher priority to competence over Status, but still, my job is maintain order. In other words, one could say, I should arrest you. Since I'm confident you have backup if you're half as elite as you claim to be, and its probably armed with military weapons while my backup has a ten millimeter pistol, I won't try and embarrass myself."

He breathes in and out gustily.

"Do you see what I'm saying?"

Me:

"I see your point, so let me answer with a question. You serve the law, but what and who does the law serve? My answer would be justice. And I came here hoping yours would be the same answer...

I know that your intelligent and an experienced officer with instincts to read a situation, so I 'm guessing that you've already guessed yourself that there will come a day when the regime orders to do something that does not simply entail keeping order. On that day you will either choose to do what they say and have to live with it the rest of your life, or you will disobey that order and become a 'criminal' yourself.

What type of regime makes decent men into criminals?" I open the fanny pack and pull out a sheaf of papers. "Here's a list of people who have been arrested with in this city for crimes they didn't commit, some of them under the previous chief, and a number of whom have been executed without trials. Here's a list of people who have been victims of the Hunt with in the previous five years. If you'll notice, the suicide rate is markedly higher than the average. And here is part of the dossier the regime keeps on you." I hand him the last three pages. "The faithfulness with which you've executed your office and your accomplishments, such as stopping those terrorists in Kansas, has kept you out of the 'politically unreliable' category and a prison cell, but just barely. That is the reality of the system and that's the system we're trying to change. We aren't terrorists, the regime is."

It seemed to me good to start a new thread; after all, the old one was getting pretty long. Anyone who needs to reference it can find it as Behind the Screens Continues, and can get to the last game-related post here.

Happy New Year; John 4, Max, John 2, and Adam are the guests at today's party.

John 4 adds 12 pairs of drum sticks to his equipment. I, knowing his penchant for percussion, am allowing it without a roll, as I cannot really imagine him going anywhere without them. I'm surprised they weren't in the back pocket of his pajamas. He also looks for his dog, who is on his equipment list, and she will be sleeping beside him.

Max is making some solid preparations for his upcoming meeting. We'll fill in a few blanks on that.

John 2 has inspired a new thread on holy magic botches, and is now praying. On examination, I conclude that the prayer is a M2@4 Cure Disease, capable of curing multiple diseases. There is a baseline of ten minutes, and he has specified "a few minutes", which I usually take as a number between three and seven, so I'll call it 5:00, and take -10 from the chance of success. I'm also not happy that he's curing multiple diseases, but I'll only take -5 for that. He gets +5 for appropriateness, +2 for sound necessary, +15 for total physical involvement, and I believe I gave him a bonus for limiting a prayer to his room previously, +10 for that. This makes the skill's inherent sit-mod -10-5+5+2+15+10=+17, and he has the +10 alliance bonus and his own +9 for religion, a 1@4 mag bias, and a 2@2 BRA. That means +17+10+9+22-24=34% chance of success. The roll is 11, which is a decent success. To consolidate, the description is 1@1 Cure Diseases M+2@4 retire to personal room or quarters, kneel with total body involvement, pray with appropriate words for healing of specified ailments, sound necessary, 5:00TF, +17SM.

Adam is getting oriented to the new surroundings. This will be fascinating.

In Multiverser, where do Gods get their power from? It seems logical that some Gods are less powerful than others, and often in fiction we hear of divine wars where one side wins and one side loses. So then, is it the belief of the followers that gives power? Is it the, odd as it is, age of the god? or the time the god has had to perfect its arts? Or is it arbitrary?

That leads me to my second question. Is belief in a god enough to have that god exist (in Multiverser mind) and be able to perform holy magic? Could I, in theory, make up a god and follow and belief, and then be able to perform holy magics with the help of this deity?

I think these question arise more out of an ignorance of holy magic mechanics than they do from pure curiosity.

WilliamTWodium on "Magic manipulating magic"

I'm in search of game balance advice. In the description for M4@8 Manipulate Magic, it says that if the spell targets magic and there is still a magical effect after the spell succeeds, it's a skill under that heading. It gives suggested baselines for an array of uses, but it doesn't address a spell whose purpose is merely to extend the duration of another effect already in progress. Ordinarily, I'd just eyeball it, but this struck me as something with some serious potential for imbalace. (Let's see, I'll take a +20 sit-mod on the three-hour climate control for cutting the duration down to 7:30:00, then I'll cast my guaranteed-success three-minute Extend Duration spell - that's +40 for the time factor - and I'll do that five times for +RS% to the duration each time . . .)

