Since you did not specialize in weapon making when you were studying either under Mr. Smith nor here on TerraNova, you can't say that you specialized in it in your training and practice to this point. What you can do is focus future practice on developing weapon making skills, defining (somewhat narrowly) what type of weapons you are making (e.g., blunt weapons, axes/adzes/picks, polearms, swords and knives), and use your future practice to develop a 2@1 skill in weaponmaking of that type.

If you are making a weapon, there would be one roll made for whether you succeed in making a weapon. Failure means you made something clearly inadequate, success up to 50 would be a weapon of ordinary quality, and success of 51 or higher would be a quality weapon. A botch would be handled separately, but might be a hidden defect--a weapon that appears to have superior quality but fails at some future point.

Yes, an electromagnetic locking device needs batteries.

You would by now be able to add threading to a pipe without too much difficulty. They make tools for that, and you know how to use them.

Actually, there are three designs of lock washers. The split ring type is probably the original, but there is also a type with inner teeth bent at slight angles, and a third type which is curved along the ring such that the inner and outer edges are lower than the center. The point of all three designs is that they create spring. Thus when the work shivers or jars and the space tightens slightly, the spring absorbs the slack maintaining the surface friction and preventing the nut and bolt from loosening relative to each other.

But I'm not certain how that helps your design.

Oh--I'm sure they can get you some kind of pouch for your baton. Just bring it in and they'll size it for you.

Go back to my room and pray.

1@1 Bonus Blacksmithing/Metalworking Skill Checks M+1@4 retire to personal room or quarters, kneel with total body involvement, pray with appropriate words for forgiveness, wisdom, strength, and help with current task, 5:00TF, confers +20 on next major task attempted, +53SM

New use on that?

One roll which needs to be 51 but not a failure to make a weapon of quality? As I stated, my character is determined to do this right. If the roll is not 51 but not a failure, then my character won't be happy with the results, and it will go into the trash, and a new baton started from scratch. (What is "scratch" and how can everything be made from it?) This is my project. Everything else is unneeded. No martial arts training, no hanging out with Lauren, no nothing. It's work, then build the baton. If the roll is less than 51 but not a failure, he isn't happy, try again. (MJ, I sure hope you know how to roll a 51 on purpose....)

Concerning lock washers, I always assume the other person doesn't have any idea what I'm talking about. Makes explaining things easier if they really don't. What I was referring to there though was that if you had those on the inside and outside of two of the pipes, (The split ring type) it would create the needed threads to give it the half twist lock open. A spot of weld or something inside that would prevent it from untwisting completely.

Did I ever follow up on vehicles which would fold up and be easily carried? (On our world) I've seen a go-kart which folded into a briefcase, a bicycle which folded up, and I just saw a hot air balloon with a lawnmower engine. In a nutshell, powered neutral buoyancy. Whole thing looked like it would fit into a footlocker when stored. Did I ever follow up on that? Solar or muscle powered is preferred, but not required. Alcohol powered would work too. I can make alcohol.

Probably jumping the gun, but should I find an alcohol powered vehicle, get a book on whiskey distillation. A blacksmith could build a still with his eyes closed.

"From scratch" originated with racing, where a line was scratched in the ground at the beginning of the race and all the racers began from that line. It came from that to mean starting from the beginning, and thus in making things making them without any partially prepared ingredients.

I am not understanding why this prayer would be a new use.

I'm not certain how you would identify a good weapon from a weapon of quality, particularly as you have no skill in the use of the weapon in question. I can tell the difference between a cheap alto saxophone and a superior one (I've done so) by playing them (or by reading the labels, sometimes), but that's because I have skill in saxophone. Although I muddle through on trumpet, I doubt I could tell a good trumpet from a cheap one.

I am not understanding how the lock washers are supposed to accomplish your objective, unless you mean to bend them open sufficiently that they slide between each other. Both then would have an inside diameter equal to the outside diameter of the inner pipe and would have to be spot welded in such a way that the welds did not block the space of the opening or prevent them from meeting. Such welds would be inherently weaker, but it might work. Am I at least grasping what you're envisioning?

