This continues John "A1nut" Cross' game from John Cross in TerraTerraTerranova.
You are awakening. However, it is dark. In fact, it is so dark, your eyes are registering no light; your ears no sound. You smell nothing, taste nothing, and the only tactile sensations you have are that you are comfortable, warm enough, and floating weightless as you were a few minutes ago, with no sense of up or down and no points of contact.

Give me a minute to think on what else you said.
Two
The solar penlight is charged and in my pocket. Pull that out and look around. Where in the hell am I?
Did you just zygote me MJ?
Three.
You said no tactile sense. So I can't even feel my clothes? Am I naked or something? (Or did I just misunderstand you?)
I get it MJ. You wouldn't intentionally verse me out, but you figured (correctly) that taking Lauren out of the equation would make me do it for you. Well played dear boy!!
(Doing Therapy)
Actually, John, the minute you sent Lauren and CW in the other direction I knew that you would never make it--the scenario needs all the help you can get, and there was a factor you didn't recognize: Lauren has ammo for Derek's laser rifle that she doesn't need, and can swap power packs with him so that he can keep firing while she uses her other weapons. So you not only sent your best firepower in the other direction, you cut Derek's ammo in half and forced him to ration it.
So I did not intentionally verse you out, and I did not force you to do so; I just knew that you'd never make it through without help.
Notes:
House keys were duplcated; I deleted one.
My reading says that the Ruger holster has a pouch for a single spare clip; you said two. I'm right.
I gave you the intensity in Okydoky Smokey for finishing the twenty-fifth day of training.

High-tech (Terranova) Crossbow, It's a bottom lever action drawstring and a simple mechanical trigger mechanism to release the string. The frame is a lightweight material, something like plastic but extremely hard and not at all flexible. The bow is obviously a different material, flexible, only about twelve inches across but with tremendous draw power when pulled back. Quarrels sit in the track in a drop-in loading system, and there are clips along the right side to hold five quarrels for ready access, point down, fletching up. There is a flip-up cross-hair a pin sighting system that is calibrated for range and gravity. The drawstring seems to be a synthetic spider web. The bow twists ninety degrees, folds down, and slides parallel beneath the stock, making the entirey device twenty-seven inches long, three inches at the widest point, and five inches top to bottom. Collapsible .22 rifle with 6-bullet clip, barrel slides into stock, can't fire without extending barrel; rear of stock folds down and up flush over trigger guard, latching in place to either position; clip inserts into rear portion of stock, can be kept in place, but gun will not operate unless fully opened. 0:30 to open gun fully. Uses standard .22 ammo. Barrel does not unscrew but telescopes, slightly wider in diameter in extended end than in stock (shortens range). Think of it in three sections. Center section has trigger mechanism and chamber; stock folds around to cover this, partly hollowed, also has part of feed mechanism to hold bullets and feed them to chamber when in open position. Barrel pops out from other side. Completely collapsed it approaches rectangular, barrel extension flush with side and other side has two relatively flat surfaces (bulge on rear stock meets indentation on the central section, pressure interlocks mechanisms, released by lever on underside). Release button beneath barrel unlatches lower section and allows barrel extension to slide out. It does not store spare ammo. Each section is about fifteen inches in total length, barrel extension shorter (has to stop before the hammer mechanism and have an inch or so inside when fully extended). 48" tip to back. Folded, 15"x~8"x~1.5-2", not perfectly squared in any direction. Floats in water, constructed almost entirely of polymers and plastics with some metal parts, made for survivalist use. lightweight, #3. Does not fire folded because ammo supply is in rear stock, partly intended as safety feature, to prevent weapon from firing when stowed.