So, I guess I'm looking for opinions in three areas:

1) What should the baseline time factor be? Most M4@8 Manipulate Magic skills run about twelve seconds, but I think this one's atypical. The standard one-to-ten TF-to-duration rule of thumb isn't much help here either.

2) How should the length of the extension be determined - based on the TF of the target skill, based on the TF of the extension skill, or fixed somehow and thus relative to neither?

3) How narrowly, at baseline, should such skills be defined? This could range from, at one extreme, a single Extend Duration skill for any in-place magical effect to, at the other, a separate skill for each specific spell the caster would like to be able to extend. What should be the standard, and what should be craziness calling for ad-hod adjustments to the other baseline values?

This thread continues Paul's game from the archived thread Fifteen Minutes. I'm reprinting his last post here.

I would like to spend a little bit of time each day exploring the uses and functions of my pocter. I ask around and try to find access to a piano. If I find one, I attept to look up online lessons for Jazz theory, and chord theory on my pocter. If there is a music class offered at the academy, I ask the teacher friendliest to me how I would go about being transferred into it, or adding it to my schedule somehow.

I don't spend as much time as I should studying. However, I do spend a considerable time studying, because the work is so challenging. I try to get at least 6 hours of sleep a night, but knowing me, I probably only succeed about every other night.

I contact General Hu sometime, and ask about how long my school year is. (He mentioned earlier that it was decided by the parent or guardian of each student.)

We'll assume that you're poking around on the pocter each day, and anytime you want to attempt something in particular we'll make a skill roll (sit-modded, of course).

Regarding the piano: among whom are you "asking around," what sort of piano are you looking for, and where might you expect one to be? Are you doing this in the afternoon today, or are you waiting until tomorrow?

I only vaguely recall Hu's comment; I imagine it had something to do with how many semesters per year a student choses to enroll. School is held year-round; vacations are taken by neglecting to sign up for classes. The current semester ends in mid-December, if that's what you're asking.

What do people do for fun around here?

How do you intend to go about finding out?

This is the initial game thread for Graham Horton (not to be confused with his nephew Graham Bryden, currently in play at Through Hell and Bah'k). Character generation took place offline following the steps outlined in the first four posts of The Character Generation Thread; I can post the sheet upon spectator request, but the most recent copies will be on referee and player hard drives.

Graham, on your nephews' recent visit (during which Multiverser was never mentioned, because it does not exist; for any memories involving it, substitute Champions), little Graham brought with him an especially new-fangled PS2 peripheral. However, it must have suffered some damage during transit -- otherwise, it would never have broken in your hands in the middle of Guitar Hero, no matter how vigorous your solo. Inspecting the damage, you notice a golden mercury-like liquid leaking out of the device onto your fingers. You receive a short sharp shock and black out.

_____

You're beginning to come to. Even with your eyes closed you can tell you've been moved – you're outside, and the air is chill and damp. You're lying on a slight slope with your feet downhill, and the surface beneath your back is soft and wet. The air smells like grass and dew, and from the way your clothes have soaked through, you've been lying here a while.

There's a slight soreness in your hand, but other than that the pain is gone.

We had just finished summarizing the live-play introduction of James Marsh in the archived thread, Planet of the 'Panzees. I'll reprint my last post here.

Superbly summarized. Mentions have also been made (alliteration aside) that you'll probably want to talk with Old Gunther. At least two individuals have said this independently of each other (once on the road and once in the wagon), apparently when the subject has come around to idea of you traveling with the chimps for a little while. You have not seen or been introduced to Gunter as far as you know.

I've forgotten all the names but one (Tom's), so I'll make them up again now unless you remember them yourself. We'll call the lady chimp who took you from the road into the wagon Rose; she's also the one who did you the favor of changing the subject away from your origin and back to the story that was being told before you arrived. The orangutan's name is Tom, and he apparently managed to track down and capture the ne'er-do-well tinkerer by means a steam-beetle and "Geiger's new device," despite having broken both of his legs in the fall from the balloon and spending the final week of the chase laid up in a hotel. He still received credit for the capture, however, and consequently got a share of the reward money. "And that's how I got this hat, Nathan: reward money."

That's as far as we got. Before I push on, do you have any questions, clarifications, or immediate actions? The attention in the wagon is off of you, for the most part, so unless you get involved in the conversation or otherwise draw attention to yourself you need not interact with your companions if you don't want to. There's no telling how long the ride will be, but it's currently early afternoon. Your bag and blowtorch, as you noted, are with you. The sense that you left something somewhere points generally in the wagon train's direction of travel.