I remember you saying you wanted such a vehicle. A computer search reveals that there are hundreds of available designs which can be ordered by any of dozens of stores in the mall, including battery powered two- and three-wheeled collapsible vehicles, systems that use small internal combustion engines which burn a variety of hydrocarbon fuels (including alcohol) powering everything from a collapsible three-wheeler to a small ultralight aircraft, and other variants. Describe what you want, and we'll see how close you can come.

--M. J. Young

I am not understanding why this prayer would be a new use.

Then it's not. I just had to ask. Either it was or it wasn't. I was just asking you.

I'm not certain how you would identify a good weapon from a weapon of quality, particularly as you have no skill in the use of the weapon in question.

Ah, but I DO know quality blacksmithing work. I can be extremely obsessive about things like this. I can be quite a perfectionist. If it isn't a 51 but not a failure, he isn't happy with the blacksmithing.

(Wheedling, pleading tone of voice...) "Aw come on MJ, are you sure there are no bonuses for careful work????"

(If not, it's cool, really, I just hope you can imagine that as funny as I can.)

I am not understanding how the lock washers are supposed to accomplish your objective, unless you mean to bend them open sufficiently that they slide between each other.

Pretty much, yeah. My character is there, he's got access to the tools and stuff. Maybe he would know a better way to do it. Maybe there's a part he can find that I could never think of sitting here. Just with the knowledge that I have sitting here in my apartment, that sounds like a good place to start, although my character could have a million and one better ideas.

I had a household tool which extended and screwed open like what I'm describing. It had threads inside the handle. Maybe my character has access to something which would do that, I don't know. That's probably what I would look for if I can find it. I'm just saying from here, inside my apartment, the modified lock washers seem like as good a place to start as any.

Let me think on the collapsible vehicle for a minute.

Can I get threads on the inside of the pipes? It was a toilet plunger, the handle extended telescopically, and there were threads inside which screwed it to the inside of the other handle piece. When collapsed, it screwed together at the bottom. I wouldn't install that, but can I get something like that here?

Mistake

John, when you ask if something is a new use and I say i don't know why it would be, that's the cue for you to tell me what it is that is different about using it this time as compared with every previous time you used it. I did not say that it was not a new use; I said that I did not know any reason for it to be so. That might simply be because I don't remember the previous circumstances in which you used it so I don't see how this time is different. It does not mean it's not a new use.

You can certainly thread the inside of a pipe. My concern with this design is that it would not open with a snap of the wrist or something--you would need two hands to undo it. That, though, might be inherent in the twist design no matter how you do it, as you could not rely on it untwisting with a snap of the wrist.

There is a difference between quality blacksmithing work and a quality weapon. I'm sure you can recognize that a gun might be made of the best quality metal and wood with a well-oiled mechanism, and still be badly balanced and not shoot straight. You can also understand that someone with no skill in using guns but with skills in working with metal and wood and machine parts could make such a gun and not know it was a bad design. Many people make good violins but none rival Stradivarius. When we're talking about quality weapons, that's what we're talking about: the Stradivarius, the one that most professionals envy. O.K., the Stradivarius is the extreme version of this, but you can see that simply using all the right materials and copying the pattern is not going to mean you made a Stradivarius. (And for what it's worth, not all Stradivarius violins are equal in quality, although all those which survive are truly excellent.)

So without professional skill in weapon making you have no chance of making that kind of quality weapon, and without any skill in weapon use you have no chance of knowing that you've failed to do so.

--M. J. Young

Concerning the question of whether extra care in the manufacturing process will give you a better chance of success, I think the answer is yes, if you take a month to construct your device very carefully, honing and weighing and measuring each part individually to the perfect balance and tolerances, discarding parts that are less than the quality you want, you will gain bonuses in your chance of success.

