This thread BELONGS here. Let me explain; when I sit at the table during a game o Multiverser, I tend to comment on other players' games. (Frequently my commentary isn't entirely appreciated, hence "no comments from the peanut gallery!") There have been many times that I've wished to comment on someone else's thread, but there's the irrefutable rule that game threads are in character, and I certainly wouldn't want to break that rule. That's why the peanut gallery! I don't know if the rest of you have this experience in your live games... I apologize if you dislike it, but if you do like it, or if you feel the urge to "contribute" to someone's game in a non-rules oriented way, please, by all means, post away. On that note... that's really a low blow, Harry.

I think you answered your own question Kyler.

I always welcome commentary, or in general just talking and commentary tends to spark that.
Also John I believe you read what he said to be that he wouldn't post commentary if you'd rather he didn't. He simply apologized for the fact that he's going to whether or not you like it.
This should be amusing.

If, by his own admission, his commentary isn't appreciated, why make it at all? That's what I was saying.

Hmmm....
Well, its already been established that there's fish oil on the floor to slip in. So our hero could slip in that.
Its probably excessive for the attacker to have dipped his dagger in some poison, but one of the factors in a knife fight is that little cuts add up. One person starts to bleed more, and weakens...or so I've read in a lot of fiction books...never actually having been in a knife fight.
I'd be thinking cinematic. And perhaps ironic. Nothing like the attacker grabbing a candle off the table, or a gas lamp off the wall and tossing it at the hero. If it misses, then it hits the tapestry behind the hero and sets it ablaze.
Or there's the good one where the attacker grabs a nearby pretty girl and tosses her at the hero to obstruct him, and then uses the additional time to get out another weapon.
Now realistically most knife fights aren't as interesting as a Jackie Chan duel on a movie, but there is a lot to be said for trying to make them so.

I have no problems with a separate thread for comments, just disliked the flow disruption in the thread itself.
As for Harry, it's funny he wants to verse out, but such an average opponent is fighting him, I would have thought someone with a grudge would have backup, but that's my 2 cents.
Thu Sep 16 2010 3:33 am # -
I welcome the commentary, but ask that referents are given. I'm running Harry's game and happened already to have glanced at the thread, but it took me a moment to figure out what it was about.
Adam--the pirate in the restaurant is a chance meeting. It wasn't a bad enough GE roll to make it an ambush.
I'm completely clueless concerning what Eric is saying, but I figure if it's about Harry's thread I'll figure it out when I get there.
Thanks for starting this, Kyler, it's a good compromise.

yeah, nice. I don't have to hold back any longer.
From A1 and Eric I've now learned what Wampum is. Cool stuff.
Jhiaxus on the Iron Plains. I'm really enjoying that read. You really handle stuff well there J. (and Eric as well)
Thu Sep 16 2010 8:03 am # -
I personally feel that the iron plains combats have too many actions per post, but my only combat so far has been live play, so I might end up irritated by trying to do things action by action.

@ Harry's game run by MJ: well, now he'll definitely be back for you, but at least you know his kids won't. @ Adam's game run by MJ: don't be fooled, it was Harry with that $&@* groin kick.
Thu Sep 16 2010 12:18 pm # -
@Nikolaj: Thanks, it's different when I'm put in a world that I am driven to action, then when I have time to train. The training ones get boring, but they usually get broken up.
@JTM: Different referees have different paces and styles. Eric is very fast and loose, he takes your plan and runs with it, stopping when there is a major deviation.
@Harry: All you need to do is poke him in the eyes and bite him and you have the trifecta of dirty fighting going :P
Thu Sep 16 2010 1:16 pm # -
@Harry's game: He already threw a plate of food in the guy's eyes, that's kind of like poking in the eyes.

I agree, but then again, if someone gets into a fight with me, there is no fighting to be a gentleman, it's to one or the other isn't in a position to continue, so I can relate :P

MJ,
In Harry's game...The attacker already slipped on fish oil on the floor, so the hero could as well.
Also, Harry got nicked already by the blade so he could be bleeding, and thus he might have problems if the fight lasts a long time with losing blood. He also might have a problem with blood getting on his weapon and making it slippery.
By Cinematic, I mean the type of wild and crazy and interesting fight moves seen in movies. This is the opposite of the old skool D&D...'you hit. Roll dice for damage.'.
One example would be for the attacker to grab a fire based lighting device (either decorative or neccessary aka either candle or lamp) and use it as an improvised throwing weapon. The ironic part comes from Harry being part of a fight that causes a fire when he is a fireman.
One sequence that you could do...
Attacker tosses pretty girl at hero. Hero aids her. Attacker tosses chair at them both. Hero decides to take the chair on his body to shield girl (autohit).Thu Sep 16 2010 2:35 pm # -

@ Michael's game w. MJ: I have been paying attention to the thread, so maybe I'm confused. Is there a reason why Michael doesn't try branching out and learning some new psionic skills on his own, or is that only because there are so many teachers here?
Thu Sep 16 2010 7:00 pm # -
I have tried learning a few on my own, but I'm really cautious about it because of the way I versed out last world.
In NagaWorld I botched on using the psionic drill and contacted the Nash Far Kraal, and got decimated when he found out I wasn't a Kraal.
I intend to teach myself a bunch when I'm more accomplished, but for now I have so much to learn from people ready to teach me, not to mention I'm enjoying the world a lot and really really really don't want to verse out any time soon