The solar penlight is charged and in my pocket. Pull that out and look around.
At the moment you can't find the light. You can't find your pocket. In fact, at the moment you can't seem to find your arms.
It occurs to you that there's no particular reason to believe you have a body right now. Other than that you are at a comfortable temperature and seem to be weightless, the only sensation you have is that trace to your equipment, which right now is pointing in three directions.
Oh, and you realize that you are waking up again, so you must have fallen asleep.
--M. J. Young
My reading says that the Ruger holster has a pouch for a single spare clip; you said two. I'm right.
No, I am. I have 2 different 9mm holsters. One is a hip holster which carries a single spare mag, and the other is a shoulder holster which holds 2 magazines. I'm wearing the shoulder holster.
And why didn't anybody else speak up about that? Who appointed me the leader of that expedition? I thought it was Lauren, personally. I said what I thought we should do. They could have made suggestions. And I didn't mean it like you intentionally versed me out, I meant it like you figured that taking Lauren out would make me blow up the ship.
What happens when I try to speak? Can I hear myself breathing or a heartbeat? Am I just a brain in a jar now, as far as my body is concerned? This sounds like a level 2.5 DXM trip, except without the pretty colors.....
Pray silently to myself.
"God, what happened? Where am I? What's happening to me?"
And since it seems I've got (literally) nothing but time, pray until I get an answer. And I wouldn't be the least bit offended if God interrupted me. And since I can't do much else, I'm praying until I fall asleep, and starting praying the minute I wake up. I could spend months praying if nothing changes. Watch, the bias is probably too low for that to work anyway. My objective is to get those questions answered. If God wants to volunteer more information, I certainly won't object.
It occurs to you that there's no particular reason to believe you have a body right now. Other than that you are at a comfortable temperature and seem to be weightless, the only sensation you have is that trace to your equipment, which right now is pointing in three directions.
And I'm freaking the hell out.
I'll look over the character sheet later.

Military Surplus Sleeping Bag
Actually it's a TerraNova sleeping bag
holster for a Ruger P-89, has pouch for single spare clip
No, it's a shoulder holster with 2 pouches to hold 2 clips.
1 tool box, red painted steel sheet metal, containing complete ratchet set, 2 ratchets, 11 screwdrivers, 2 pair of regular pliers, 2 pairs needle-nose pliers, 1 soldering iron, 1 solder removal tool, 1 roll of solder, 2 pairs wire cutters, 2 crescent wrenches, 1 hatchet, 1 box of 3 inch nails, 1 roll duct tape, 1 utility knife with 4 changeable razor blades, leather work gloves, a complete set of Allen wrenches, 2-AA battery flashlight, voltmeter, wood saw, multi-tipped screwdriver, complete set of wrenches. weight, approximately 25 pounds.
It's actually more like 10 pounds, I sold a lot of the tools to the scrap dealer. I'll have to check my sheet to tell you what.
Wristop, a computer with a terrabyte of memory and a terraherz processor that fits on your wrist, displays through a flat screen similar to those on the walls, and can interface with most known systems via internal wireless modem.
I forgot about this. I'm actually wearing it, if that's OK with you, that is.
You still have the cigarettes listed. Those got smoked a LOOOONG time ago. The MAK 90 magazines are all loaded. You had them listed as empty.
(sarcastic laughter) Putting my equipment 10,000 miles away wasn't good enough for you, was it? You not only took away my VSP, you also took away my body too.
(Doing Therapy)
No, I am. I have 2 different 9mm holsters.
Which is why we have these character sheet discussions; that wasn't on either list that I had, so I didn't know it existed. The change has been made, and the other holster with the pouch is in the "Distant" grouping.
And why didn't anybody else speak up about that? Who appointed me the leader of that expedition? I thought it was Lauren, personally.
Neither Lauren nor Derek were thinking about whether Derek would have enough ammo when you split up, so neither of them would have realized that Derek could supplement his ammo with hers. No one knew what was happening, and your suggestion that the group split up to do both tasks as quickly as possible was perfectly reasonable given the lack of data. If there was a single enemy on this ship, it is probable that either pair of you could handle it and certain that the other would never encounter it. The problem is, it was crawling with beasties. Neither you nor anyone else could have known that, so your call was a potentially good idea that proved bad under the circumstances.
As far as who made you leader, well, let me take that behind the screens.

