I didn't post because I am not at all certain what is happening here. Can you explain this better? I'm not sure who is talking, who is saying what, and what I'm supposed to do.
OOC: Well drat. He might not have reacted as strongly to such, although he probably would have reacted still. I'll remember that the next chaos mage you run into.
He (the Chaos Mage, Master Flame) blinks in surprise and asks a question.
"You made a weapon out of a precious metal?"
==============================
"Ah, yes," He (the blacksmith) looks unhappy at hearing later that you must leave. "You've been a good worker, you have." He scratches his chin. "Wife, get the man a packet of food!" He barks, and she nods, a tear in her eye. You can see he's not not mad at her, he's just trying to hold back his sadness.
He, Master Smith, writes you a letter and folds it up like an envelope.
"You can give this to Master Wrought in Carbondale up the coast, or to Master Ore in Falconsburg inland. They both know me. And both cities are free to Order Mages."
"Carbondale is more accepting of Order Mages." Master Flame, the Chaos Mage, says with a small, formal nod to you. "As you're aware, Chaos and moving water do not get along well. But in either place, you will have to cross the disputed border."
"If, you're done with your business, Master Flame, this is my place of business." Master Smith says. The chaos mage, Master Flame, bows, and leaves, taking the hint given him by Master Smith, a barely polite 'please go away'.
At this point, you can do whatever you want. However, if you stay in teh city for more than fifty more minutes, you're likely to be testing your ability to survive chaos fire. There is a road along the coast, not much of one, or you can take ship to get to Carbondale. Falconsburg has a better road over the hills inland.
The wife has given you a bag of food to take with you, and Master Smith has given you a letter of reccomendation to two other blacksmiths.
"You made a weapon out of a precious metal?"
Aluminum is a precious metal? I've got a roll of aluminum foil. How much do you suppose that would weigh? What's it worth compared to gold, copper and silver?
"Master Flame. Would it be possible to stay, now that you know my weapon is not 'black iron'?"
I'm betting no, but if yes, the rest is canceled.
Didn't Master Smith have a daughter he needed looked after? His health was failing as I recall. Lisbelle was her name, I believe.
"Master Smith, I told you I wouldn't be competition for you. I'm a man of my word. Would your daughter like to accompany me? I'm not promising marriage, not ruling it out either, but I'd be more than happy to look after her for the time."

Sounds good. Let's follow our toes.

Ten ounces? The smith tells you aluminum is worth about 3/4ths the price of silver, although some places itsmore and others less. But his eyes boggle when you show him the super smooth, ultra thin sheets of aluminum.
"Your weapon is not black iron, but it is an Order Device, and hence by the spirit of the law, forbidden." He stops explaining and orders. "You must leave."
That was Master Wood.
He looks startled, and then looks at your face.
"Ten years ago, I would have thrashed you, or tried to. But I see clearer these days. You mean no insult to a girl of a good family. My friend, I release you. You've done what you can, and aided me much. You cannot strive against the government. We will make do."
Do the toes go down the coast or inland?

Tear off a square and give it to him.
"If you can figure out how to do that, you will make yourself all kinds of money."

That's the mage.
"OK, I'm gone."
Do the toes go down the coast or inland?
Inland. I don't want to risk going overboard the ship with 100 pounds of dead weight strapped to my back.

You leave with your water bottles filled up, and soon enough you're grateful for it. The white stone highway that slashes razor like through the hills is even and steady footing, but its always got a thin coat of dust on it. With every breath, you get a tiny taste of limestone and earth. Its not so bad as to have you coughing.
You come upon a merchant with a small wagon and a donkey about three hours onward. He's carrying salted fish in barrels. His bodyguard gives you a close eyes look while the merchant asks if you'd like him to crack open a barrel and buy from him a nice foot long salted tuna.
Just keep walking. Don't pay them any attention.
OOC) Did I get my woodworking to 1@10?
OOC: Don't think so.
The merchant mutters, but his bodyguard hushes him.
You proceed onward, and every few hours you pass a merchant (some with a guard, some without), until its nightfall. You camp in a secluded spot by the White Road, and immediatey after you leave it, you feel better. The next morning, its the last of the bread and cheese Master Smith's wife gave you, and onward.
Two hours later, about ten in the morning, you see six cavalrymen in dark green uniforms, on horseback. They are standing about a couple on foot, questioning them

Stay on the path. It's not my concern. Keep walking, just pretend like I didn't see anything.
OOC) Then what is my woodworking at?