--M. J. Young

You can certainly thread the inside of a pipe. My concern with this design is that it would not open with a snap of the wrist or something--you would need two hands to undo it. That, though, might be inherent in the twist design no matter how you do it, as you could not rely on it untwisting with a snap of the wrist.

I'm not sure you're understanding what I'm saying. I'm not talking about carving threads onto the pipe itself. It would be a second piece, welded onto the pipe. The toilet plunger that I had extended, and there were two threaded pieces inside that meshed together. It would be taking the place of the rings I originally had in mind to hold the pieces together. I never saw what it looked like.

So without professional skill in weapon making you have no chance of making that kind of quality weapon, and without any skill in weapon use you have no chance of knowing that you've failed to do so.

When I made those two silver knives, you said that if I rolled a 51 or higher on making them, they would be weapons of quality. I have no skill at using knives, apart from kitchen use, and the first one was my fourth new use, if I recall correctly. What's the difference between that and this?

You said "Without professional skill in weapon making" You've also stated that if I focused on weapon making it would be 1@10. So, just to throw a monkey into the wrench, suppose I created a 1@10 weapon making skill, and had 4 new uses right now. (Tell me I can't put together 4 different weapons in an afternoon.) Would I then have 2@1 weapon making and be able to do it? And I could legitimately see my character doing that. As you said, he's got limited skill. He would want to make a few things he didn't really care much about before he tried to make something he would be trusting his life to. Just to throw a monkey into the wrench, could I do that?

I won't give you four new uses in an afternoon for creating four "different" weapons.

First, the weapons would have to be similar enough that they would fall into the same category of weaponmaking--blunt weapons and edged weapons do not fall into the same category.

Second, "new use" is based on the notion that you suddenly had some abrupt insight into the techniques involved in a skill and did something you had never previously imagined possible. Simply making four differently shaped blunt weapons probably does not give you a single "new use" by that understanding.

As to the knives, I obviously made an error in your favor at that time, and I won't withdraw it now.

--M. J. Young

I think I am not understanding how it is you want to fit the pieces together. I understand that they telescope. You are apparently thinking of welding lock washers inside each outer pipe and outside each inner pipe to act as stops, but how that works is not entirely clear to me.

--M. J. Young

Regarding the four new uses, I wasn't expecting to get that, I just had to ask. No harm in asking, right?

I think I am not understanding how it is you want to fit the pieces together. I understand that they telescope. You are apparently thinking of welding lock washers inside each outer pipe and outside each inner pipe to act as stops, but how that works is not entirely clear to me.

What I'm looking for is threading. On that toilet plunger that I had, it was a set of threads on one piece, which connected to threads on the other piece. The smaller pipe ran through the threads on the larger pipe. A coil on the smaller pipe, colliding with and screwing into a coil inside the larger pipe. Does that make more sense? I sure hope so, because I'm not certain how I could explain it any better.

Don't forget the bonus blacksmithing prayer. It's not a new use, as far as I know (Unless doing it inside a different home counts as a new use) After that, get to building the baton.

What all happened when I got to 2@1 boxing? I get 2 attacks per turn, and I hit harder? Is that it? Is there anything else that happens? How much harder do I hit? Any increase in defensive/offensive sit-mods? Just wondering. Do we have any choice in the matter? (Probably one you don't hear often) Could I perhaps take a penalty of some sort to gain something else? One attack per turn, for a doubled defensive sit-mod? (Who cares how often I get to attack, if they can't hit me at all?) Just curious how that works.

Two coiled springs would twist together, would they not? The stopper/twist design is something like that.

Just to be clear, am I completely incapable of building a weapon of quality?

MISTAKE

(Doing Therapy)

An amateur violin maker cannot build something comparable to a Stradivarius. A professional might. It's that simple.

When you reached 2@1 you got a damage category bonus and an attack multiplier bonus. "Hit harder" is oversimplifying. You are now better able to get around defenses and land the blow where and when you intended. Thus you can take advantage of the opponent moving into the blow, hit the vulnerable spot more precisely, and lose less of your energy to glancing blows.