What happens when I try to speak? Can I hear myself breathing or a heartbeat? Am I just a brain in a jar now, as far as my body is concerned?
Good questions, and good possibilities. You cannot find any way to speak, and you have no sense of breathing or heartbeat.
You begin praying in your mind.
You realize that you are not praying, and then realize that it's because you just awoke. You start praying again, but then realize a few minutes later that you are just awakening. You don't seem to be able to remain conscious for more than a few minutes at a stretch, but at least the praying makes you cognizant of this.
*****
Back to the character sheet.
Good catch on the psi bias.
I'm guessing it's a Terranova Military Surplus Sleeping Bag? Or was there a different sleeping bag, and if so where is that now?
Please get back to me with the current contents of the toolkit so I can update it.
I'm fine with the wristop being with the local stuff; I was surprised you hadn't included it.
I'm assuming that you mean the 100, 50, and 30 round MAK magazines (not the other 8 magazines which are loaded), and that the 180 bullets in them come off the 1000, so you've got 820 left there, yes?
I figured you'd used up the cigarettes, but I didn't want to delete them all without checking. After all, cigs were available in Pearl Harbor, and probably would have been supplied to you along with food, drink, and clothing, as one of the necessities of life for POWs.
*****
As far as taking away your body, well, I was going to drop you into this scenario as a sidekick to the hero much later, but then I decided it would be much more fun to make you the hero. It's got a lot of things you will particularly like, I think, and a lot that will definitely challenge you, so I am really pleased with this choice.
Your VSP will get good use, I assure you, and you will also be reunited with your other gear before you really need it, so don't be too worried about it.
Oh, those equipment vectors keep changing direction, seemingly at random.
--M. J. Young
Neither Lauren nor Derek were thinking about whether Derek would have enough ammo when you split up, so neither of them would have realized that Derek could supplement his ammo with hers.
So in other words, given the situation, it was as good as suggestion as any. I don't feel quite so stupid for that now.
I'm guessing it's a Terranova Military Surplus Sleeping Bag? Or was there a different sleeping bag, and if so where is that now?
Does it matter if it's military or civilian issue? I had another which was a military sleeping bag, picked up in the first world. That one would be more or less disowned, as in I wouldn't care if it didn't come, since I have this other so much better sleeping bag on me.
I'm assuming that you mean the 100, 50, and 30 round MAK magazines (not the other 8 magazines which are loaded), and that the 180 bullets in them come off the 1000, so you've got 820 left there, yes?
Some of them were listed as being -17 bullets. They are all loaded to full capacity. If it makes any difference, the MAK 90 actually has the 100 round drum in it, and the 50 round mag rubber banded to it.
I figured you'd used up the cigarettes, but I didn't want to delete them all without checking. After all, cigs were available in Pearl Harbor, and probably would have been supplied to you along with food, drink, and clothing, as one of the necessities of life for POWs.
Those listed were smoked in Dancing Princess.
Your VSP will get good use, I assure you, and you will also be reunited with your other gear before you really need it, so don't be too worried about it.
That's a relief....
Oh, those equipment vectors keep changing direction, seemingly at random.
So I'm not only disembodied, I'm spinning in every direction, or the world is, or both. What are the vectors? Do they come from up, down, the sides, do they spin around me in a circle, or are they spinning in a spherical pattern, like an electron cloud?
You realize that you are not praying, and then realize that it's because you just awoke. You start praying again, but then realize a few minutes later that you are just awakening. You don't seem to be able to remain conscious for more than a few minutes at a stretch, but at least the praying makes you cognizant of this.
You're not getting out of the open-ended prayer that easily. I said pray until I fall asleep and start again when I wake up. Just because I can't stay awake for more than a few minutes is no reason to rescind that. If you REALLY need a time frame, then roll it against how long I am awake, and have God answer me whilst I'm dreaming. If it's a failure, then falling asleep is the change in circumstance, so keep rolling til I make it or botch.
Two
MJ, even though I'm reasonably certain you won't answer, I'm going to ask anyway. Is this The Zygote Experience? That's the only thing I can think of which would explain this. That means very little for the rest of the story, which can mean I grew up anywhere or anywhen, so I don't see how it could hurt to tell me. I'm pretty sure you won't, but I just gotta ask.
Weightless, warm and comfortable, just like I would be in a womb, my equipment vectors change as mommy moves around, and of course, since at this point I'm just a fertilized egg, I'm just a consciousness without a body. I know you won't answer, but I have to ask.
Oh ya know, I just had a thought. If you have a friend who is pro-abortion, run them through The Zygote Experience, don't tell them what it is, then have them get aborted. I bet you would change a lot of minds that way.

