Hey John, I am up to your adventures in Dancing Princess, reading the bit when you met Pedro, and were trying to make a 'Bang Stick" with a spear and shotgun shell. I'm curious how much force has to hit the primer for it to explode, because it would probably be easier to fasten a shell upside down with wire on the end of the spear, such that when you stab them, the primer is set off whilst the spear goes in, and they explode from the inside. What do ya think? You're the gun expert.

You do realize if you did it like that, it would be pointed at you when it went off, right? Do you REALLY want a shotgun shell pointed at you when it goes off?
As to how much force it takes, I don't know. Except that those bang sticks are frequently used in the manner I describe for hunting sharks. Touch the shark with it, and you have a dead shark.
I was led to believe it only gets velocity from something within the gun, but that just goes to show how little I actually know about guns. That is, in fact, why I asked you, as you are apparently a gun enthusiast.
Well, it wouldn't get nearly as much velocity, but it would still have an ounce of gunpowder driving the pellets. At more than a few feet, it wouldn't be nearly as dangerous, but still, not something I'd want to mess with.
That's why you actually have to touch them with it. The shell explodes and drives the pellets into the target. At that range, they might as well have gotten shot.
A bit earlier, it took a post of mine an hour to appear, and the time since posting claimed it was 23 hours before-the same time as the post of mine immediately preceding it. Odd. Thought I'd mention it.