I think I get what you're trying to do. I don't see how it would open without using both hands to unscrew it, and I don't see how it would lock without using both hands to screw it--and that goes in both directions.

From what I see, you would have to draw the short stick, twist it far enough counterclockwise to disconnect all the pieces, pull it to full length, and twist it counterclockwise to get the pieces to lock in the open position. Then to close it you would have to twist it clockwise, collapse it, and twist it clockwise more.

If there's some reason this is not true, let me know.

--M. J. Young

Not true. Professionals built the Titanic. Amateurs built The Ark. Not a serious argument, more for a laugh.

If there's some reason this is not true, let me know.

It's not true. Three pipes. Biggest outside pipe, threaded at the top, NOT at the bottom. Second middle pipe, threaded outside bottom, to mesh with threads inside first pipe. Second middle pipe, threaded inside top. Third, smallest pipe, threaded outside bottom. It only screws together and open when it's extended. The screwing to keep it closed is just a threading on the cap. That's a half twist. Once that is undone, it would flip open. To keep open when fully extended, a pull and twist would lock all of the threads together. And yeah, it would take both hands to screw open, but that would be kind of optional. I can still hit with it, whether it's screwed open or not.

Is this/can this be my first new use on my 1@10 weapon making skill?

Does that second knife count as a new use on a weapon making skill? Probably not, since I got the new use on blacksmithing for the first one. It's another one of those "Just thought I'd ask" kind of questions.

What all would qualify for new uses? It's a weapon making skill. If I blacksmithed a musket, would that count? I've actually seen a video of how that's done. Right now, it's all weapons, but at the 3@ it would be specialized. Probably blunt instruments.

If I use the weapon making skill, it's rolled against a 1@10 score, isn't it? I know the 2@1 is 21, and the 1@10 is only 20, that I can live with, but is there anything else I should know about?

I just want to be clear on that encumbrance rule. You said 76 pounds without a strength check, if I recall correctly. Does that mean if I were to pick up the Mossberg shotgun (est. weight, 8 pounds, 5 for the gun, 3 for the ammo) whilst wearing the VSP, it would be a strength check? That would kind of limit my effectiveness. What if the pack is tied to your body? Like have a rope running from the pack to my ankle. If take off the pack, is it still considered on-person? It's tied to my body, after all.

(Doing Therapy)

Noah worked on the Ark for a hundred years. By the time he had it built, he was probably an expert.

Oh, wait a minute--are you holding the big pipe or hitting with it? That might be what's confusing me.

The professional skill is in making blunt striking weapons, such as staves, maces, clubs, and such. New use would be identified by virtue of the fact that you thought of doing something that was not immediately obvious from all previous uses. Most of those standard designs are immediately obvious. You'll know a new use because you'll say you hadn't thought of that before, and I'll agree that at the time you made the first weapon you had not considered that you could use the skill to make whatever it is you made that was the new use.

The expert skill would be limited to a particular kind of blunt striking weapon. At that point, things like balance are critical, and your expertise is in making (for example) a mace that is exactly right.

If you are carrying maximum encumbered weight and you pick up a penny, you must make a strength check to be able to take any action, such as walk. Since you've got the weight strapped to you, it would not be your arms but your legs that would be overtaxed, and failure would cause your knees to buckle. It's the straw that broke the camel's back.

--M. J. Young

Oh, wait a minute--are you holding the big pipe or hitting with it? That might be what's confusing me.

Three piece telescope. I'm holding the fat end, and hitting with the skinny end you put your eye to. It would be like inch and a half diameter, to inch and a quarter, to inch as they extended.

The professional skill is in making blunt striking weapons.... The expert skill would be limited to a particular kind of blunt striking weapon.

I didn't realize it specialized that quickly. I figured it would be professional is in making hand to hand weapons (as opposed to ranged weapons) and expert would be blunt instruments. Is there woodworking in the weapon making skill, or am I just limited to metal for the moment? Might have to look into woodworking next chance I get. I probably can't combine wood and metal to make a single weapon. (Or can I?)