Soon, I am going to pull up my copy of my sheet and compare it to your copy. It' something that will take a while, so I'll try to do it tomorrow.
(Doing Therapy)
Um--noeww. Either you specifically disowned it or you did not; since it's "more or less", you did not, and you now have two sleeping bags. That one would be more or less disowned....
The vectors are not changing rapidly, but then you are not constantly aware of them, either. Sometimes one changes gradually while the others stay the same, sometimes two move rapidly but in synch with each other while the other stays the same, sometimes all three move slowly. Also, since you're only staying awake for a few minutes at a stretch, it's more like each time you check they're in a different position. And there is no rhyme or reason--sometimes one will be up and another down, or all will be up or all down, or at odd angles to each other. It could be that you're floating in space or in an ocean, and your equipment is just out of reach floating around you.
Your efforts to get God to answer that prayer do not succeed.
I can't answer your question, but I can suggest that you might be a disembodied spirit disoriented in a physical world, or a nearly crippled body in a liquid healing tank, or adrift in some sort of realm like a sensory deprivation tank with anesthetic in the liquid. I will concur that the hypothesis that you are a zygote would explain everything you already know, but 1) it is not the only possible explanation, and 2) I do not know whether your character has ever heard about the zygote experience (unless Lauren mentioned having heard of it happening to someone, which she might have done since she was at Umak Tek and they know about both di Vars and Whisp experiencing it). But if neither she nor the Architect mentioned it, you probably don't know about it.
--M. J. Young
Um--noeww. Either you specifically disowned it or you did not; since it's "more or less", you did not, and you now have two sleeping bags.
What I meant was that I wouldn't mind if it didn't come. Is that what you have as my equipment, or is that everything that came? I have a lot more stuff which would have still been in my room. Do you need me to post it all? I know that you decide what comes and what doesn't, I think that neither fair nor anything even remotely realistic from what I know of how Scriff works, but that's the way it is. I'm pretty sure I'm overweight. I have more stuff which was not listed. I'll post the list of everything, then you can go through it and decide what all comes. I was simply telling you that if you decide to cut the other sleeping bag, I wouldn't lose a moment of sleep over it.
So the scriff vectors are going all over the place. They're not stationary in relation to each other. That means they're moving. I could be stationary or I could be moving, but I know the scriff vectors are not stationary. Since they change so rapidly, I'd have to conclude that the gear which was on the station is much, much closer. Otherwise, it would be moving consistently much more slowly. Granted, I can't tell which one that is, but is as good a theory as any. (Or can I tell which one it is?) If it was thousands of miles away, it would be consistently moving more slowly than the others. Anything close would be moving faster, anything far away would be moving more slowly.
If I were moving around right on top of the on person gear, it would have a similar effect, but the vector on the station would still be consistently in the same place. If I were tumbling, again, similar effect, but they would always form a triangle. If I were moving around them, it would have pretty close to this effect, but I'd have to be moving pretty frigging fast. Plus, two of them would always be close to each other. They're moving. The only other thing which would cause this exact effect would be if they were in three distinct locations, and I was moving haphazardly around them. Given the known distance of at least one of the points, I can dismiss that as a theory. Speaking of which, it's unfortunate that you can't tell distance. They could be moving forward and back as well as around me. I might be moving or I might not be, but I know for a fact they are. Until I have reason to conclude otherwise, I'm going to assume that I am stationary. It kind of takes away a little bit of the freaking out to think that I'm not moving against my will. So I've got three electrons in orbit. I always did like that concept of the electron cloud. Electrons must have a wild time spinning around like that.
Your efforts to get God to answer that prayer do not succeed.
I prefer botching with magic, because at least then it wasn't my fault. Psionic clairvoyance. Try to see what's right in front of me. Six inches away from my starting point. New Use?
I also noticed that you didn't roll for it or even mention it Behind the Screens. Just curious why. Magic bias is probably too low.
I can't answer your question, but I can suggest that you might be a disembodied spirit disoriented in a physical world, or a nearly crippled body in a liquid healing tank, or adrift in some sort of realm like a sensory deprivation tank with anesthetic in the liquid.
Or in an alien abduction scenario and pumped full of hallucinogens, or a host of other things. I just thought I'd ask, even though I knew you wouldn't answer. Now that you posted, I'm pretty sure I'm not a zygote, or the vectors would be stationary in relation to each other.

