   I wonder if there are worlds like these written. If there are, well, maybe I'll wind up there someday. If not... here goes.

   1: The Orient Express - A low-magic, moderate-psionics, age-of-steam-era technology world, with a scenario that focuses primarily on a long-distance train voyage, rather like the Trans-Siberian Railroad (the longest in the world) or the Orient Express. I'm picturing this being set in the winter, with a very Russian or Eastern European feel.

   2: Final Fantasy-ish - A low-psionics, strong magic that is not widespread, and steampunk technology level world, with huge rich/poor divides and random magical effects, mitigated somewhat in cities.

   For #1, I know that Eric sometimes runs his Mary Piper Siberian train run; I don't remember the details exactly, but it's very like your trading ship except on a train in a collapsed Soviet Republic.

   For #2, I've not done anything steampunk, but Eric has dabbled in it--he once put me on the Mary Piper Furry Steampunk, which was a riot all the way through. However, psionics were strong and magic weak there. Despite the fact that my kids were big fans of the FF video game series, I'm not that well versed in the world, although I know it's very S&S and has some weird technology in it.

   I remember Bill Friant was working on a world with technology so high it seemed like magic, and was often 0@ voice activated so the people who used it seemed like wizards; I did something of the same thing with Industrial Complex. But that's not what you're thinking.

   I'd check with Eric, but he's enjoying a vacation at the moment.