I know next to nothing about electrical and electronic technology, and when I try to read over the skill descriptions for Tech levels nine and ten I find myself crossing my eyes to make the words form interesting designs. I can understand what each skill is, while I'm looking at it, but I absolutely fail at trying to extrapolate from what it is to what can be done with it.

Is there any way, aside from biting the bullet and doing the research, that I can tell with reasonable expedience which electrical applications and devices are possible under a bias of, say, T9@4 and which are not?

WilliamTWodium on "A few questions"

These miscellaneous questions are mostly for MJ, having to do with a game I will presently run. If Paul or Graham read this thread, I trust they will keep certain details and implications firmly in the realm of player (rather than character) knowledge. The first two questions have to due with Bah Ke'Gehn, the second two with certain magical skills.

First, what do the Bah do for water? Having studied the setting, it seems to me that all the water in the diet of all Bah beyond the Bah Dzen has its ultimate source in the fur of the worms (who in turn synthesized it directly from the magical energies of the grass) - which suggests succulent fur, indeed. Alternatively, the Bah have no need of water, which would suggest a very strange biology and raise questions about the necessity of the yellow liquid the Tingaladek produce. The answer to this seems like it would impact description of the worms and their fur.

Second, what units of time do the Bah possess, and how might they be measured? I recall having the scholar Graham met mention measuring time in generations, but it seems reasonable that they might also break generations into smaller chunks, perhaps based on the durations of various parts of the life cycle. Then, too, the Tolo Bran sleep in shifts, so it seems likely they have concepts for units of time on a more immediate level as well - something between a moment and stage of life. Has this come up before, perhaps in games subsequent to publication? (Is it in the book in a section I've forgotten to re-read?)

Third, magics which prevent healing are rarely available to fantasy players (despite their frequent occurrence as plot devices), but justly feared, and I find it likely that the baddies of Bah Ke'Gehn would favor them. However, I'm not sure where to place them in the bias grid. Are they subversions of M5@9 Shields Against Magic? Or would it be more appropriate to invent an entry in the M13@ Necromantics to cover them?

Fourth, suppose a magical item has several functions which, if they were found in separate devices, would be of several disparate biases - one M1@2 Always, two M1@3 When Worn/Held (one when worn, one when held), one M1@5 On Condition, and perhaps others. How many skills does the device require to use, and how should the skill or skills be classed?

Ed Carroll has reappeared, so his game, in which Eric Ashley's character Tadeusz is making a guest appearance, is being revived here. He last posted in John II Is Not At Home, in which my last post reads:

I will mention for your attention that while you are in astral travel you are disconnected from your own body, so you are unaware of events surrounding it. You can counter this by setting up a remote clairsentience or sensory access port from your body to yourself, or if you're not worried about the body you can use a telepathic link to Ed to keep you in touch with things at his end. Those are all rather low concentration skills, so they won't seriously drain your ability, although they do open you to shock should something happen at the other end.

Ed, it appears that you have your bombs.

If you follow the link back to the old boards, you can trace back through the thread to see what led to this position; I'll probably wind up looking back over those things as well, and your reminders of points I overlook are welcome.

This is the first game post for Andrew James Pessarchick, whose character information is in The Character Generation Thread.

One of your buddies caught up with you and gave you a gadget he said you should try. It looks like some sort of USB plug-in drive, but he says it's faster than anything he's ever seen--something about "Scriff Inside" technology. You take it home and try it, and the thing is incredibly fast.

However, when you try to remove it from the port, you slip, and the drive breaks. There is a flash, and a surprisingly severe shock. The next thing you know, you are regaining consciousness, which is how you know you blacked out.

You are lying on your back with your eyes closed. You are immediately aware that you cannot possibly be where you were--there is bright, warm light shining on you, the sound of surf, and the surface beneath you is slightly sloped down toward your feet, somewhat conformed to the contours of your back, and almost hot.

I've been recalling to attention, one per week, the Game Ideas Unlimited series which ran here weekly for four years beginning in June, 2001, and even though you can now purchase the first six months of the series in printed form I'm going to continue highlighting one article per week.

This week we reach the fifth in the series, Screen Wrap. This article features not one but two distinct references to Dr. Who, one to an early video game, one Multiverser reference, and several tried and proven methods of confusing your players by bouncing their characters around the map in a completely structured and logical manner that will seem to them totally random until they crack the puzzle.

