Ya know, I just had a thought. I sometimes have trouble controlling my psychotic episodes behind closed doors, where nothing gets hurt but my steel front door (I have been known to punch the steel front door during a psychotic episode. The quick jolt of pain slows the episode somewhat.) However, my soon to be former next door neighbor can't control himself in public!! We have an issue going about my psychotic episodes being too noisy for him. The amazing thing though is that he is the first of my many neighbors to complain about them at all. Anyway, I went outside to try to talk to him. The banging on the door and floor slows the episode, but it makes noise. One day, he woke me up by banging on his own floor. I went outside, rather incoherently, to talk to him about it. I believe my intentions were to apologize, that he had finally made his point about the noise, and it won't happen again. I can't be sure of this, from the just waking up that I had done. I do know I was speaking as rationally as I could in my condition. I haven't done it since. He started screaming at me and threatening to call 911 if I came any closer. I'm trying to talk to him rationally, and he is screaming obscenities at me, and telling me that I need to be locked up. Does anyone else see the irony in this? I can't control my rage behind closed doors, where no one gets hurt, but my neighbor can't control his rage in public. And I am the one that needs to be locked in a straight jacket. How's that for irony? I used to say "I'm not crazy, I'm just so normal I make everyone else look nuts" I think maybe that statement might, in fact, be correct.
BTW, I say he is my soon to be former next door neighbor not because I am getting evicted, but because I am moving out under my own power. I found a 1 bedroom apartment for the same price as what I'm currently paying for a studio, AND the other complex has a pool. I figure I win anyway. My apartment complex let me out of the lease early, in light of the situation. I win!!!!
It sounds like this guy's complaining is turning out to be a blessing in disguise. You probably wouldn't have been looking for this better deal if he weren't being a jerk, right? And as a bonus, you're not his neighbor any more. Win-win.
Actually, a friend of mine lives in the complex I am moving to. I found out about it from him. I was thinking about moving there anyway, but I wouldn't have been able to get out of my lease until next February or March. They said that in a situation like this, they will let someone out of their lease early. That's the blessing in disguise, actually. But yes, win-win, and I now how proof positive that I am not insane.
It sounds to me like your neighbor is terrified of you.
Of course, he doesn't know you like we do; on the other hand, he's too afraid to give you the chance.
