I just got off the phone with MJ, he's having problems with his phone line, and cannot currently access the Internet. If you are the sort of person who prays, say a prayer for him, I'm sure he would appreciate it.

May the God of his faith show him mercy, and may his return be swift and painless, that his genius may bring us entertainment and companionship once again.

Well, missing a day here and there is normal, and pretty acceptable, all things considered. Saturday is his normal day away from the forums, so I'm not going to begrudge him not coming on Saturday. Missing the Friday is pretty standard too. Maybe he just wanted a few days to relax. I don't see a problem with that. If MJ isn't back on tonight, I'll call him tomorrow and see what's what.

I was told the MJ currently on the forums is not the same guy. The real MJ is actually duct taped to a chair in his basement while the person responsible has been posing as him on the forums with the intent that he will slowly destroy all of your games.
I was told that in the days the "phone lines were out" that MJ was holding out on revealing his password.
MJ is telling the fake poster the content of his blogs and he has been sneaking messages in them to tip us off. If you look closely, his blogs have been uncharacteristically upbeat and that he has had free time. If that isn't a tip off, I do not know what is.
In the meantime, kidnapper, please ask if MJ includes cartoons on his Temporal Anomalies site because there is a direct to DVD Futurama movie that is all about time travel. Is his coverage limited to theatrical releases? Why does MJ stockpile canned goods and meat by-products? Will his children carry out his legacy when he steps down? Why is the novel almost $100? I do not believe for a minute that you meet at 5 am to provide autographed photos, that story seemed too far-fetched, what were you and others really doing? Why do you know so many people that do not drive and have to drive around? Could you earn an income by charging them? And the Reuben Kincaid role you have with a band seems creepy.Thu Jan 17 2008 10:52 am # -
Dude, who are you??

John, meet Wicker T. Bunglepoo, a sane man who pretends to be crazy. Wicker, meet John Cross, a--no, I won't go there.
Oddly I was just chatting with Jim about the time someone appeared on the forums asking whether I was the "real" Mark Young, the black dude from the poor section one of the towns around here, or the white guy the company hired to play him at public appearances. Was that one of yours, Wicker, or do we have someone else to thank for that bit of entertaining nonsense?
I was given the Futurama movie just the other day, and put it in the stack of time travel films to review; however, I was not aware that it was direct-to-DVD, and I might have to reconsider whether to review it--the rules are based on the assumption that I am reviewing "the theatrical release" of a movie, and if there is no theatrical release, there can't be such a version. Besides, there are already too many time travel movies for me to watch them all; doing analyses of productions that were never in theatres opens a floodgate for many more. On the other hand, I thought the original episodes of Futurama were rather creative, and it took half a season before it started degenerating into the typical mindless garbage that so much American animation seems to be.
I wish I could stockpile food. John Cross does that. I'm just trying to keep even, and if there's anything in my pantry that is more than a couple months old, it's because no one here will eat it.
I am hopeful that my sons will continue Multiverser after I'm gone. I'm particularly invested in Kyler in that regard, but his brothers are also involved to a lesser degree.
The novel is only a third the price you cite; hopefully it will be released in paperback for less, and possibly it will eventually become an e-book as well, although Tony DiCandido, who has experience producing and marketing e-books, say the market is not ready for them and they do very poorly.
As to the story of meeting at five in the morning to sign a photo, that's completely true. It is also contextualized--I was returning from a trip north and diverted to pass near Jim's place; Jim is usually up that late anyway, as he has no commitments in the morning and gets more work done in the quiet of the night. The purpose of the stop was to sign the photo; we also talked business while we were together, but no minutes were kept and I can't now recall what exactly we discussed.
I suspect that part of the reason I know so many people who need to be driven is that I've been willing to drive them in the past. Their reasons for needing me are different--one lost his license for drunk driving, one is very sick and on dialysis and other treatments for which he should not drive himself, one broke a hip and is no longer physically safe driving, a couple have not yet gotten their licenses because there were other matters in their lives derailing them, one can't afford a car, others fall into similar stories and I don't always know the stories. We do our best to help people in need, and sometimes they help us in return. Some of them sometimes give me gas money, and most of them can't afford it, and the rest think that me picking them up and driving them around is adequately compensated by whatever it is they do for me.
I have no idea who Reuben Kincaid is. I was playing bass guitar with a guy in his twenties, and he pulled in a younger guy and then quit; the younger guy and I started putting together a band. It looks now as if there's going to be another guy closer to my age as well as a few his age, so yes, we're rather diverse in age; but if you want to do music that will appeal to people in their teens and twenties, you probably need musicians in that age group to keep you on track. Anyway, that's the kind of music I tend to write, so that's my target audience. (I've written stuff for an older audience, but it's harder to get that performed for some reason.)
That should answer this crop of all your questions.

I did not realize you were a black man but that seems hard to believe based on your appearance. I had nothing to do with that because I did not realize there was a poorer section in any of the towns you've lived except for close to where you live now.
I rarely correspond with Jim by email but it never dawned on me he kept late hours but it makes sense, I think Ben Franklin worked by candlelight. But I have not spoke with him since the Futurama movie came out. The movie almost made it to theatres because the success of the Simpsons movie but they decided it would sell better at Christmas and I think the aspect ratio was not widescreen.
I don't like people named John or anyone with steaksauce in their handle for that matter.Thu Jan 17 2008 10:11 pm # -

Steaksauce culture? Is that some sort of dated term? I never heard anyone use that term but it sounds like it may be a product of the Leave it to Beaver era, if so...well, golly, swell!

Wicker, I don't particularly like people with bodily excrements in their handle, so I suppose we can draw it there.
John(s), don't let Wicker ruffle your respective feathers. He's just playing.