Players in my games should be aware that I use these techniques, when they are appropriate, so it might be worthwhile to bone up on them, as they say.

As always, I look forward to comments on the article here in the forum.

When Scott came over last we didn't really talk about summaries for this world, so I'll write a brief snippet here since I have a three-day weekend and I have some time off.

The first sensation I felt was heat on my the back of my torso and legs. I wake up lying on a sea of fire which spreads farther than I can see. After trying some of my telekinetics and finding that they succeed (though I accomplish nothing of mention with them), I spot a group of demon-like herders, shepherding giant worms covered in fur. I walk towards the group, and they move away. This proceeds for a minute (under the idea that if this is a demonic world of torture, they probably <i>shouldn't</i> be running from me) and eventually I contact them telepathically and ask them why they are fleeing. They start moving faster. I attempt to fly, and succeed, but move at a ridiculously slow pace. Eventually I get close enough walking that I can speak to them. I've noticed a few other lifeforms while walking, and a large red-skinned humanoid with wings flies down and we talk for a while. We discuss, oddly, religion and evolution and I try to convey the idea of humans coming from humans. He asks what I want, and I tell him food. He asks what I eat (mentioning that he himself eats a "My English is not so good... tofu?" like substance) and I try to send him the concept of food and brainburn. We talk more and he brings me food. We talk about where I am to stay, and he talks a bit about the giant pillars that dot the vast, empty landscape. He flies off, and I wait for him to come back at the base of the pillar he lives in. He returns with more tofu-like food and some milk (though Scott is unsure how he got it to me, more on that later) and we talk again. I show him my knife, and he does not know what it is. He told me that if he asked the Overlord, maybe I could stay at his place. That's pretty much where we stopped, if I remember correctly.

He told me about the lifecycle of his species, which Scott can explain if necessary. I have forgotten all the names (there were a lot) and Scott can fill those in.

This thread continues Graham's game from Really Bad Eggs, where we finally caught the summary up to the point where he was shot in the back of the head with a silver bullet; this takes us into Graham's fifth world.

We join our hero atop a small hill buried in deep snow. He's just finished gathering his local belongings, which include the usual contents of his pockets, his glasses, and his spiked helmet. (I've sent the most recent copy of your character sheet. Anything not on it is elsewhere.)

It's cold. You're dressed in your leather boots, wool uniform pants, and brass helmet. Last you saw your shirt and jacket, they were stuffed under a fallen log on a tropical island. Thoughts, actions?

Convention Session report:

I had happily just acquired a new Wii controller, made by a new company I’d never heard of. Sadly it proved to be slipperier than I expected, and I dropped it during some vigorous tennis. It cracked somewhat, and a strange gold-colored metallic substance leaked out. As I picked it up to examine it I felt a strange feeling and blacked out.

Tropical Island:

Once I became aware of my surroundings again things had changed. I was outside, I was in a warm climate, and there was the smell of smoke. I had a strange feeling that I had forgotten something, and that there were people I was late in meeting. The directions to those things and people were apparent to me, as some sort of feeling.

Upon opening my eyes and standing up I found I was high up a slope on some sort of mountain island. Besides this land mass there was nothing in sight. Looking up the mountain I saw a crater with smoke emerging, looking awfully like a volcano that I felt way too close to for comfort. I gathered up my belongings, and began heading rapidly down the slope to the water for a chance at safety. I had the sense that one of the things I forgot, as well as a person or two, lay that direction.

I picked up my superglue (‘What’s that doing in the middle of this tropical island jungle?’) and made it to the first person I find on the island. We decide to head toward the direction where we both feel other people are (‘Why are we getting these aligned, new sensations?’) and stay out of the sun, for we are both pale and out of shape.

After about an hour of travel we come across a rocky outcropping above the surrounding ocean occupied by a man eating something over a fire. He appears to be heavily armed with a variety of weapons, have a jeep (or something like it) not far away, and has one arm apparently made of metal. We approach cautiously, but he seems unconcerned and welcomes us.

Finally we begin to gain some understanding of what is going on and where we are. The man, Michael di Vars, tells us that we’ve all acquired some of a strange interuniversal particle called Scriff. Once we’ve got it we move between universes upon death, seemingly at random. Rarely there are multiple people in the same universe who have Scriff, but in this case there seem to be four of us along with Michael. All we can tell about this place is that it’s devoid of human life or any sort of civilization, and that this volcano will probably not last more than a week.