The attacker already slipped on fish oil on the floor, so the hero could as well.
The attacker slipped as color to explain the rolls behind the screens. I would never have a character slip arbitrarily to confound an attack. It is possible to assess a penalty against everyone for the presence of the fish oil on the floor, but the math would then favor Harry even more than the pirate.
@ Harry's game run by MJ: well, now he'll definitely be back for you, but at least you know his kids won't.
It took a moment to remember the situation, but yes, I laughed.
All is fair in love and in fighting. No such thing as a low blow in a street fight.
In the words of Captain Jack Sparrow, "Pirate."
Nicely described, MJ. I like the use of 'scuttled'.
Thanks. (Did I use the word "scuttled"? I'll have to see how I used it.)
Is there a reason why Michael doesn't try branching out and learning some new psionic skills on his own, or is that only because there are so many teachers here?
He kind of answered that. It's a strange world, because all the psionicists think they're working magic, and they're all natural-born psions. I've had to move with care, because there are some restrictions--the men cannot do telekinesis of objects and the women cannot fly but can telekinese objects on which they are seated, and that seems to be an inborn limitation. If one of them versed out, I would probably remove the limitation, but while they're in the world I have to be very cautious about what they learn from him.

This seemed like a good place for random chatter. I'm watching Airwolf on DVD. Not as good as I remember, but I was 7 or 8 years old when this was on TV. Of course it was cooler then. Anyway, they're looking at a computer screen which is identifying a facility they're going to thus:
Activity
Livermore Biological
Research Center
Type Emission: Laser
Priority: A1/Alpha
Disp: Clear-Gao 38D49The reason I posted this should be obvious. I have yet to meet someone who knew the true meaning of A1nut. A1 is a prefix meaning The Best, top priority, top of the line, etc. A1 steak sauce, the best, top of the line steak sauce, get it? No one ever knew the true meaning.

yeeeeah... neeeeeaaah... not here. this thread is intended for ooc discussion of game threads on the forum, generally for irreverent comments that usually get people pelted with dice by the referee. but by all means, start a seperate thread in the off topic section and post away.

@ my game thread with MJ: any chance of getting a level bonus to one of my skills for my birthday? *Gazuntite, muscle blocking, evasive rolling to avoid the throwing die*
Sun Sep 19 2010 1:16 am # -
Um--yeah, um, happy birthday Kyler, although I'm posting it a few hours early.
John--as Kyler says, this is not a random chatter thread. This is a peanut gallery thread--comments, reverent or ir, about what's happening in other people's games. As Kyler says, if you want a random off topic discussion thread, feel free to start one. You will please note that there is an "Off Topic" forum for just such threads, and I'd like to keep such "Off Topic" threads off the Official Multiverser Forum at Gaming Outpost, so please make sure you post them in the "Off Topic" forum.
And as for nobody getting the "A1nut", you can't possibly know that nobody gets it. The problem is that there are several possible interpretations of it:
- Your interpretation as "A-1 Nut" meaning the best nut out there.
- The interpretation of "A-1 Nut" as someone who is crazy about A-1 steak sauce.
- "ALNUT", that is "All Nut" in L33+ (that's pronounced "Leet" for anyone not in the know on that), substituting the almost indistinguishable number one for the letter L to indicate someone who is completely and totally nuts.
But that's off-topic and doesn't belong in this thread, so I apologize for the derailment.

Ky, does the fact that you've just picked up Oak mean you're picking up some of the others? I could probably reconstruct the list of who you were going to run versus who you were leaving for me, but on the other hand I know that your situation has changed significantly and you might be taking a different batch.
--M. J. Young
Sun Sep 19 2010 10:37 pm # -
my situation has changed yes; I would feel confident taking on several, but I realized suddenly that I kind of left Oak hanging which I don't like doing. As for when,I'll get back to you next week when I know my work schedule; but it shouldn't be a problem when I'm done working twelve hour days and the store is actually open for business. one thing to post from work while playing, another to post from work while runnin a game; I don't know the system THAT well to be able to say "Oh, you want to try to learn to fire a flamethrower as a mag artifact? well, that bias is x@y" if you get my drift
Sun Sep 19 2010 10:52 pm # -
Talk about deja vu--I read Kyler's last two posts on Oak's game and felt like things were happening again....
Take your time, Ky. I certainly do understand--I have to look them up myself, and it's not always easy.

@Kyler, I post M-F, weekends I take off, I may still answer posts on my game. On that note looking for my spare book to take to work so I can make sure I'm stating Bias for skills correctly.

Ah, I squeezed in a moment's work break, and finally discovered this thread... :)
So I'll let Eric know (Kyler already knows) that my work schedule has been pretty wild lately, so my posting frequency will suffer a bit... :o

@ Harry's game: I certainly wouldn't be in any condition to fight for quite a while after a blow like that! Nothing I can think of says "and stay down" better than the thought of dying from... in quite that particular manner.
Mon Sep 20 2010 9:40 pm # -
@ my own game with Adam: I'm in no hurry to leave this world, but whe I inevitably do, and not necessarily as the next world, but I would enjoy going to the Pearl Harbor world opening into WW2. Get to kill some Nazis ;P Goes without saying, your call, but I wanted to put it out there that I would like to go there if you're stumped for a world to send me to.
Mon Sep 20 2010 10:01 pm # -
For Kyler, there's also my Nazis and Japanese Imperium divide up America with the Rockies as a DMZ world. Lots of chances to kill Nazis. Tom Day and offline I think, Mentat played in that world.

In my own game with Jhiaxus, I have a punning monster. Stalin means 'man of steel', and so I've made a version of Stalin who is a lich with a hidden heart, and a body made of solid osmium steel except for the outer skin.