Full-sized synthetic backpack with lightweight polymer frame can carry 240 pounds in a six cubic foot interior , 3'x2'x1', with a maximum enclosed diagonal (for an object running from opposite corners through the center of the pack) of 3'9". It weights 2 pounds

Your clairvoyance does not work.
You realize that you are weakening--as if you've gone quite a while without food, but that there is no sensation equivalent to an empty stomach. You feel paradoxically that you are growing and shrinking, that you are consuming your body fat to feed growth or healing somewhere.
You still have that feeling of drifting.
I am impressed by your analysis of your scriff vectors, although you missed a few possibilities.
--M. J. Young
So I can't pray, psionics doesn't work, as far as I can tell, I have no body, and therefore, couldn't use a tech device even if I had one. What else CAN I do? Not much, so I guess I'll just wait and see what happens.
I am impressed by your analysis of your scriff vectors, although you missed a few possibilities.
Like what?
I've noticed a pattern. I learn a ton of psionics in the first world, so naturally, my next world is flatlined. I learn a ton of psionics in TerraNova, so naturally, THIS world is flatlined. What gives with that?
As it happens, high psi worlds are relatively rare in my world collection; you happen to have visited an above average percent of them. Honestly, though, it's really pretty random--I think, "This would be a good world for John, and it's different from anything else he's done and very different from anything else he's done recently, so that's where we'll go." Once I've made that decision, I check the biases. I can see the possibility that I might say, "No, that's two high psi worlds in a row," but really I'm much more likely to do that with tech or mag, which are the big gorillas that wrestle for control of a world, psi generally appearing or disappearing without much reference to them. (Sometimes a high tech world is high psi, and sometimes a high mag world is, and sometimes either of these can be flatlined psi. What's really rarer is a world that is high in both tech and mag, and even then the chance of high psi is completely random. Alyria and Krull are both high in all three, although in those worlds different groups tap different bias areas.
I spent several hours on the character sheet information I already had. I'm going to let you do the comparison and get back to me with
- Anything I have listed that shouldn't be listed;
- Anything I don't have listed that you thought you had somewhere; and
- Anything listed for which scores or values are discrepant.
Meanwhile, you're still floating, and still feeling like your energy is gradually depleting, even though you feel like you are growing or healing or something at the same time.
--M. J. Young
Meanwhile, you're still floating, and still feeling like your energy is gradually depleting, even though you feel like you are growing or healing or something at the same time.
Well, there's still nothing I can do about it. Either I will survive it or I won't. (OOC As far as my character knows, there are no psionics here at all. Maybe the psionic healing would help, but he would have given up on psionics at the moment.) If this is going to be a long, drawn out process during which I'm just sitting here letting it happen, why not speed it up a tad? I know he's freaking out, and I'm getting really intrigued, to say the least.
I'll get with the character sheet soon. It's just one of those things you kind of have to be in the mood to do. Probably tonight, now that I have motivation to do it.
About the psionics, that probably sounded a bit more rude than was intended. It's just the most fun I have had the entire time playing was messing with the psionics in the first world. Even some of the botches were kind of cool, after I got out of them, that is.

I'm almost positive I would be overweight. Do I even get to give you my thoughts on what should come and what shouldn't? How Kyler did it was drop most of the ammo. (I had more than weight limit just there) I wouldn't mind if the collapsible 22 didn't come (that was for VSP Version 1, I'm wearing version God only knows) Can I at least give thoughts on it? The things I'd like most of all are clothes, money and most of the guns. If you have clothes you won't freeze, if you have money you can probably get what you need, and if you have guns, you can most certainly get what you need. I'd really like that Mare's Leg shotgun to come. If that's the only other shotgun that comes, besides the one that I have on me, I'll be happy.
How is that handled?
EDIT, what would be my weight limit coming out of there? I've got 74 pounds on me, and the limit increased 10%, maybe I'm not overweight. Your call, but I just wanted to give you some thoughts on it.
(Doing Therapy)
I remember discussing the "Act Psychotic" SAL; it stands as is. Remember, your character is not psychotic; he only remembers what it was like when he was.
Mare's Leg shotgun (bought but never picked up)
Some special shotgun ammo (bought but never picked up)
Detonation cord and detonators (bought but never picked up)
These items were being delivered from various points in the galaxy. There are thus three logical possibilities:
- They were delivered to the station, possibly to the dealer, but are not with your other distant gear despite being in roughly the same direction, and are yours.
- They are yours, but they're no where near you or the station, being in transit across the universe somewhere and thus yet another equipment vector which might annoy you until you decide to disown it or manage to cross space looking for it.
- They are not yours and did not come with you--which is entirely possible given that the supplier might think that the product remains his until he receives payment on delivery from the middleman, and so you've got a contested ownership situation.
Your current verser weight limit is 292# or 0.14 tons.
Obviously you can give me your preferences on what to keep and what to throw, but it only makes my job harder--now I have to roll a GE roll and factor in both what you think you want and what you would want if you knew what I know about what is to come. But I'll give it consideration.

