The latest upgrade seems to have brought back an old problem. When I log in to the articles side, it appears to log me out of the forum side; then when I log into the forum side and come back later to the articles side, I'm logged out over there.

Update: I cleared my Gaming Outpost cookies before logging in today. I was still logged out of both sides, but we'll see if it's different tomorrow.

Yesterday (after having cleared cookies previously and logging in to both sides) I was logged out of the articles side when I went there, and after I logged in there I was logged out here. I did not log in on this side, because I've been having a very difficult week. Today I was still logged in on the articles side but still logged out here. I've logged in here without any problems, but I'll keep you posted.

I'm having difficulty tracking down what the issue is this time. Your post about it above was a week ago. Is that when the problem started? Or was it before that? (I want to see if it syncs with anything I might have changed about the site.)
Okay, I messed with some settings (turns out the latest updated brought some wordpress/bbpress integration settings designed to make things work better together, but they needed to be manually adjusted), logged in and out of both places, etc., and it seems to be all working for me now. Let me know if it's cool on your end, too.
I was logged out of the articles side and into the forum side when I arrived. My user name but not my password appeared in the articles side login page (I had to look up the password, but I keep the file reasonably handy). I logged in fine there, and it did not bump me out here, so I'm guessing that you've fixed it.

Glad to hear it. Since this problem was caused by a code change designed to make wordpress/bbpress integration work better, I don't imagine the same issue coming up again.
Aaron Powell, you seem to be checking this. Why don't we have the ability to delete our own posts? I post sometimes and realize retroactively that it would be a mistake to post it. In those instances, I edit the post to say "Mistake Sorry" but MJ still has to waste his time looking at it. Since the whole point in editing it to say "Mistake, sorry" is to save MJ time looking at something not really worth looking at, deleting them myself would be so much easier.
On a different note, I used to have a girlfriend named Tracy Powell. She would be about 39 or 40 now. Any relation?

Unfortunately, I can't give people the ability to delete their posts without giving everyone moderator privileges. It's just a limitation of the software. Since MJ more or less runs the content things here in the forums, I'll happily make a moderator anyone he asks me to, though.
Regarding Tracy Powell, sorry, I don't know her. She might be a relation, but not one I've heard of.

The software that runs these boards is open source with a plugin structure, so there might be an easy way to add the functionality in. If you want to poke around on the support forums (http://bbpress.org/forums/) or browse their plugin database (http://bbpress.org/plugins/), I'll check out and (probably) install anything you find. (That goes for any plugins, too, so there might be some in there you guys think would be cool for other purposes.)

How about this one? Private Messages are a cool way to ask someone something off-topic without changing the discussion or having to create a topic for it. And that way we don't need to know each others e-mails if we just want to ask about something.

I'm not all that thrilled with having private messages; I know that there are some on the forum who would bombard me with private messages that would be better posted publicly. But I'm not against them (I warn now, though, that if I receive private messages that I think ought to have been public, I'll post them publicly.)
What would interest me, if anyone sees such a thing, is a preview mode for forum posts. It's a pretty common feature on most forum software, and kind of surprising that it's not standard here. I manage with the edit feature, but it does make me feel a bit stupid when my posts go up all wrong (usually a coding error) and I have to fix them while people are reading the mistakes.
No rush, though. Just, if anyone sees such a thing, that would interest me.

Regarding private messages: The plugin looks to be for an older version of the forum software (we're running 0.9 alpha and it says it works up to 0.81). I'll keep an eye out for a newer version and, if one shows up, then we can discuss the pros and cons of installing it.
Regarding a preview function: I looked for a plugin to do that and didn't find one. Again, I'll keep an eye out, though.
Regarding spell check: There don't tend to be many of them in newer forum software that I'm aware of, mainly because the feature is generally built into browsers nowadays. I know Safari does it automatically, as does Firefox and (I'm pretty sure) IE.
While that's possible, well--it would depend on the spellchecker.
There's a spellchecker in my Word 2000 that is very good--good enough that if I am not certain of a word when I am typing in a forum, I open Word and type it there first to see if it gives me an alternative. However, there are words that I confirm on Dictionary.com which are not found in the Word spellchecker, and there are words that I use in my daily work that are not found in it.
Indeed, it does have the ability to add words to it. However, for several documents I have written over the years, I have overflowed the limits on added words. Admittedly, this particularly happens when I'm writing my commentary studies, because the number of Greek words and the number of different forms thereof chokes the spellchecker pretty quickly. It ultimately shuts down and does not do an automatic check anymore; I spot check words for which I am not certain.
The spellchecker in my e-mail program gives me a lot more trouble. It questions common names, hyphenated words, and a lot more. On this site some of the "common" words we use include Cthulu, Alyria, Deadlands, Shadowrun, Magicked, Rolemaster, Dweomer, Sawtooth, and of course Multiverser, not to mention Gygax and Arneson--the tip of a vast iceberg, and I doubt I could get through a day without having to add some word to the spellchecker just for my own posts.
It would be easier for me not to use it. That doesn't mean the rest of you can't use such a thing (although I note that it won't help those who type "dose" for "does" or "were" for "where" or "hart" for "heart"), but it does mean that asking the moderator to update it is probably not the best choice--particularly since I note that the other moderator is currently attending law school and his posts and other written messages are impeccable, so he probably wouldn't waste time on a spellchecker either.

Sometimes I just cannot log in. Yet others seem to be able as they are posting. Is this enough to identify a problem? Today wasn't the first day. But I can live with it :)
Try reloading the page a couple of times. I've found that to be a Universal Bug Fix for little site glitches like that. I've never been able to NOT log in here though, unless the whole site was down. However, I've used that on different sites in the past.

Another typical fix: delete cookies. I hate it when someone tells me to delete all my cookies, because of course I have cookies for several sites that track information I need to have tracked; but with most browsers you have a manage cookies option that will permit you too go through and delete the ones you want. Find any for Gaming Outpost and delete them. Do not block them, because the site relies on cookies to identify you as logged in. When you return, the site should restore the cookies, and if there were errors in them this will correct them.

Sometimes that's the best you can do, however. Every now and then, for instance, I can't log into Facebook or Gmail. It usually fixes itself. Since this isn't a problem I can reproduce, it's unfortunately not one I have any way of fixing for sure and forever.

That's not necessarily so.
If the problem is that there's an error in one of the cookies, deleting the cookies and letting the site replace them is a genuine repair. It might go bad again later, but it would technically be a new problem (unless there was a problem with the site software itself that caused it to place bad cookies).

This was the second time I had it. And refreshing didn't help.
And I'm quite uncertain about deleting the cookies, because I'd have to dig up the password in my mail again. I hesitated to change it because Aaron had just deleted my old account which had blocked as I tried to change the password and the avatar. But I guess it was the avatar that gave the problems, since we use gravatar (as I found out later).
Anyway, I don't know how it could come.
