Huh--I'm sure I remembered posting a link to the thread named Edgar, and commenting about how I was going to call it something else but was too tired to think of what so I wrote that much of the title and then wrote the thread and forgot to add something to the title.

Anyway, that's where play begins.

Edgar, if that's your equipment list, then it seems that you must have been sitting naked at your computer. You did not give me the clothes you are wearing.

Let's take a step back. The rules say you start with everything you are currently wearing, and I expect you to list it in detail. You don't have to give me all the detail, but any detail you omit you cannot later claim--e.g., if you want a piece of plastic and your sheet says you have a credit card, you've got the credit card. If someone asks to see your "visa" when you're entering a country and you want to pull out the credit card that says "Visa" and try to pass it off as a visa, it has to say that you have a Visa.

Once you've covered everything you are currently wearing, you add up to two hundred pounds, within the rules given at the beginning of this thread. I can repeat them in necessary, but the short version is it all has to be your own stuff not connected to anything.

--M. J. Young

Good to have you, Edgar. I'm particularly pleased to see Katerina, who for those who haven't made the Campbell connection is Ahmetia's sister. Kat, on the forum I identify players in their game threads by their full given name--Katerina, in your case--largely to avoid a situation in which someone attempts to foist upon me an inappropriate nickname. But I'm launching your game thread Katerina's Story So Far, and hope you'll give us some background there of what happened to get you that far.

Edgar, I'm good with Brock's assessment that you have a 2@1 Intuition. The question was raised but I didn't see whether you answered whether you have yet received a GED, which would mean that you finished the equivalent of high school. It's unusual for someone to feel that they have no professional skills and no other skills in the categories I ask, but it happens.

Everyone wants you to talk with me about your fighting technique. Do you feel that you've developed something akin to a fighting style that enhances your ability to fight? If so tell me about it.

If not, then give me your equipment list.

I would think MJ would want to run him personally, yeah. I am sure MJ and him can discuss the Martial arts stuff; I know Edgar wins more often than not, and he fights dirty (seriously, seriously dirty.

For Ed Level 1@9 is some High School and 1@10 is completed High School or some equivalent. If you have a GED or some other equivalent you would have 1@10 Ed level otherwise it would be 1@9.

Name: Edgar Michael Causey III, A.K.A. hey you! (said by Brock with a smile), dumb*** (said by Brock without a smile...OK sometimes with one)

Intuition: Pretty high. I remember a fight, in seventh grade, in the changing room, I was surprised attacked and I dodged at the last possible moment, which tripped him. These kinds of things don't happen all that often, but I stay out of trouble. I notice things a lot more than everyone else. Brock says he thinks I would be 1@10 or maybe even 2@1.

Education: I finished Tenth Grade. I dropped out of High School.

Weaknesses: Bad vision (I have glasses), overweight

5"6, 265 lbs, messy brown hair, 21 but look like I am 25-ish, brown eyes, scruffy as a dog, tattoo of a star on my right inside forearm, caucasian.

Section 2: I have no notable skills in the categories described.

It appears I have gotten my friend Edgar interested enough in MV that he will be joining GO in short order. He also says he wants to buy the book and have me run him soon, too. Anyway, the point is, this is both a heads up and a thread-bump so he can find it easier.

My car is in the driveway in front of my mothers house and my room is in the basement. Did the portable AI go with me? it would great if I could talk to it and find out about how it works

I'm wearing the white t-shirt,the olive drab pants,a pair of boxer-briefs, a pair of socks, the pair of boots and the belt.

I forgot to list my glasses. the only time I take my glasses off is when I spar and when I sleep

John II, I would be ok if my alter ego lost, because your alter ego has put an equal amount of effort to learn boxing.

Ya know, I just thought of something. My character has 2@1 boxing. I don't. Eli really has the martial arts talent. If my character fought his character, and my character won, I'd kind of feel bad about that. To say the least, I'd understand if Eli was upset about it. I just thought that was kind of interesting.

O.K., the only question I have is, where is your car relative to your room? That is, is this your room in your home and your car is in the garage or drive out front (and is that downstairs), or the room in your dorm and the car is half a mile away in the college student parking lot, or what?

Also, you did not specify what things you were wearing at present, and I see no jewelry, watch, or other "typical" worn objects, which you should include if there are any.

Stupid question, instead of categorizing each skill, why not just give a skill in basic martial arts? Unless there's a particular move or two that you really like and want to have specialized or something. Or is that what you're doing? I'm just trying to better understand how this works.

