I'm just curious about something. Suppose someone taught themselves a skill. Rolled it at 1@1. He practiced it 70+ hours a month, for 3 1/2 years. He has no instructor bonuses (in fact, he's the only person in the world who can perform the skill), no new uses, no double doubling no bonuses of any kind, actually. What would his SAL be in that skill? I'm just curious.
Oh yeah, and I'm sure there's a million and one variables that could be applied to this. Don't think about them, just go with the information given.

Three and a half years is 1,277 days and twelve hours. With no instruction, skills advance one mark per 100 days (given that at least three hours out of every five days are spent practicing). So, that's twelve marks, which puts him at 1@10|||. In another three weeks, he'll be 2@1.
He's practicing way more than he needs to, though.
Actually, once he hits 1@10 (900 days, which is about two and a half years), I might count ten hours a day as a single doubling of the program - doubling the time from at least three hours every five days to at least six hours every five days - and thus give him two marks on day 1000, day 1100, and day 1200, meaning he's 2@2|| at the end of three and a half years (and about three weeks away from 2@3).
But he's still practicing way more than he needs to be.
I agree with Scott. You're using a doubled program, but not a double doubled program. When you are still 1@ the program cannot advance you faster than the normal rate (one intensity every hundred days) so you're getting two marks a day and so advancing to 2@1 and each intensity beyond that in 200 days.
Over practicing is wasted effort under the rules. Until you hit the point that you're good enough to benefit from that level of practice, you don't get more benefit from the extra practice than you would from the ordinary practice. Itzak Perlman might benefit from practicing six hours a day, but Mary Jane Doe who just picked up the instrument this year won't benefit more from that than she will from the amount of practice her instructor prescribed.

That's what I was trying to determine.....
Would that fall under a P 1@0 Hypnosis? Autohypnosis, perhaps?
Well, I put myself into a low-grade psychotic state, and in that state, teach myself to control the episodes. I was just curious what my SAL at that would be by now.....
