Tad, ya know, a PB and J pizza does sound pretty good. Mix the PB and J together to make the sauce, and top it with sliced fruit. That does sound tasty.
sauces
152 Beef gravy
153 chicken gravy
154 turkey gravy
155 pork gravy
I could imagine a really tasty pizza made with different gravies as the sauce.
Oreo cookies are already on the list, unless we're counting crushed and whole cookies as 2 distinct toppings. I wouldn't, so I'd say we're up to 154.
Everybody, do me a favor. Don't post anymore until I post again. I am in the process of reorganizing the list to make it easier to find duplicates and to get a more accurate count. NO ONE POST UNTIL I POST AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!
This is a reorganized list. I think I got out all of the duplicates, but I'm not 100% certain. Feel free to redo the list yourself if you think you can do better.

Bravo. Seeing the applications of some of these would be interesting indeed. Although at some point I think it's going to end up "Well what if one topping was another pizza?" and the list will spiral into infinity from there.
Ooh, I like the categories. Thanks for organizing that! As we do numbering, are we adding new toppings to the end, with periodic reorganization, or is each person who comes up with new toppings adding them to the appropriate category and renumbering everything else accordingly?
155. (98?) Pears
156. (147?) Chicken Negimaki (marinated teriyaki chicken, wrapped around a scallion)
157. (?) brown rice
158. (?) white rice
No clue what category the last two would fall into, so I'm not even going to guess at alternate numberings. We've got herbs and starchy vegetables in with the veggies, so they might go there, even if they are a grain.
As I said Kelly, if you feel you can do a better list, you're more than welcome to.
That is not what Kelly said. She said you did a good job, and asked how you envisioned proceeding from here.
Kelly, I think the answer is we add to the end of the list and then reorganize at some future point. I agree that the categories are useful, both because they help track duplicates and because they create thought categories, ways to stimulate the imagination in various directions.

As I said Kelly, if you feel you can do a better list, you're more than welcome to.
That is not what Kelly said. She said you did a good job, and asked how you envisioned proceeding from here.
Yeah, I know MJ. The "If you think you can do better, do it yourself" argument does sound a wee bit insulting, however, I mean it in it's literal sense. I know I'm not perfect, if you think you can do a job better than me, have at it. Better finished product helps everyone.
Anyway, due to a cooking botch, I just produced 2 pizzas, and I believe we have new toppings to list.
1) Pita Bread crust
2) Ranch salad dressing as sauce
3) (Some other kind of salad dressing, I'll check later)
They were supposed to be microwaveable flat-bread sandwiches. I wanted to see what they would be like out of the oven. Ten minutes at 400 degrees produced 2 pizzas, a more than acceptable compromise.
Oh yeah, and just so you know. Pita Bread makes a pretty good crust, if you like it crunchy (which I do). Just a pizza making tip.
How about gingerbread, going with deserts, and maybe liquorish?
For the non-sweets maybe potatoes (sliced or mashed)?
Potatoes is on there a few times. Fried, baked, I think. Anyway, take a look at the list, and let's see what we can do.
I had gumdrops on a pizza once
Wow--that one does surprise me.

