The anachronism though is that you labeled the thread "A Historic Moment for a Nut." ("For" and "A" might have been caps, but that was the title) So, obviously, the idea that it /was/ a historical event must have crossed your mind at some point.

I believe in Constants in the Multiverse. Some of God's more perfect creations exist on every world. (Out of respect for MJ, I won't mention the one that I know of. But you know what it is.) Also, historical events will play out with constants. A military base called "Pearl Harbor" being attacked on December 7, on any given world means that, if the attack goes as planned, The Good Guys are about to defeat The Bad Guys. I believe that to be a Multiverse Constant.

The problem is that the Multiverser concept includes a hefty dose of chaos theory, in that it is inherent to it that no two worlds are exactly the same. To quote my favorite observation on parallel universes, from Holi of Red Dwarf.
Like, maybe in this universe, Hitler won the Second World War; or maybe it's something really weird, like, Ringo was a really good drummer.
You don't know that the world isn't going to be the same in ways that matter, but you do know that the fact that it is a different universe means, as Young's Theorem* requires ("Things which are not the same are different.") that it is going to be different. You might never find the difference--it might be, as in that great Sliders episode, the Azure Gate Bridge in California. Or it might be so different that the grass is orange and something that looks like a nerf ball is trying to talk to you by saying "boop", or the grass has been replaced with fire and the sky is always dark, or you are floating in something like space but viscous enough to let you swim, and there are planet-sized balls of lace drifting out here. But the concept is that no two worlds are identical; therefore, you cannot know that there is not some butterfly somewhere that's going to flap its wings at the wrong time so that the Japanese take out the fuel depot or the dry docks.
So your premise is fundamentally wrong. All worlds are different and you cannot predict them based on knowing your own history.
But you can easily be excused for not knowing that, even though you had just come from an historic world that demonstrated this: Columbus was different in 1995 from what you experienced.

Ah, but my theory still bears out. It /did/ have a constant. John Edward Cross was a resident of the city of Columbus Ohio.
I said there would be constants. Not what those constants were or how large they had to be.
And yeah, I'm well aware of the fact that the US might still lose. I didn't say the US would win. I said The Good Guys would defeat The Bad Guys. Perhaps on that world, the US is the genocidal dictatorship, and Germany is the emerging power trying to establish herself.
For that matter, who is to say the world /wouldn't/ have been better under Nazi rule? And I'm saying that as an imperfect specimen. A psychotic. They'd either kill me or experiment on me. Probably kill me /by/ experimenting on me.
Just keeping an open mind is all.
