I just finished watching Tin Man. It's a Sci Fi channel made for TV movie which is a reimagining of The Wizard of Oz. The "Scarecrow" is a former inventor who had half of his brain surgically removed. The "Cowardly Lion" is a beast creature whose will had been broken, and thus has no courage. The "Tin Man" however is the focus of this thread. He got the name for being trapped inside a tin coffin. He was in some form of suspended animation, because he was trapped in there for (at least) 5 years, but apparently didn't need to eat or go to the bathroom. His hair grew and he was conscious. The coffin had just a single window, through which the occupant was forced to watch a holographic recreation of his family being brutally murdered, set on infinite repeat. That was why he had no heart. Could you imagine that? Watching that over and over and over for years? I don't want to think about it. Torture seemed like a good game-topic, and that was kind of unique. I thought Eric would be especially interested.

The subject of torture is a tricky one in play.
I certainly include it in my games when all players are mature, and since my games generally approach mature subjects, my players are generally mature. Still, meaningless torture is, well, meaningless; any verser who comes across meaningless torture is bound to try to put a stop to it. The real bit of interest for me would be to put the torture implements in the hands of the verser and try to find out what it would take to get him to torture someone.
I remember that scene in the movie. Me and my ladyfaire talked about it. I'm sure it would have some very strange effects on one's mind.

I'm not as angry as I used to be (which is again, considerably less angry than before that). I'm not sure I could write the WAW's now because there was such an undercurrent of suppressed fury. Justice needs to be done...

It took them that long to notice that he wasn't aging? Sarah Connor's problem was that she kept insisting she was right. They're never going to believe you Sarah. Best thing to do is scream "TERMINATOR" for about the first six months, then slowly start "responding to treatment". Start saying "What's a Terminator?" She would have been out of there in a year tops if she had done that.

I just had a thought of how to mitigate the harm to the Tin Man in the coffin. Stay awake all night whilst it's dark. You can't see the holographic projection in the dark (Let's hope) then fall asleep just as the suns came up. (Two suns on that world) That would be, what? Sixteen, eighteen hours a day when you didn't have to watch it? Not sure if that would help much, but I thought I'd throw it out.

At one point, they ask him who he is, and he tells them he's the prisoner who's been there for 40 yrs....and they know that can't be true....must have misplaced the paperwork...gotta keep him here because he's crazy to think he's been here 40 yrs..

The way it was designed, he couldn't get his hands up to do that. I must say, the man was remarkably sane for someone who had been trapped in there for so long.

Current expectations for hologram technology involves the use of lasers to create 3D images. That means the images themselves are constructed of light, and like a television set would be even more compelling and visible in the dark.
I think I could keep my eyes closed most of the time. In fact, I think that I would be compelled to keep them closed. They might not work when I was released.

I'm watching Star Trek Voyager. Episode Ex Post Facto (After the fact, right MJ?) Tom Paris is accused of murder, and as his punishment, has to relive the final moments of his victim's life, on a 14 hour cycle. Every 14 hours, he gets a virtual reality kind of thing popping up in his head, where he relives it. That's along the same lines as the torture I mentioned.

Anonymous you know it's easy to look up what threads you've posted to, by clicking the member tag under the name? Was really easy for me to confirm you were the one who started the "How do I contact players" thread, which supposedly to reveal a criminal on the board.
We're a good community, and attempts to poison us against anyone isn't welcomed.
Yeah but Glantri, "Anonymous" means they aren't revealing identity. This could be an account that anyone with a computer can access. Just cuz it came from the account doesn't means it's the same person at the computer.

Sorry, I needed to clarify that I was saying no the second comment and I am saying yes to the first. Yes there's a dreadful person in your midst but since no one gives a flying fig then I'm not going to take it any further. About my "no" I was saying that his family doesn't deserve that kind of treatment.
Is there a reward for turning this "dreadful" person in? If it is five or six figures, I'm sure we would care. :P
I had someone contact me with something similar a few years back. They're position was that a particular individual had done something heinous to them, and they reported it to the police, and he was never arrested or prosecuted, but that this alleged victim wished to inform everyone that we are conversing with a horrid monster who ought to be ostracized by every human being since the law was not going to do anything about him.
Anonymous, I'm afraid you suffer from the fact that a lot of people post to forums making vague claims similar to the ones you've made that prove ultimately to have no substance beyond a grudge held by the individual. It may be that someone here has done something terrible, but if it were a provable criminal act you would have presented your evidence to the proper authorities instead of besmirching his character; and if you have done so, then either there was or was not sufficient evidence to convict, and either the individual did or did not pay the appropriate penalty. But it seems to have little to do with us.