Suppose I made a sword. Would that be a new use on Weapon Making, bladed weapons? Mr. Smith and I built that crossbow. Would that be a bonus on ranged/projectile weapons? Too bad it couldn't be a retroactive new use....

If you are carrying maximum encumbered weight and you pick up a penny, you must make a strength check to be able to take any action, such as walk.... It's the straw that broke the camel's back.

Makes complete sense. I've kind of been a victim of "The straw that broke the camel's back." What if the pack is tied to your body? Like have a rope running from the pack to my ankle. If take off the pack, is it still considered on-person? It would still be connected to my body.

How long would it take to get to 1@10 strength from my current 1@9, carrying this thing all day? Also, how much could I carry then? If you're not enforcing the encumbrance rule yet (I'm not quite done revising the pack) then I can still pick up anything I want in this world, right? So if we get into a gunfight, and I get the MAK 90 from my room, it doesn't count until I verse out? (Easy to explain, adrenaline rush in the last world, now gone) Just wanted to be clear on everything.

Build the baton.

(Doing Therapy)

Two Posts

I just want to know, how long is the baton going to take? How many days? I think you said one roll. I guess that means one day? This thing is going to lose a little bit of length at each joint, courtesy of the spring lock design. What did I say? Eight to twenty-four inches? Probably more like twenty-three inches, if it really matters.

If it matters, I'm using threaded pipes. You get a stronger weld on a rough surface. You can't get much more rough than threading.

Oh and ya know what else? The butt end of it has a removable screw cap. It would be a great place to hide something that I didn't want scanned by a metal detector. "It's not a weapon officer, it's a blind man's cane."

The end pipe also has a screw cap welded to it. The screw cap fits the largest pipe. That's how I'm planning to screw it closed to carry. It wouldn't have to be perfectly centered. There would be a bit of (literally) wiggle room in the pipes.

(Doing Therapy)

You can do it in one day if you do nothing else that day but work, eat, and sleep. It will take you about six to eight hours to do everything you've described. If you spread it over three days, you can probably get in most of your regular training and activities.

--M. J. Young

I did it again--wrote the post in two places, and posted the second part first. Here's the first part.

It's a bit tricky combining woodworking with metalworking. It can be done as a weaponmaking skill, and in theory you can make your weapons out of anything, but if you're using a skill that's clearly lower than that of your weaponmaking skill I will probably roll for your ability to do that. Thus you could make a club out of epoxy, but we'd roll your skill for using the epoxy first to see whether you manage to do what you want with it, and then roll for the weaponmaking to see how good a weapon you make. We don't do that with the metal in your case because your metalworking skill is already at least as high.

Crossbows are tricky because they're actually machines, but yes you can develop skill in making crossbows. And swords and knives are in their own class, separate from "bladed" weapons like axes and adzes.

If you're going to carry a heavy load constantly as a weight training program, it will take about half a year to increase your strength one intensity at level one. It technically requires "at least 120 hours of concentrated activity" "over a period of about two hundred days" "performed on a regular schedule", which comes to "three hours out of every five days" over that period of time. Referees have some room to adjust for programs that should work, but you can't shorten the time it takes overall, unless

  1. you have a teacher or trainer
  2. the teacher must have the attribute at the next level, although a trainer can have it at the same level
  3. you must complete the hundred twenty hours within the hundred days
  4. unless the teacher/trainer makes a successful roll, in which case you complete the improvement with only half the program.

I would have to say at this point that you don't know whether being attached to the pack by a rope would count. Lauren would not know that, either.

--M. J. Young

I would have to say at this point that you don't know whether being attached to the pack by a rope would count. Lauren would not know that, either.

I don't think ANY verser would know that, unless they knew the intricacies of the weight limit rules. Since this is, in effect, my most prized possession, I would expect it to come whether it was on person or not. How WOULD a verser know that? The only way a verser would know that would be if something which they didn't want came just because it was tied to them.