Why did this thread die? I really thought we were going to get to 497 or more. It died right after I made that comment about "If you think you can do better, go ahead." I see how that might have been taken as rude by some people, but I meant exactly what I said. If you think you can do a better job of organizing the toppings list, by all means, have at it. A better finished product helps everyone. If you think you can do better than I did, I certainly wouldn't begrudge you trying.
well, I will check it now and again and if it doesn't revive I'll allot some of my research time to esoteric pizza toppings-shouldn't take long, and toss some more in to see if anyone gets a light bulb over their head :)
I've seen some weird ones a month or two ago, but you forget on the way home, and besides the list is big. They'd stick in your memory better if the list was smaller.
However, breaking up the list into sections was a good idea.
I'll see what happens. Hopefully, I can help out a bit.
T
Here are some that sound like they could conceivably work on pizza. Yes, I researched what each one is before adding it ti the list. And yes, some of these are real long shots, but could still work.
Cheeses:
Feta cheese (healthy and low in fat)
Sardo cheese
Caravane cheese
Rubing cheese
Rushan cheese or nguri, which is similar
Suluguni or "pickle cheese' if you're really odd
St. Louisan Provel cheese
I'll get more later, there's a huge list of them.
Sauces:
pesto sauce
alfredo sauce
garlic butter
peanut sauce
marinara sauce
Worcestershire sauce
sour cream
taco sauce
Veggies:
capers
CRUSHED red peppers
bell peppers
green chili peppers
jalapenos
kalamata olives
bean sprouts
shaved carrots
avocados
Fungi:
truffles
Meats and fish:
Italian sausage
bacon
Herbs and spices:
basil
oregano
black pepper
chili pepper
salt
parsley
Montreal steak spice
Nuts:
cashews
pistachios
pine nuts
Oils:
olive oil
walnut oil
truffle oil
Fruit:
lemon juice
Other:
egg
corn chips
The other thing is that, if we're accepting variations on the same things (grilled chicken, fried chicken, baked chicken, etc) then we could do that with quite a bit of things. I put on baked turkey, we could also do fried turkey, grilled turkey. There's quite a few variations on things that are already up there, I just don't feel like going through and checking right now. However, someone else could and we could probably add quite a few.
Yeah, I just tried to make sure that I didn't add anything that was already there.
Well, sure, I could--and I admit I'm tempted--but it would delay me from getting to all the other threads.
I think, though, that it should look something like this:
Cheeses
Cheddar #21
Mozzerella #1
Ricotta #22
Meats
Bacon #14
Beef #6
Ham #15
Meatball #3
Pepperoni #2
Pork #7
Sausage, Hot #19
Sausage, Sweet #4
Seafood
Anchovies #9
Shrimp Scampi #12
Crabmeat #20
Vegetables excluding fruits and grains
Broccoli #11
Mushrooms #5
Peppers (bell) #8
Peppers, Hot #17
Peppers, Sweet #18
Tomatoes #10
Grains
Ziti #13
Fruits
Pineapple #16
In any case, the idea is to sort them into general categories but alphabetize them, and retain the original numbers as they were added to the list.
--M. J. Young
I was thinking of doing that AFTER I found all the toppings I intend to add, and putting the full list in there when I do so.
Like I said, if someone thinks they can do a better job than me, have at it. That sounds like a great way to do it MJ. I can't do it right now though.

I was in Wal-mart today and saw 'California Pizza Kitchen' (a new to me brand) with cilantro. Now, I'm over at their website in another window looking for more oddities...
1. Cilantro (already)
2. Chilled, shredded lettuce tossedi in Mayonaise
3. Avocado
4. Salami
5. Carmelized onions
6. Field greens
7. Caramelized pears
8. Fire-roasted mild chiles
9. Cilantro pesto
10. Side: (these would go with things like the Papa John's pepperocino's as a 'side'): tomatillo salsa
11. Side: salsa
12. Red bell peppers-roasted.
13. Yellow bell peppers-roasted.
14. Cucumbers
15. Lemon-herb vinaigrette (Weirdness...in their Greek pizza with the cucumbers)
16. Tzatiki sauce
17. Parsley
18. Thai chicken (marinated in spicy peanut-ginger and sesame sauce.)
20. Bean sprouts
21. Julienne carrots
22. Roasted peanuts
23. Baby brocolli
24. Japanese eggplant
25. Garlic
26. Cremini Mushrooms
27. Shiitake Mushrooms
28. Portobello Mushrooms
29. White Mushrooms
There are probably some dupes in that list (:. I think we can safely say that California Pizza Kitchen is odd.
Ya know, I just realized, the question isn't what could you put on a pizza, the question is what couldn't you put on a pizza? So you think it's gross and disgusting, well, people in India think eating beef is gross and disgusting. So, to this list, I'd like to add the following. (Hey, I bet SOMEONE put these on a pizza at some time!!!)
Dog meat
Cat meat
Pigeon meat
dolphin meat
moose meat
horse meat
What am I saying? Any animal which is made out of meat, could be a pizza topping!!!!! How many breeds of dogs and cats are there? I bet we could get to 497 toppings pretty quickly like that.
(Doing Therapy)
At one time, McDonald's was supposed to have put horsemeat in their burgers for a little bit. It got people pretty unhapppy.
Yeah, you always hear those things about McDonalds. The one they always talked about up here was kangaroo meat. People who work for McDonalds deny that it was ever anything but beef.
I've got some funny stories from the last Burger King/McDonalds war. Burger King decided to create the Big King, a Big Mac done by them. A friend of mine called to say he'd tried it, and it was very good--he said it was just like a Big Mac, only with meat on it.
I tell people that Burger King set out to beat the Big Mac and stealing the Big Mac recipe they produced the Big King, and they did it--they beat the Big Mac. McDonalds got pretty angry, and decided two could play that game. So they stole the Whopper recipe and produced the Big and Tasty, and they did it: they beat the Big Mac.
O.K., so I prefer Burger King. I still do eat at McDonalds, mostly because it's cheaper.

