In playtesting Ti Premeras, a point occurred to me. In Starsong, MJ benefited from the fascination that citizens of the ultra-tech 24th century thought of the 'Twencen' as they called it. It was in many respects how Moderns feel about the Medieval times.
However, in the eighteenth century it was common to not appreciate the Dark Ages, and probably several of our negative associations with the Dark Ages are the result of Rennaissance or later propaganda.
So, one could have a verser arrive in the 27th century, and be distrusted because he comes from 'that Cursed Time with Communist Fascist Babykiller Nazis running loose, and Terrorists Transhumanist Organleggers and Self-cloners running amok.'
There's certainly been a number of good and valid reasons why someone in the 27th might look back on us as 'a bunch of savages who waver between belligerence and cowardice without ever approaching true courage.' Abortion, Buchenwald, Cultural Revolution, Darfur...
Another thing I am considering is Time's Telescope. We look back and see little difference sometimes between the 17th and the 18th centuries, and we might blame a 17th century guy for the horrors of the American Civil War which doesn't start till 1865. So, our 27th century person might know of a number of horrors of the 21st and 22nd and confuse them as the responsibility of the early 21st century person (This is where the Transhumanist Organ-legger Self-cloner stuff comes from.)
So you could wander into a nice futurist town and hear "Why are you dressed like one of Them?" delivered with perfect scorn the way we would treat someone we saw on the street in a Nazi outfit.
