You can't compare it to the show because it will fall far short; it's what, ninety minutes to try and convey all the information from what, four hundred minutes? That kind of math never works out well.

I didn't have a problem with the directing, personally; I think the writing failed and the casting could have used work. I would have enjoyed it greatly if it had focused more on the lighthearted theme found in nearly all of the cartoon's episodes and less on the computerized special effects.

I'm still going to see the second in the theaters; according to critical acclaim, I'll have the best seats in the house. =)

I WANNA BE A SMURF!!!!!!!

I AM PSYCHO SMURF!!!!!!!!!

THIS SITE ISN'T BEING VERY SMURFY!!!!!!

Well, I can read it. at last.

Well, I still wish I was a Smurf!!!!!! A community of 100 creatures with 100 completely different personalities who all live together in peace and friendship. Who wouldn't want to be a Smurf? I'd be Psycho Smurf.

You can't compare it to the show because it will fall far short; it's what, ninety minutes to try and convey all the information from what, four hundred minutes? That kind of math never works out well.

Yeah, you get the same kind of problem with screen adaptations of books. The people making the Harry Potter series had to keep a constant dialogue going with J. K. Rowling to make sure that they didn't cut anything that was going to matter in the books that had not yet been published. Even so, they had to split the last book into two movies to fit everything.

I'd be Psycho Smurf.

It reminds me of that old quandary: if heaven is the perfect place filled with perfect people, what makes you think you can go there without destroying it?

I'm not sure they need or want a Psycho Smurf.

Of course, Smurfs are after my time. The only thing I know about them was that there was only one girl. That strikes me as a problem.

Of course, Smurfs are after my time. The only thing I know about them was that there was only one girl. That strikes me as a problem.

That's not really a problem. The girl isn't a girl at all. She was made out of plastic explosives by the wizard Gargamel to catch the Smurfs. The Smurf reproductive cycle does not require females. Once in a blue moon, a stork brings a baby smurf. Smurfs have incredibly long lifespans, (Hundreds of years) so once in a blue moon is often enough to ensure reproduction. Is it totally pathetic that I know all of this or what?

MJ, I think I've got an analogy that you would appreciate.

A roasted turkey sandwich with hot peppers would be a valid thing to make for dinner. For anyone except you.

An immediate confrontation with an MP is a valid opening for that type of world. For anyone except me.

If you say it's a valid opening for me, I want a video of you eating a roasted turkey sandwich with hot peppers. It's every bit as valid as the confrontation with the MP.

John,
I use IE, and it suits me well enough.

It doesn't have spell check. That's all I'm saying.

MJ, have you seen the new Shrek movie? I don't want to spoil the movie, but it's got an element of time travel. Sort of. The past is changed by a magical means. It's also an incredibly popular movie. Might want to consider it for your next Examiner analysis. Probably have to watch all of the Shrek movies to do it justice though. Just a suggestion.

More than one

Look at it from where I'm sitting MJ. If you found yourself in the middle of a situation you wouldn't want to be within 50 miles of, and the only way you could get out of it was to commit cold-blooded murder, you COULD NOT PERSUADE ME that you would not feel forced into the situation. It's a great opening if the player is absolutely certain to get involved. Terrible for a non-involvement player.

Blast. Isn't this the fourth in the series? The first was tolerable--John Lithgow saved it, I'd say. But it's been too long, and I've not had any desire to see the others. I also certainly have no desire to spend money on buying copies of four movies so I can do an analysis of one of them, particularly given I've got seven or eight awaiting my attention, including:

  1. Premonition, really interesting and giving me a lot of trouble, but hopefully will start a week from Monday.
  2. Timeline, the Michael Crichton venture into time travel for which I get requests some time back.
  3. The recent Spanish one, of which someone in Australia is sending me a copy dubbed and subbed.
  4. He's also sending me four others, of which one is a Blackadder time travel special.
  5. One has a weird name like FAQ About Time Travel, but is apparently a British film.
  6. One is an old piece called Warlock.
  7. Turtles in Time has been requested, and is lying around here somewhere.
  8. Next is also still awaiting my attention.
I'm missing some of the titles, but in any case, I'll be working on time travel films for a while.

I can tell you right now it resolves into an infinity loop. The very premise of the time travel event is the undoing of the past. You didn't like Shrek? I'm surprised. You're probably not into the rude humor.

Blast.

That's MJ furious, isn't it? That's you cussing. I remember an anecdote with Mr. Rogers. The way you could tell he was furious is if he said "Oh Brother."

(Doing Therapy)

No, that's MJ being annoyed and a bit frustrated.

I received the new movies today. They're in the other room. Time Crimes is among them. If anyone cares, I can get the other titles.

OK MJ, here's one for you. My theory of divergents that suggests you could become a biologist. (Come on, humor me!!!) The thing you're forgetting is the "What Happens Next?" factor. You're assuming that, had you become a rock musician at the age of 20 or however old you would have been, you would have stayed in that occupation forever. I don't think I need to remind you that more than one hit rock star eventually settled down and became a "Normal Person" after they had their shot in the spotlight. So, you become a musician at the age of 20, you have a 20 year career, release gold album after gold album, and you're a household name. "What Happens Next?" Something happens to your career, it tanks, you become a "Normal Person." Can you say with 100% certainty that the MJ Young who lived that life wouldn't pursue a career in medicine? No you can't. You can't say that because you didn't live that life. You have no idea what influences could have happened to him.

You could imagine yourself a lawyer. So, you graduate Suma Cum Laude from Harvard or whatever at the age of 20 and have a successful legal career for 10 years. "What Happens Next?" Would that version decide to pursue a career in medicine? You don't know. You're assuming that the divergent path from your life will be forever. People change. "What Happens Next?" Wouldn't it still be your divergent if the lawyer pursued medicine later in life? A doctor and a lawyer. He could open his own clinic and never have to worry about being sued for malpractice. You could see yourself as a lawyer, beyond that, you have no clue. You have no clue because you didn't live that life. "What Happens Next?"

You must forgive me. I just think it's amazingly fascinating for being such a simple question.

After I became a rock star I went into producing records for other rock stars. It is, after all, a skill set I would have developed that would be rare and in some demand.

After ten years of being a lawyer, I would still be paying off my student loans. Seriously, I know doctors who are still buried in student debt after being in practice for two decades. It's an expensive profession.

That's assuming of course that you don't have a major, life-changing event that influences you to pursue a medical career. You said that I could never convince you it was possible. You will never convince me that it's completely IMpossible. I just find it unbelievably fun to think about. When I was younger, and people asked me what I was going to do when I got older, "Living on disability" was the LAST thing that would have come to mind. Here I am.

How about this for changing things in unpredictable ways? My interest in time travel had been waning for some time before I joined the forum game. It's entirely possible that if I had never found out about Multiverser, I would no longer be in your life at all. I would no longer be asking time travel questions. A blessing or a curse? You decide.