EDIT:Doing Therapy for edit.
A verser could know that if they were carrying something heavy like this, but only if they versed out with maximum weight every time, and kept track of it. Calculated and predicted the 10% increase, and increased equipment weight accordingly. They would have to know (and have) maximum weight, otherwise, there would be doubt if it was within their weight limit to take.

If they had a 76 pound bag of rocks tied to their foot when they versed out, yet that as well as all of their other equipment still came with them, that's about the only way I think they would know. They didn't even want the bag of rocks, it just came because it was tied to their foot when the Mafia Don threw them off his private yacht. Circumstances like that are probably not that common among versers, so I don't think very many would know if tied was on person.

You asked "How would I know?" Well, that's about the only way ANY verser would know, so how about answering my question? (Said with a hearty laugh)
END EDIT

You can do it in one day if you do nothing else that day but work, eat, and sleep. It will take you about six to eight hours to do everything you've described.

Well, I'm doing this right after work. Six to eight hours would be about how much time I've got left. I invited Lauren and the others to observe as their metalworking lesson. If Lauren insists, she can give me the psionics lesson before I get started, but this is consuming the rest of my day. I think since I'm focusing more on boxing, I would have dropped out of OkyDoky Smokey class a long time ago. If not, I'm skipping today. The psionics lesson is the only thing which I would even consider doing, so let's get it done.

Two Posts

Oh yeah, and don't forget the bless blacksmithing prayer, mentioned earlier in the thread. Would doing it in a different home count as a new use? Another "Just thought I'd ask" question.

(Doing Therapy)

It's still difficult. Some versers could tell you that if you're driving a car it will go with you but it won't necessarily go with you if you're not driving it; others could tell you that they know versers who take cars with them whether or not they're driving them. Lauren knows something about increasing weight limits from talking to Paul and Annie in NagaWorld, but not even they would know that it increases 10% per world or starts at exactly two hundred pounds--only that versers start with different amounts of equipment but apart from the stuff they carry they usually don't have more than about two hundred pounds with them initially, and over time they collect more.

But I don't have to answer the question because 1) it is hypothetical, not happening now and 2) there is no way you could know and 3) that means I don't have to decide yet, so I won't. In particular, I want to note that if I said yes you would make the decision to tie the bungie to your belt based on that information, and if I said no you would decide not to do so, but either way it would be based on out of character knowledge, so by not answering I guarantee that whatever you do will be based on in character knowledge and I won't have to disallow the action because of out of character knowledge. So you'll have to decide based on what you already know, not on what you think I would tell you.

I won't give you the new use on the prayer for doing it in a different home, but I will give it to you for using it to teach yourself a blunt weapon making application.

By the end of the day you're exhausted, and your first attempt has been successful although a far cry from the vision you had in your mind. It lock open with a twist, stay closed with a cap on the end (which I think must attach to the outer piece by a small cable?), and reach twenty-two inches from back to tip when fully extended. You've never used such a weapon, but you've built one.

"I SPENT ALL DAY BUILDING THIS PIECE OF JUNK!?!?!?!?!? To the trashcan with you!!!!"

First though, teach myself how to use it, by smashing something with it. If the work is as shoddy as I imagine it to be, the baton should break pretty quickly. I'm in a scrap yard. Finding something to smash should be easy.

I no longer have a collapsible baton.

Go to the weapons dealer before I sack out.

"Hey Mr. Weapons dealer guy, do you have/can you order detonation cord? What about a Tech-22 pistol? I'd also like to get an AK-47 mounted M-203 grenade launcher. Do you have/can you order any guns which double as belt buckles? These are sold as novelty items where I come from."

Detonation cord. Explosive rope. You saw Terminator Salvation, right? When the chick throws the spool of rope into the minefield and then blows it up, clearing the mines? That was detonation cord. You cut off a piece which is as long as you want to blow up, apply an electrical charge, and BOOM!!! Supposedly, wrapping it around a tree and setting it off will cut the tree clean as a whistle.

