I just had a thought. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the Women's Liberation Movement, but it just kind of seemed like that was appropriate.
Fifty years ago, mostly it was women that knew how to type. Now, thanks to The Internet and home computers, more men know how to type. What was once considered women's work is now a pretty unisex skill, and a necessity to everyday life. I don't know why, I just thought perhaps some people might be interested in that.
Something else. I personally have terrible handwriting. I had to learn how to type to do book reports. I was already typing 10-15 words per minute by the time I took a typing class Junior year. The teacher was a real B**** but I digress. It was just something I was thinking about.
It just goes to show you there's really no such thing as "men's work" and "women's work," just things that people really ought to know how to do.
Just because I'm male doesn't mean I can't know how to cook (in fact I'm the best cook I know - ask anybody about my chicken parmesean) or sew (I make my own RenFaire garb). There were girls in my auto shop in high school, and I knew a ten-year-old girl who was an avid hunter. Come to think of it, her brother made a damn good venison jerky. I should give them a call one of these days...