I remember discussing the "Act Psychotic" SAL; it stands as is. Remember, your character is not psychotic; he only remembers what it was like when he was.
No, it doesn't stand as is. How many times do I have to tell you? Psychotic IS NOT a synonym for insane. Acting psychotic is what I was doing all of my life. Acting insane is a completely different skill. I acted psychotic, people beat me up. I acted insane, people didn't. It's two completely distinct skills. All I'm asking you to do is change the wording from "1@5 act psychotic" to "1@5 act like a crazy person" The latter being the accurate skill description. I'm not arguing about the SAL, I'm arguing about the name of the skill description.
And there is no way on God's green earth you can convince me that I don't have 3@ skill at acting like a psychotic. That's never come into play. If that ever does come into play, where I am acting like a psychotic, it's a 3@ score. There's no way you can tell me it's not. I'm talking about 2 different skills here. The first is acting different from normal, that's the 1@5 act like a crazy person. To act like a psychotic, which would fool a doctor, is a 3@ score, but I don't have it since it's never come into play. If I landed in Why Spy, and they needed someone who could infiltrate a mental hospital, THEN we discuss my 3@ act psychotic score. Acting like a psychotic would be to fool a doctor. Acting crazy would be to fool everyone else. See the difference?
There's no point in discussing it until and unless it comes into play, as you keep saying. I just want the name of that skill changed to the appropriate title, and I just wanted to make my reasoning completely clear.
Mare's Leg shotgun (bought but never picked up)
Some special shotgun ammo (bought but never picked up)

I want them in order. That's the order that I want them in. I don't need the special ammo really, since I've got the other ammo.
Your current verser weight limit is 292# or 0.14 tons.
And since I'm wearing 74 pounds of gear, the entire 292 comes, for a total weight of 366 pounds.
Obviously you can give me your preferences on what to keep and what to throw, but it only makes my job harder--now I have to roll a GE roll and factor in both what you think you want and what you would want if you knew what I know about what is to come.
Figure it against what you know.
And what's going on with my character?

What I was trying to tell you MJ is that, as far as I am concerned, you can drop that second sleeping bag with no argument. As far as I am concerned, if you give me the Mare's Leg shotgun and a goodly quantity of ammo, you can drop the other two shotguns completely. I know nothing about the world. Maybe you know it would be better for me to have as many guns as I can get. If that's the case, then do whatever you think best. However, as far as I am concerned I'll be happy if the Mare's Leg shotgun comes. If you dropped the collapsible 22, but left my Marlin, I'd have no argument. I thought it would make the decision easier for you. I mean unless there's a reason I don't know about for me to have all of that equipment, there's probably 25-30 pounds you can cut right off the bat. My focus at the moment is the VSP. The Mare's Leg shotgun would be a shotgun I can carry, 4 shots. I can't even pick those others up right now. Might as well have as much firepower on-person as I can, at least until I get to where I can pick something else up. I thought it would make the decision easier for you. Do whatever you're going to do. I just thought that might help.
OK, this is supposed to be helpful and make things easy on you.
Mare's Leg shotgun
100 rounds (or more) ammo of each listed type (the special order stuff isn't included)
With that, the VSP would be complete.
MAK 90
All the 30 round magazines, (2 pounds each) the 50 round (three pounds) 100 round (four pounds) and perhaps a goodly amount of MAK 90 ammo
The other 9mm, and the other magazines
A goodly supply of 9mm ammo
my clothes
Precious metals and gems
This would be my high priority to take.
If that comes, I'll be a happy camper. I could almost certainly take much more than that, but those are my priorities. Do it however you would do it, based on what you know of the world. However, if that much there comes, I'll be happy. Everything else I think I would need is in the backpack. That's all I wanted to say on it.
(Doing Therapy)
I have crossed out the skill. If we can't agree as to what it is, there's no point to having it on your paper.
However,
I don't have it since it's never come into play.does not mean anything near the same as
There's no point in discussing it until and unless it comes into playbecause the aspect of discussing it means in most cases determining whether you already have it or not. That is, I might not want to discuss whether you already have some minor skill that doesn't matter at the moment--say, an amateur level at swimming--but that does not mean you do not have it. It means that I don't forsee you falling in the water over your head soon enough to care whether or not you can swim, but if it happens we'll be trying to determine how well you could swim before you entered the verse so we can figure out whether you're able to do so successfully in the present circumstance.
The equipment question has been settled. Sorry; it did not go either the way that you wanted or the way I'd have thought best for you, but that's what dice do sometimes.
It's difficult to know how much time has passed, but you sense some kind of change. You are still weightless, but now you seem to be tethered. You still have no information indicating limbs, and no sensory input, and you are still using up your fat reserves to power growth or healing of some sort.
You still cycle between brief periods of wakefulness and stretches of sleep which you cannot measure. You have no day/night cycle, no internal body rhythms (e.g., heartbeat), nothing against which to measure the passage of time. Yet this is change, and change means time, so you do exist.