I think I get it on the running. What do you think of:

1@5 Aggressive Running Frontal Power Boost B3@10 uses one attack RS=+DC to next forward kick-based attack (Power Front Kick), on failure fall for damaging damage
1@5 Aggressive Running Side Slide B3@10 uses one attack +RS=SM to next side-arc kick-based attack (Side Kick, Flip Kick)

The front attack will give you damage category bonuses if both it and the kick are successful, but will hurt if you fail the running roll and cost you the kick.

1@2 Gather Chi P5@0 success allows (second if first is included) will power check against pain or other physical weakeners, 1:00 TF

Elbow Strike: this is an attack to the front.

Hook Kick: I classified this as a basic attack

Roundhouse Kick: ...I forgot to write this up.
(-10 SM sounds right)

Aggressive Running(run into Power Front Kick) It can only used on someone in the front arc. You're basically running up to someone and kicking them with more power. It doesn't help with the accuracy.

Aggressive Running(slide into Side or Flip Kick) It can only used on someone in the side arc. It can work with the Side Kick or the Flip Kick. You're basically sliding into a Side Kick or a Flip Kick to give it more accuracy and power

gather chi: It negates some of the penalties associated with pain and other unpleasant sensations. It takes a minute or two to activate.

zen state: It provides a small bonus(+5 or +10) to mental skills by focusing the mind. It takes 5 or 10 minutes to activate.

1@5 Elbow Strike B7@3 base damaging attack at close range RF1 -10SM
Is this an attack on someone behind?

I noticed that you listed separate Aggressive Running skills for the Power Front Kick and the Side and Flip kicks, but that there is no difference made in the descriptions. Are they different skills, and if so how do they differ?

Nothing was said in your post about what in the other thread were called the "Roundhouse Kick" and the "Hook Kick"; are these being covered under different names in the present listing?

This doesn’t seem to do must besides producing a very pleasant sensation or psyche me up so that I can break boards easier.

I won't ask the stupid question (why should we list it) but try to ask the question that really matters: if we are listing it, how do we categorize what it does? I would ask the same question about the Zen state skill. You appear to have the skill to put yourself into something like a Zen state, but what does that really mean you've done to yourself, and how do you benefit from that?

The question is not intended to challenge the validity of the experiences, but to grasp the nature of the skill. That is, these would appear to be psionic skills (using your inner power to accomplish something--although arguably the first might be a magic skill, drawing supernatural power from beyond yourself to perform a task), but skills are primarily task-oriented, and are categorized based on tasks. (If you have skill at starting a fire, or making a lever, or operating a gun, those are all the tasks accomplished; if you have skill at reading minds, or altering molecular structures, or shifting your metabolic functions to facilitate rapid healing, those are all the tasks accomplished. What tasks do your skills accomplish?)

I returned to class recently and had a sparring session. I noted that I was still significantly better than the novices. I think most of the skills are at 2@1 and I’ll note when I think they different.

Punch: The style also uses punches as a basic attack

Elbow strike: this is very damaging but you have to be very close (within a foot and a half) and it is hard to use. (-10 SM?) I don’t use this very often, so it’s probably 1@5.

Flip kick, Crescent Kick, Side kick and Front kick: Now that I think about it, these are probably basic attacks.

(the Crescent Kick isn’t that damaging.)

Back Kick: this is a powerful attack but you momentarily leave yourself open(-10 to defense?) and it’s hart to hit with(-10 SM?) I sometimes use this move, so it is probably 1@7 or 1@8.

Ax Kick: I can't imagine using this in a fight, so let's skip it.

Power Front Kick:(-10 SM?) I sometimes use this move, so it is probably 1@7 or 1@8.

Flying Side Kick:(-10 to hit, on a failed roll you lose your next attack to regain your balance) I hardly ever use this move, so it is probably 1@4 or 1@5.

Aggressive Running(run into Power Front Kick) (uses a attack, +?? DM to Power Front Kick) I hardly ever use this move, so it is probably 1@4 or 1@5.

Aggressive Running(slide into Side or Flip Kick)(uses a attack, +?? SM to Side or Flip Kick)

Bo Staff: it has been a few years sence I learned this.(1@2 or 1@3?)

Tonfa: it has been a few years sence I learned this.(1@2 or 1@3?)

