What will be the attendance of MJ at Ubercon if any? Thanks.

According to Andrew in the Board Games Room, there are Multiverser events scheduled for all three days. Although I'm hitting the volunteer hours hard, I've managed to keep most of those hours open. I am assuming MJ will be there.

On a similar vein, where is the boss lately? I know he normally takes Saturdays off, but it seems unlike him to be gone for three days without a "hey guys I'm going away for like three days," doesn't it?
At the very least we'll probably get the short version when he comes back, but it's still a bit disconcerting until then.

I got an email from MJ last night. He's having some kind of technical difficulties with the site, and expects to return today.

Indeed, I was locked out of the site for a couple days. I dropped John Cross a note last night because

1. I have his address pretty conveniently, and
2. He has been known to call me with well-meant phone calls that have scared other members of the household when he doesn't hear from me for a few days, and
3. I figured if someone asked, someone should have an answer, and he was as good a choice as anyone.

At the same time, I also contacted Aaron via Facebook (yes, I have Facebook, MySpace, and LinkedIn identities; no, I don't know the links offhand) to make him aware of the problem, partly because I knew he would notice my absence eventually and partly because I didn't know how many other people were affected (turns out he was, too). I had a pretty good idea where to start, and seem to have corrected the problem, but Sunday was a bad day and Monday is always a bad day, so today was my first real opportunity to do anything.

Yes, I am scheduled to be at Ubercon. I have not yet announced even to a number of people who really need to know, because I've been that busy. I'm sharing the room with a not quite total stranger who is also a convention GM, which will cost as much double occupancy for each of us as the single occupancy room at a Motel 6 would cost, but keeps me on site so I don't have to drive back and forth. Kyler will not be with me; Tristan was thinking about whether he could make it as my assistant, although he has no experience at this. I still need to talk with John Walker, but I have not actually had five minutes to talk with him face to face since the last Ubercon, so I don't see that happening.

I believe I am currently scheduled for three games, one panel, the CGG worship service, and--well, O.K., let me take a step back. There is a game Friday night. There are two games on Saturday; there are also two panels, but one of them conflicts with one of the games. I am going to investigate whether I can shift the timing of the game so I can sit on the panel, because it's a good panel for me, but I haven't had the chance even to look at exactly how they conflict. On Sunday we have the service in the morning and in the afternoon we have a game slot, but I believe it is being slotted as a referee's class, an opportunity for me to attempt to teach people how to run this game. We've got people here who think that's a good idea and who are hoping I will do the same for them.

That's the rough sketch of the plan. Yes, the events are already on the Ubercon schedule, for which I am indebted to Liz and Alyssa.

MJ - I look forward to seeing you there again. I think I have most of the slots for your games free, but probably not the panel. If I'm conscious I might even poke my head in at the worship service.

Will you be bringing printouts of character sheets again? I know you maintain up-to-date copies, something I've had horrible issues with all along (though it may be easier now that I have my own computer).

Harry, my usual procedure is that anyone who hopes to play at the convention notifies me that he needs a sheet a few days in advance, and I post his sheet to this forum for him to copy, print, and bring. If that is a problem, we can attempt to do something else--but I go through a lot of paper and ink in the last few days before Ubercon, and do not relish adding character sheets to the thneeds lists. It's enough that I have to print large sections of game threads for reference (another reason I have to know you will be there).

Another critical point that I make every time: I am there to introduce new players to the game, and they have priority. I don't want to sit alone at a table doing nothing, and so old players are welcome to play when turnout is low, but must not expect that new players will be bumped to make time for them.

(On the other hand, I have on occasion used an old player in the Tropical Island world in place of Michael di Vars. It keeps it interesting to let that role be played by someone else. If you don't mind playing that part, I don't mind letting you play it, as long as it's only one person doing it.)

And I know about your new players rule - that's why I always try my best to lure in newbies for you, along with my own small share of the table time.

I have an autographed, misprinted, first edition copy of Verse Three Chapter One, MJ's first Multiverser novel. When MJ makes it big (And I'm sure it's just a matter of time) that puppy will be worth a small fortune.

Harry, I am always willing to autograph my stuff if it's there when I am.
