   The cloud rising from the mountaintop obscures parts of the sky.

   The fruit is entirely earth-like, identical in every identifiable way to the same fruit from home. The sky, on the other hand, is entirely different--the moon looks similar but not identical, and the stars offer no familiar patterns.

   When you say that you are going to walk "toward the other side of the mountain," does that mean you are going to climb to the peak (where the glowing cloud appears), or that you are going to skirt the peak and head for the south side (since you came up the north slope) without reaching the top? (Or for that matter, since you came from the western end, are you skirting the peak and heading for the eastern end?)

   My primary interest is whether you are going toward the glowing cloud, and how close you intend to get to it.

   I head up the mountin cause I am curious and want to see closly what that smoke is.

   As you approach, you realize just how large this cloud is. It is rising from a hole in the top of the mountain, perhaps as much as a hundred yards in diameter (the word that comes to mind is "crater"), and the orange glow comes from fairly deep within this hole and is accompanied by incredible heat. In fact, it is difficult to get close enough to peer into the hole for the source of the light or heat.

   I decied to head back down and go to the other side of the Iland looking around and making sure nothing happens to me.

   When you say the "other side", which way do you mean? That is--

   • You started on the south side.
   • Then you followed the beach around to the west end, or perhaps west side, where you met Michael.
   • Then you continued around the north side along the beach, and climbed the north face of the mountain to the peak.

   Thus the "other" side might mean that you're going to cross the crater (presumably by going around it) and continue toward the east end, or that you're going to continue over the mountain back toward the south side, or that you're going to cross diagonally such that you're headed for the south side more toward the east end, or that you're doubling back toward the north side but toward the east, or even that you're headed back toward Michael in the west.

   Note, too, that you are traveling by night at this point.