I continue to pepper Michael with questions, while we pick at roast seagull, for the remainder of the afternoon and evening. He instructs some of us on the basic needs of survival (seems like a useful thing to cover if we’ll be separated and in alien surroundings soon): Clean Water, Shelter, Fire, Food/Sustenance, Socks (keeping your feet warm and dry). Michael has traveled to over 7,000 worlds and acquired all manner of skills, gadgets and even body modifications.

We talk more about how this multiversal travel works, what tends to happen, and what’s useful. I ask Michael to teach me some basic psionic skills, but the bias of this world seems to mildly discourage it and I fail to learn (28% chance).

At some point I ask to borrow a machete and decide to explore the island a bit. We bushwack for a while, find some wild bananas, coconuts and other tropical fruits. No sign of any life bigger than birds, and nothing very intelligent. We head back to the camp Michael set up eventually, to rest for the night, having no idea what tomorrow holds.

We’re awoken by the rumbling of the volcano and what looks to be imminent eruption. Michael drives right towards the advancing lava (apparently items damaged during events that cause your death are carried along with you to the next universe unharmed). Lacking the willpower to leap into molten rock I decided to find lower ground and watch the awesome flow for a while. The island begins to implode and sink, and I’m drawn into the resulting land/mud/water slide and crushed to death.

Starship Destiny:

After a period of pain and blackness I start to become more aware of some surroundings beyond piles of earth and water and rock above me. I appear to be lying in some sort of corridor, metallic, and there are sounds coming toward me. I open my eyes and rise to see two figures with some sort of gun-like weapon pointed at me, lifting me up and bringing me somewhere. Luckily my stuff is with me, guess that Michael fellow was right.

I’m brought to the captain of the ship and mildly interrogated. After protesting ignorance for a while they start to believe me, and I can find out a bit about where I am. It is sometime in the 25th Century, and we are aboard the Starship Destiny. Earth has evolved into an interplanetary empire, the Federation of Planets, and their rule is based on Earth but extends quite far. Over time the Federation has become more draconian and domineering, and John Alexander, the Destiny’s captain, decided to leave them and join the rebellion.

He and Phil Banson managed to get this ship, found adrift and abandoned. It appears to be some sort of advanced alien technology and capable of matter transmission, among other things. They and the crew work with the rebels, leveraging their substantial abilities to help planets who do not want to join the Federation. Often those planets are threatened with destruction if they refuse, and the Rebels and the Destiny are there to keep them safe and provide an alternative.

I meet the rest of the crew, and start talking more with them. I’m especially interested in Marilyn, the diplomat of the ship. She is attractive, unattached, skilled at negotiations and friendly. I spend a good bit of time with George White, the resident jack-of-all-trades, and he shows me how to use the medical technology on board. I also help Burt Bently with some duct repairs.

Over the course of the next weeks I try to get to know the crew better, befriend those who are receptive, learn as much as I can, and find out how I can be useful. I also start to explore the capabilities of the ship, its computer Torbin, and the technology aboard. I try to carve out a niche or two, and prepare myself for whatever I might need to do in helping the Rebellion, whether cooking fresh food or firing kinetic blasters.

-----

When we last left our hero, I was studying with anyone who would teach him aboard the Starship Destiny. I had spent considerable time with Marilyn, Burly, John and Phil (I believe).

I was just beginning to train with the kinetic blaster. I'm not sure exaclty how to do that, but I'm very curious about the armaments of the current situation, so I'd like to become competent in them.

I'd also like to keep advancing the depth of my relationships with the receptive members of the crew, particularly those mentioned above. Eventually I hope to be accepted and trusted enough to ask whether we will be taking any direct action anytime soon.

Are we better at communicating at a distance and doing negotiation over those channels? If so, can I assist?

Are we waiting for an emergency or a specific thing to happen before we fly into action?

Is there anything I can do to gather more data on wha the Federation is doing, since I'm not a known member of the rebellion?

This could be a magic limitation (I'm not using it as such in this world.)

The question is this: What about Shadowrun or some other place where Magic Bloomed?

Well, the idea is that an archmage can make a powerful enough spell to either bind the bias levels, or a step down dispel all magic above a certain level for the next thousand years. The second probably works better.

But such Seals of Creation are vulnerable to very few things. The erosion of time and faith may bend them or wear them away. But frequently, they can last for thousands of years.