A Tech 22 is a full auto 22 caliber pistol. It takes the Ruger 10/22 magazines. 25, 50, and 100 round magazines available, (on our world).

Again, Terminator Salvation. That big, single shot pistol that John Connor was using? That's an M-203. They can be mounted on the underside of rifles (usually an M-16) or used by themselves as a pistol. I would think it would be covered under my explosive driven slug thrower skill, but you're the referee. We've established already that they sell grenade launchers. Do they have any like this? Fires 70mm grenades. All different types.

And no, I asked if I had ever seen concealed weapons. I didn't ask him if they could order them or had them in stock.

After that, go to bed. When I next post, it should be the next day. What day is it?

It's never come into play yet, but I know my character still talks to himself. He isn't psychotic anymore, but that's a habit I know I'm never going to break. If you needed a plot device having him get approached by security for it would be a good one to use. He won't react violently unless he feels threatened by them. Threatened with arrest, or otherwise. Unless they actually try to take him into custody or restrain him, he probably won't do anything.

And ya know what else? You were right. I would have decided exactly what you said based on OOC knowledge if you answered my question about the pack being tied. I never thought about it like that. Good call on not telling me. (Bet you never thought you'd hear a player say that, huh?)

I'm inclined to think not. We've established some time ago that they sell fully automatic weapons and grenade launchers in the main gun store. It was a roll done a long time ago. I'll look for it if you really want me to, but I hope you just take my word for it. Remember, all of this is primitive by their standards. This would probably be at the low end of what these people consider "modern".

I've bought hand grenades, so I don't see why detonation cord wouldn't be on the menu, and the concealed guns, as I said, are novelty items. Not paramilitary at all.

I didn't buy fully automatic weapons or grenade launchers before because I have no skill in such weapons, but it suddenly dawned on me that this is probably the last world I will be in for a while where grenade launchers will be legal to the public. Better to have the gun with no skill than to not have the gun at all. I asked before and changed my mind. All of this type of thing was readily available when I started the world. (I mean come on MJ, the gun store was one of the first stops I made.) Everything I described, except the concealed weapons, were readily available then.

Whilst at the gun store, I'm also looking for a special shotgun that I read about in a magazine some years ago. This might actually be somewhat low high tech by their standards. It was a pump shotgun, one barrel, two magazine tubes, each holding 6 or more shells if I recall. Total of 12 or more rounds. The gun could be set to select which tube the shells came out of (Shredders in one side, 00 buck in the other) or it could be set to alternate the tubes every shot. It had a bull-pup stock design (the action is inside the stock) which made it incredibly short and lightweight. (With the action inside the stock, it only weighs as much as the action. There is no weight for the stock) I bet this gun might be considered low-tech modern to them.

Twelve gauge. (MJ, I don't think you realize how hard an 8 gauge would recoil. I wouldn't want to shoot one.)

"Mr. Gun Dealer guy, can I get one? Oh please, can I?"

If we're specializing, my driving would be 2@5 cars with automatic transmissions. That's what I did my pizza driving in.

Be sure to mention this in your reply, so I know if you saw it or I need to repost.

If I don't trust my players, I give myself a lot more work. I will grant the grenade launchers and fully automatic weapons; describe what you want in detail. The detonation cord and concealed guns are special order, though, take a few days to get. I'll also give you that shotgun as you described it--sixteen rounds total. 12 gauge is good.

Your driving skills are listed as:

    2@5 Operate Vehicle (automobile) T8@0
    2@1 Operate Vehicle (CDL--trucks & heavy equipment) T8@1
The 8@0 operation skill indicates automatic transmission; the 8@1 skill is required for standard transmission, and is tied specifically to heavy equipment. That suggests that you would have a 1@10 skill at driving a car with standard transmission.

Good?

If I don't trust my players, I give myself a lot more work. I will grant the grenade launchers and fully automatic weapons; describe what you want in detail.

