Brain surgeons have done operations with conscious patients for epilepsy. This involves the surgeon manipulating aspects of the brain, and evoking memories, thoughts, feelings. But all such patients (hundreds of thousands of them) claim that these feelings are being imposed on them, and are not their own.
This makes a very strong case for the non-materiality of the mind.
It also makes a strong case that one would be instantly aware of a psi attack that did anything more than scan your mind.
Also, the movie A Beautiful Mind (which I haven't seen) is about a mathmatician with paranoid schizophrenia who sees things that aren't there. He figures out they aren't real, and acts on this truth, and they become more distant and less real to him.
It would be a case of the mind healing the brain, rather like a guy with an infirmity of the body going on a walking and good foot and clean air program to heal his body (supposedly Teddy Roosevelt helped make himself stronger to overcome childhood sickness.)

Ya know Eric, that's kind of what I'm doing with my psychosis therapy. The psychotic episodes are based on memories of things that I have done that I regret. Imagine a home movie of all of your life's most embarrassing, humiliating moments playing back before your eyes, and you cannot shut it off.
My conscious mind realizes that these were just mistakes that I should learn from. However, my brain says "Let's throw these back up in his face at every waking moment." (Hence, why it took me so long to let go of Pearl Harbor)
The therapy involves putting myself into a mildly psychotic state, where I am able to "face my demons" and let them go. So yes, I can certainly see where you're coming from here.