Sometimes tho',they become increasingly brittle.

There are of course Unwinding Spells which tend to be enormously complicated, and quite powerful in their own right.

And there is certain trigger events, some of which might not be foreseen.

And last, but not least, there is simply a huge wash of magic might batter them down. Something like a Planetary Full Heal, for example.

So, if Tad and Ed were on such a planet, the result of the spell could be A)Everyone and everything is healed. Praise the Creator! B)Hungry dragons rising with the dawn sun to hunt as the true bias of 15@10 is reasserted from behind the facade.

I am going to begin by expressing my gratitude to Aaron, Jacob, and Dutch for recognizing our need to have our own official forum, and providing this so promptly.

I've a lot of work to do, as I need to identify which game threads should be considered active, and get those restarted on this forum. In fairness, I am going to begin by relaunching those games which had posts on the old forum before it closed, oldest to newest, and then work backwards through those threads which have been inactive since then, newest to oldest. If your game thread is not here, please feel free to restart your game from wherever it ended. I mean no slight and am not unilaterally terminating anyone's game; it might be that I thought you had dropped out of play, or it might be that I missed your thread when I was looking back. In either case, you are welcome to post again here.

For those who need to find their old threads, the archives of the Multiverser forum are at http://discussions.gamingoutpost.com/index.php?showforum=83 and should be openly accessible to anyone. You cannot post, but if you log in to your old account the unread posts markers are fixed to your last visit (and will not, apparently, update for your new visit). The old Behind the Screens at a March Pace thread is here, and I will include links (if I remember to do so) in each new thread to connect to the archives of their previous play.

I'm guessing on the coding to be used here; it appears that HTML is accepted, but I suspect that not all of it will be accepted, so we'll see what does and does not work as we go along and hope that the edit button actually does work on the new system.

Answering the few questions asked on that thread before it closed:

Yes, John, it is because of the e-mail. Long ago I did everything every day, and it took forever to get through it all. I noticed that when I was involved in any discussion every day (be it by e-mail or by forum) I wrote a lot more in that discussion and put a lot more time into it. With e-mail, if I put an answer off a day or two, it slowed down the conversation and took less of my time; with forums, time away meant someone else would often answer a question adequately before I returned. Thus I sequestered the major forums in which I participated (but not the official forum site) into one day per week, arranged on alternate days, and put the e-mail between. However, as it happened I always did the e-mail first, then came here, then went to the other forums, so when I sliced down the workload I still did e-mail before Gaming Outpost and other forums after, which meant that on e-mail days Gaming Outpost was at the end of the day and on forum days it was at the beginning.

Scott, I look forward to your next post.

Shawn, I have not heard from Graeme since his last post here; however, he sometimes gets called away abruptly on business and does not have Internet access or time for extended stretches. Oddly, he's an engineer without Internet access at home, so he only posts when he's got time elsewhere. I'm not yet worried about him.

That should be sufficient for that. Donna will be first, then Adam, then Shawn, and then I'll work backwards through the other players.

Donna continues from here. She needs a difficult persuasion check because she wants these children of the Englightenment to believe that she is a person of some supernatural power, but she does have the explosions in her favor so I'll bonus the effort by +3 on her effective persuasion, 1@9. The roll is 28, so it's not happening.

For the record, it appears that I can use blockquote as well as href link codes, and there is a note saying that ol and ul lists work as well as basic em, amd strong formatting codes, if I remembered it right.

Adam was last posted here. I'm copying the last post and responding to move things forward.

Shawn last posted here. There is a 16 GE roll on whether the Duke of Kent will come to Zenda (and since I don't know which Shawn would prefer, that makes it easy for me), so we'll go with yes and no.

That means it's time to launch threads for other people based on last posts. I will list them here and link them to their archived posts, as well as launch the new threads.

Ryan from The Kid is Bah Ke'gehn.

Scott was posting in Scott Free or Not, a rather dark high psionics world in which he has just shown his hostess, a waitress named Alice who aspires to be a writer, a copy of the famed graphic novel The Watchmen.

Kyler was last playing in Kyler in a New City.

Graeme has been absent for a while, but last posted in Rome Wasn't Built In a Millennium.

Anyone who is being run by another referee should arrange with that person for how to resume play here; if there are problems, drop me a note at mjyoung@mjyoung.net. Anyone else has been absent for more than a month, and should post here to renew their game play if they are still with us. I'll post my own game for Graeme to resume when he returns.