M-203 70mm grenade launcher, capable of being mounted to the underside of the MAK 90, or used on it's own as a single shot pistol. Let me think on what type of grenades for a minute. Is that covered under my explosive driven slug thrower skill, or am I going to have to teach myself how to use it? It's gunpowder driving a projectile, just a very large projectile. On the other hand, I've never shot anything like that. I could see it going both ways, your call.

The other gun is a Tech 22, 22 caliber fully automatic pistol which takes the Ruger 10/22 magazines. (The 10/22 might not exist, but the magazines would, if this gun does. I'd have magazines when I found a Ruger 10/22 is all) The magazines come in 25, 50, and 100 rounds. I'd like ten 100 round magazines with it. Ever seen Face/Off? Pollux Troy uses one briefly. Small gun, probably weighs as much as the 9mm, but a lot of firepower. Five rounds per second, easy.

The detonation cord and concealed guns are special order, though, take a few days to get.

100 yards detonation cord, and a 357 caliber double barrel derringer belt buckle. According to a friend of mine, the Nazi officers used something similar as a buckle for their coats. They get captured, they take off their coat, and they have a double barrel 25 caliber pistol in their hand when they unbuckle the coat. He described it as "A 10 feet away, get you out of a jam weapon."

I'd also need detonators for the cord. Almost forgot. Twenty detonators should do it.

I'll also give you that shotgun as you described it--sixteen rounds total. 12 gauge is good.

So I have the shotgun right now? Actually, it's 17 rounds (8 in each tube, one in the chamber) If I have that, then one side is loaded with Shredders (explosive shells) and the other side is loaded with 00 buckshot. Totally ruin someone's day with that puppy. Depending on how I have the selector switch, it would either take from one side or the other, or rotate between the two.

Good?

Exactly what I thought. Perfectly good.

Grenades

Lethal
Explosive (BIG BOOM!!!)
Armor piercing, explosive. (Smaller boom, but it will go through 6 feet of concrete first. Explodes when it returns to empty space, or stops moving if target penetration isn't complete. Shoot it at a tank, it goes in and blows up inside the tank, in other words.)
Explosive flechettes (Throws a spread of explosive darts. Like having Tony Stark's Jericho missile in your holster. Osevens gave me the idea. At 25 yards, it's a 6 foot spread of exploding darts. God help whoever is in the way.)

Non-lethal
Tear gas (Added bonus, if I actually hit the guy with the grenade, it's like getting hit with a baseball bat THEN the tear gas goes off!!!)
Glue (Like the grenades I have. Detonates in a shower of glue on impact)
Net gun? (Trows a fishing net, you see them in movies!!!)

And believe it or not, the non-lethal rounds are my priority if the roll isn't as good as I hope. I've got Shredders for ranged explosives. Tear gas I don't have. A bad roll would be they only have lethal rounds. Never thought I would see myself say that.....

Oh yeah, I'd also like to get a sling for the new shotgun. One which holds extra rounds. (If they have one which holds exactly 16, I'll be happy) Also, in Terminator Salvation, John Connor had that sleeve which held the M-203 grenades to his arm. Do they have anything like that? I think his held 4 or 5. Five would be good....

The new shotgun, the one I saw had a pistol grip, 20 inch barrel, and the bullpup stock. I'd say 30 inches total length, unloaded weight, 5 pounds tops. Loaded would add 2 pounds (I'm guessing 8 to a pound on shotgun shells) It's also not a Mossberg, or anything I'm familiar with at all, so my skill is 1@10, I guess. The Mossberg that I have would actually weigh more. It has the weight of the stock and the action. The bullpup stock, it's all in one. Cuts the weight down. Does it do pump or automatic fire? (That's a single option, pump or auto) In automatic fire mode, it fires semi-auto, if it jams, pump it once to clear the jam, and keep firing as a pump. Or you can fire it in pump action mode all the time. The Spas-12 used by the Terminator in Terminator 1 was like that.
