Dude, I am not even kidding, Sealand, a tiny tiny TINY wanna be country near England is selling certificates to become lords and ladys of their country for just thirty pounds which is roughly $50 plus shipping of a certificate. A tiny country that leaks, and probably has no exports. http://www.sealandgov.org/shop.html
Would you like to become a lord or lady for real?

And what happens when you show up there with your certificate of lordship and try to claim your castle? Sounds like something an email scammer would come up with.

There's no Castles in Sealand lmao it's this old tiny brittish fort that was placed in international waters and wants to become it's own country, it's a real thing but no country reconsises it as a country and for good reason http://www.weirdthings.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/sealand.jpg It's tiny, it leaks, it probably has no exports except for this, I would only get it for the laughs and to demand everyone call me Lady Ahmetia XD Seriously, this IS infact a real thing this wanna be country dose to gain income to try and build its country.
Side note: Sealand is a Monarchy, but a Monarchy of 4 people lmao
Basically it's history is that during WWII a fort was accidentally placed in international waters. After the war the fort became into a state of constant disrepair and was constantly leaking with no sign of coming back with any value, England abandoned it. After some short time a British noble had troubles with the British government and went to Sealand and claimed it as his own country and him his prince, since it was abandon and placed into international waters, he legally did so. And now Sealand is struggling to try and become a recognized country and have it's own economy and power. Sealand's currently known for being naive and a heart bigger then it's country. You'd kind of have to be to see that ever becoming a country.

Though I bet being a lord or lady of Sealand would mean about as much as being a middle classed Serria Leonean.

Also, it will be 30 pounds to buy the certificate, but quite some money to repair everything I reackon. Besides that, being a Lord is a great responsability, certainly if you want to be a good Lord. And in these days it also will include a lot of paperwork and meetings and politics. So it won't be anything for me I think.

Wouldn't surprise me if they did, it's population is 4 so they really need the people help.

Ahmetia, don't take offense to what I'm about to say, I just wanted to tell you something. I'm the last person in the world who has the right to tell people not to post, but something I didn't realize is that MJ, as site moderator, is obligated to read every single post on this board, whether it has to do with gaming or not. The more non-game threads there are, the longer it will take him to get to the games. This thread has nothing to do with gaming. Then again, neither does my November 19, 2005 thread. It's just something to be aware of for the future, that's all.

I don't know that they need people as much as they need money. After all, they can't have much of an economy, probably have to import all their food, and have little to export unless they can fish or drill for oil.
There are complications involved in the idea. Particularly, to be a nobleman of one state usually means swearing fealty to that state, and in essence renouncing citizenship in any other. I remember some years back that a U.S. Secretary of something-or-other was offered a knighthood by the Queen of England, and it was recent enough to my studies in American law that I knew that acceptance would disqualify him from elected office in the U.S. But I don't remember exactly where that limitation is.

Considering Sealand is not recongised as a country by any other country,i wouldn't be sure.

This sounds so much like those ads you used to see in comic books "Buy one cubic inch of land in sunny Florida." It would supposedly send you a deed and a legal description of the property. Just making a comparison.

It dose, I dunno, maybe Sealand is pulling a scam to try and start their country, more then likely it's what someone else said and that you have to help out alot more financially and stuff and have to be in political meetings and all that.

I suppose you could be taxed and drafted for military service, but how would they enforce it?
However, even if the country is not formally recognized by anyone else (I gather it is on an artificial structure of some sort), your declaration of fealty to the crown of that country could be sufficient to negate your citizenship here.