Fair enough, it isn't likely to come up any time soon anyway. Regarding the thing I said about Why Spy. That was just something I was thinking would be really cool, and something you've likely never done before. There's some criminal in an insane asylum, and they need someone who could get in and talk to him. A guy who has natural expert score at faking a psychotic episode would be the perfect person for that. It was just something I was thinking about.
Sorry; it did not go either the way that you wanted or the way I'd have thought best for you, but that's what dice do sometimes.
When I versed into Dancing Princess, Kyler just did it without a dice roll. He decided what I needed and gave it to me. Is that just the referee's call how that is answered?

And there's still nothing I can do about it. Just sit back and let it happen. This would be a lot more exciting if I had clairvoyance.
What are my scriff vectors doing? Still just bouncing all over the place? Where am I tethered? Where is it tied/connected, and how as far as I can tell?
(Doing Therapy)

With my 2@4 Mossberg shotgun skill and my 2@ RSV, that means the damage from the explosive Shredder shells would be increased 2 intensities, right? Oh man, I hope that shotgun and some Shredders come.....
(Doing Therapy)
It's odd about that tether. It's as if you are at the end of a cord, or perhaps more accurately that you yourself are the end of the cord. You don't have a sense of being attached to it, but more that sometimes you are pulled by it, and sometimes you are caught by it when you are drifting away from some point, and sometimes you bounce off something. This is all in slow motion, really, because you are still floating.
The scriff vectors are more difficult. One of them seems to stay very active, moving through an angular space of perhaps a forty-five degree cone, that is, up and down, left and right, all around, but always staying to the same side. Since you are also drifting, the direction to that vector seems to change. One is sometimes stationary for long stretches, and then will sweep sharply and abruptly, sometimes one hundred eighty degrees. Rarely it shifts out of plane, but not more than ninety degrees, and when it does it usually remains stationary for an extended time after that. It has also been known to move more slowly in an arc, but again usually in the same plane, not in a cone like the first. The third is perhaps most interesting, because it will move in odd ways, but usually relatively smoothly. It will sometimes make very sharp shifts, but when it does this is almost always in the same plane and to the same degree as the second, and the first will in those instances usually remain considerably closer to constant. The other interesting aspect of the third is that every once in a while it splits, and then there are four, the fourth staying pretty close to the same position relative to you, moving only slightly within that vector, and then ultimately rejoining the other--you think it's the same one, but again you often lose track of these because of falling asleep and awakening again.

Yup, I'm a zygote.

That's the stuff on the station. It's always up and away.

That's my backpack I think. Sounds like Mommy is wearing it for long periods

And somebody keeps removing and replacing the magazine in the 9mm carbine. Somebody really close by.
Anything else going on I should know about?

I said what would happen if I was tumbling, moving, and if the scriff vectors were moving. I did not take into account what would happen if all of that was happening at once. That's why the vectors were all over the place. Now that I'm tethered, I've stopped tumbling, so the vectors stabilized.
(Doing Therapy)
Ah-hah!
Yes, now that you are tethered, the movement is a bit more stable. But what happens if the object to which you are tethered is itself moving? That was an additional potential complication before: you adrift inside a tank that was itself turning on multiple axes rather randomly in relation to equipment that was also in motion.
You are definitely receiving nutrients from somewhere, and you can feel your body strengthening, healing, and/or growing in some way.