Kiai: Lets go with the -10. This is probably at 1@6

Mystic? Skills:
What do you think about these skills? the skills below are probably at 1@2

I’ve read a few books about chi gung and tai chi. And, I’ve tried my hand at manipulating chi. The most I can do is gather energy from some source (the Sun, the Earth, or the air around me) and hold it in a spot for a few minutes. I can sometimes hold it in multiple spots or all over my body, but this cuts down the time I can hold it. This doesn’t seem to do must besides producing a very pleasant sensation or psyche me up so that I can break boards easier.

I can (in a quiet place) still my mind into a zen-like state (I don’t know if it is zen because I don’t have a zen teacher). I usually do this by focusing on a repeating series of numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4…) and ignoring my other thoughts. It's still a little noisy

All right, I'm impressed enough to give you a 2@1 hand/eye and 2@3 intellect.

I'm listing:

2@3 Operate Computer T11@0
1@4 Read and Write Computer Program T11@1 (Visual Basic, C++, Java)
1@4 Build Computer T11@5
1@8 Artificial Intelligence Theory T13@0

I note the convenience that I've already discussed your martial arts; I'll assume that the conclusions I reached there are satisfactory for you (and note that you have probably used them in play since then, so you probably have some idea of whether they work the way you expect or not). Thus I see:

Fast Aggressive Weapon-utilizing style, kick-based, RF2, +10 Att SM +10 Att Dam Mod.
I don't see a name for the style, but that's not important if you just want to call it "Eli's fast aggressive style". I also don't see any indication in that thread of how good you are with it. If you've been in training/practice since that thread, though, you've probably improved some--it was nearly a year ago.
Back Kick B7@1 basic attack on opponent directly behind.
Again, no skill ability level is suggested for this.
Roundhouse Kick B7@3 base dangerous.
It needs a detriment, and the other thread discusses possible ones, such as falling on failure, penalty to hit, sacrifice initiative, give up next attack, bonus next opponent attack. It also needs a skill ability level.
Crescent Kick B7@3 base dangerous.
All I just said about the Roundhouse Kick applies again, but that the detriments have to be greater to justify the increased (doubled) damage. I recommended +10 on next opponent attack, but there are other possibilities we can consider.
Axe Kick B7@3 base dangerous.
This repeats the same issues for the Crescent Kick.
Hook Kick B7@3 base dangerous.
And the same issues arise again. Also, as mentioned there, it is possible that any of these has a higher base damage (doubling again), but a greater detriment.
Aggressive Running B3@10 creates RS-10 Sit-mod on next attack, uses one attack.
This was a solution for applying the same enhancement technique to multiple attack forms; if you prefer, all the attacks can be duplicated in running and non-running versions, and you can be statted separated for each. This strikes me as more convenient and probably more realistic. Again, there's no SAL.
Kiai P8@0 shout to intimidate gives -10 sit-mod to opponent skills for one minute.
SAL. Also, the option to do something RS-based, that is, based on the successful roll, was raised in that thread, and I'm not closing that option.
Bo Stick B7@1 base damaging martial arts weapon, two-handed, RF1
SAL.
Tonfa B7@1 base damaging martial arts weapon, one-handed, RF1
SAL.

There is also some discussion there concerning whether your weapon skills included any kind of advanced parrying or disarming techniques. Since I was not having that discussion with you, there are no answers there.

But that's certainly a good start on the martial arts. Answers?

Agility: This is low-average (something like 1@4 or 1@5) I’m not graceful.

Hand/Eye: The first time I shot a firearm. I hit a four inch circle from 30 ft., 7 out of 10 times.
It was with a 22 cal autoloader handgun.

99% scored equal or less than 32 on the ACT. The only thing I can think of that suggests a higher intelligence is the fact that I thought the tests were easy.

Skills:
You have already discussed my martial arts in http://gamingoutpost.com/discussions/topic/martial-arts-skills-for-player .

Here is a list of skills and levels
Operate computer(Windows): low professional
Build computer: low amateur
Computer programming (visual basic, C++, and Java):low amateur

When I was 16-19 I read everything I could get on artificial intelligence and artificial life. If I met an AI, I would probably understand how it works better than most

I concur with Scott that your description of yourself suggests average or below animal magnetism, probably average persuasion, but an above average charisma. I'll guess 1@8 on the latter and make the other two 1@5. And yes, I prefer to start people myself when they come here to play, but I also hope to get others refereeing for each other eventually.

