As we expected, several people have complained that they do not wish to have to 'sign' their posts with their real names, because they are more known by their handles.
I just wanted to reiterate a couple of things about why we are switching to requiring the use of first and last names.
The biggest thing is that for processing credit cards for payment, we obviously need to have your name, my credit cards don't say yakob_twj on them, they say Jacob Ezzell.
Also, requiring people to post with their name visable on the post, not hidden in a user profile window, we hope will help two things. First, people may be less likely to jump into flaming eachother when its more personable, not BadAssGamer2000 and gamerz_R_lamerz going at each other.
Secondly, hopefully this will reduce the "club" aire surrounding GO's forums, because it will be a bunch of people, not a bunch of faceless handles.
One thing to remember though, is that you can put whatever you want in your sig-file. The user's name will appear somewhere around the message, but we are not in any way restricting what you really sign your messages with. Think of it as a letter on your stationary. You can still write whatever you want, sign it whatever you want, but your name and address will allways be visable at the top.