Like, I don't know, a woman's uterus???? As a fertilized egg, I was spinning out of control, so the vectors were all over the place. Once I got my umbilical cord, everything slowed down.
You are definitely receiving nutrients from somewhere, and you can feel your body strengthening, healing, and/or growing in some way.
Well, let's get on with it!!!
Time continues; you feel yourself growing, although it is very tiring to do so and you are asleep frequently and awake for very short stretches. Again, you have nothing by which to measure time even when you are awake, and no way to know the lengths of your naps.
--M. J. Young
And there's STILL nothing I can do. MJ, I wouldn't mind at all if you wanted to speed this up a little.

For some reason (And I hope it's just paranoia) I keep thinking you're planning to bring me back as a girl because of everything I said about gender discrimination. If that is what you're thinking, I can tell you right now it's almost as bad an idea as sending me to Pearl Harbor was. I'll go along with whatever it is, even if I do come back as a girl, just don't say I didn't warn you.
Three
As proof of my paranoia, I am now convinced that you're going to verse me out because of what I just said up there. I just believe it would be a monumentally bad idea to bring me back as a girl, and under the First Amendment, I have the right to express that belief. I'll play the world, no matter how I come back, I'm just expressing my opinion about an idea that you may or may not have.
(Doing Therapy)
It seems a very long time, with many periods of sleep, before something is different. You are abruptly flooded with brilliant light, completely unfocused but very bright; at the same time, there is sound, muffled but constant, machines pumping liquids slowly and powerfully, and distant muffled voices. You cannot tell direction; it could be everywhere.
Despite the light and sound, you fall asleep again--which again you realize only because you re-awaken to the light and sound. This happens several times, and then the light fades and is gone, and you fall asleep and awaken many times, and then the light returns, and the cycle of sleep and wakefulness continues, with the light present for many times.
--M. J. Young
So I just developed eyes and ears. Cool.
Do I ever hear voices or language which would give me any clue to where and when I am? Listen for that. Try to hear and understand what the voices are saying. What are the scriff vectors doing? Machines pumping liquid, is that affecting me, or is it just something I'm hearing? Does it have any rhythm, like a heartbeat, or is it just completely random?
Concerning the voices, the primary one--primary because it is nearest and most frequent--is a somewhat low female voice. The others seem to be farther, and harder to identify--at least, if there are any others that are consistent, you haven't connected them.
As to language, I'm afraid that between the muffling of whatever divides you from it and the constant noise of the pumping what you're getting is somewhere closer to the teacher voice in Peanuts animated specials, "wah-wu-wu-waaah-woo-waa-wah" sort of thing. However, you do notice in your listening that it sometimes has a faster patter and other times a slower one, and that generally when the primary voice speaks in the faster patter the other voices respond in that same patter, while when it speaks in the slower patter they speak more slowly. It occurs to you that this might mean that the prime speaker is bilingual, and is switching between languages according to what the others around her speak.
To the noise, there is a relatively slow "thu-THUMP" in the background that might be a heart, but there are a lot of other noises, rhythmic whooshes, seemingly at the same pace as the supposed heart but out of sync with it. There are other noises, gurglings, squeals, rumbles, but these seem to be random. The presumed heartbeat--well, you can't say it doesn't move, because sometimes it's up and sometimes it's down and sometimes it's to one side or another, and sometimes it even seems to be drifting around you; but it's always in the same direction as the prime voice, and you still have some sensation of drifting, so it's entirely possible that it is you, not it, that moves.
--M. J. Young
1@2 Intensify Senses P5@1 by shifting sensory resources in the brain
Intensify hearing until I can hear the speaking. New use? And since it seems I have all the time in the world, keep rolling until I get it. Once it's on, consider it on in practice mode constantly.
You said it might be two languages. I took 2 years of French in high school, and I might be able to understand some of that. Other than that and English, I wouldn't know any other languages.
Wow, you must be in the only part of America where people don't hear strangers jabbering in Spanish very often. But I accept your point. I couldn't tell Spanish from Portuguese despite having heard both fairly often over the decades.
It takes you numerous tries to get the skill working, but when you finally do you manage to pick up the primary voice speaking English with someone, apparently buying food at something like a hamburger stand.
You fall asleep before you learn more.
Over the course of time, you manage to listen maybe a third of the time that you are awake, but most of what you hear is routine--travel directions, food orders, hotel or motel stops.