I'm torn on the strength question, because on the one hand being usually the strongest suggests top two percent, but on the other hand I imagine that the top two percent do lift weights, so I'm thinking 1@10. We'll make your stamina 1@6 because of the toughness against hits in sparring, and give you a 2@1 resistance because of your remarkable health.

I'll also note a 2@1 flexibility, because I'm impressed by being able to put your palms flat on the floor with your knees straight. (But then, I have relatively short arms for my body, so I find all those things difficult.)

Flexibility, agility, and hand/eye are pretty much the entire dexterity package. Flexibility describes how limber you are, hand/eye your ability to coordinate sense impression with physical action, and agility pretty much everything else--balance, coordination, grace, whatever. If you've done acrobatics, that's probably more related to agility; if you're a sharpshooter or archer, that tends to hand/eye. Hand/eye is more about hitting, agility more about dodging. Does that help?

99th percentile on the IQ test is 2@2 at least. I don't know the ACT scale. The only problem with scoring in the 99th %ile on a test is that you might be better than that. Any reason I should think you are in, say, the 99.5th or 99.8th?

I'll give you 1@10 on intuition, unless you can suggest why it ought to be higher than that. That's about one in ten people. 2@1 is the Ed Level.

I'm comfortable with a 1@7 will power--that's a bit stubborn.

Unless you want to address any of these scores in more detail, you can move to the skills post.

Resistance: Does this refer to your physical toughness or your resistance to disease and toxins?

Primarily the latter, but also resistance to such things as hostile environments or (rarely) supernatural or paranormal influences for which willpower is not the appropriate defense.

I’m not sure what social aspects they represent. Can you tell me the difference between them?

There's some illuminating discussion of this over in this thread, where I used Disney's Beast (of The Beauty and the) as a conversation starter. I'm too lazy to sum them up in this post, but your brief description of yourself sounds like Charisma is relatively high while An-Mag and Persuasion are relatively low.

Those percentiles should be useful to MJ; we often thumbnail attribute values using that method.

Anyway, welcome to the board, looking forward to your game. Bear in mind that you may get handed off to another referee at some point (possibly soon) to reduce MJ's considerable load, but I seem to recall he prefers to run new players himself for at least the first world or few.

Ok
I haven’t played with you before, but I’m playing with Oak on rpol and I’m the player Eric referred to in <href = "http://gamingoutpost.com/discussions/topic/martial-arts-skills-for-player"> martial arts skills for player.

Name: Eli Ray Bumbalough
Everyone calls me Eli.

Persuasion
Charisma
Animal Magnetism

I’m not sure what social aspects they represent. Can you tell me the difference between them?

Generally, I am very easy to get along with and most people are friendly if I have known them for a while. But in most social situations I tend to fade into the background.

Strength: I tend to be the strongest person in most groups. Generally, people who are stronger than me ether lift weights or are larger than me.

Stamina: average

Resistance: Does this refer to your physical toughness or your resistance to disease and toxins?

My sparing partners tend to commit on how most hit don’t affect me.
As far as I can remember I haven’t miss school or work due to illness.

Flexibility: I can easily touch my toes and with some effort I can place my palms on the floor.

Agility
Hand/Eye

I’m not sure what aspects they represent in game. Can you tell me the difference between them?

Intellect: I scored 140 on an official I.Q test. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the test’s standard deviation. I remember that 99% of the population score at or below that score. I also scored 32 on the ACT and 99% on the ASVAB

Intuition: I tend to notice things a few seconds before most people and my hunches are generally correct.

Education Level: I went to ITT Tech for one and a half years.

Will Power: I can be stubborn but it is nothing special.

Weaknesses: extremely allergic to bees and wasps. Extremely nearsighted, I have to wear glasses to read and drive, Although I can fight without them on.

Age: 21
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 240 Ibs.
Physical Description:
Face:
Hair: Dark brown
Eyes: Brown
Description: It's round. It's not ugly but it's not attractive either. It would probably look better if I grew a beard and mustache.

Skin: Pale… until it sees some sunlight then it turns bronze.

 Body Description:
Limbs: Long and muscular
Torso: Muscular with a thin layer of fat over it

Harry, you're forgiven. Hopefully Alex gets back here and answers the questions.

Someone with no intuition would never expect anything and would be surprised by everything. It would be like 10 Second Tom of 50 First Dates, but applied to everything--nothing would ever fit the pattern, because there would be no pattern. At the same time, the character would not be aware of anything but that on which he was focused. Trees have no intuition, but they are not surprised because they have limited sensory ability and no intellect.