Kid's Playground, my friend, Kid's Playground. Or Hamster Trails for the elementary and pre-school set, and rest for the weary parent who is reasonably certain his kid is safe, not able to escape, and entertained without direct observation which lets the parent relax and read a book.
Interestingly, quite a few of the Burger Kings around here have those, although they are indeed more common at McDonalds--although come to think of it, one of the McDonalds around here does not have a playground, and I'm not certain of the other, but the Burger King across the street from it does not.
I agree, though, that the playground is a big deal for families with young children. The sticking point comes when you've got to explain to the oldest that he's not allowed on the toys with his younger brothers. Then it becomes problematic.
--M. J. Young
I had an absolutely amazing pizza yesterday. It was a Gyro pizza. The Gyro sauce was the sauce, it had lettuce, tomatoes, and Gyro meat on it, with the cheese on top. ABSOLUTELY THE BEST store bought pizza I've EVER tasted!!!!!! (Emphasizing, not yelling)
(Doing Therapy)
I was watching 'Extreme Pig-outs' with the Cuteasaurus, and they showed a Brooklyn chip shoppe that will deep fry practically anything, including pizza. So, take a slice of pizza, put a little flour on it, dip it in the batter, and drop it in the 425 degree oil.
So...
Batter-fried.
Day before yesterday I was at the doc's office as the Cuteasuarus had a fever (he's recovering nicely), and saw a box of Marshmallow Peeps in the office window. On its back it stated that people had used Peeps for pizza topping. So one more unless we've already done this one.
Peeps.
Second Post.
Lefan (my made up word), or cooked and chilled pizza.
What is lefan?
In the Breakfast: List post I tossed out the idea of pre-made 'leftovers' as breakfast. After all, in a culture where eating leftovers is the thing to do for breakfast, in a modern capitalistic society someone is going to realize the need for occasional bought from the store 'leftovers', even if they are not really leftovers. And they would need a word to describe this....thus 'lefan' which sounds sorta like leftover.
Let me add 'gluten-free crust'. You could have rice flour, or one of several other flours in the crust. Also a pure cornmeal pizza 'crust' (more of a super thick crust, a solid chunk of inch high cornmeal with pizza on the top) is another idea.
So...
Gluten-free
A. Rice flour
B. Some type of bean flour crust.
C. Cornmeal, pure
D. Not gluten-free cornmeal mixed with wheat flour crust.
Crust types
1. Thin
2. Chicago-style deep dish
3. Hand-tossed
4. Cornmeal
5. Cheese in the outer rim
6. 'Crackle'...this is super-thin, and baked to chip-like status. One eats a Crackle crust by breaking off bits of the pizza, and lifting it into one's mouth with the topping somewhat precariously on top of the variously random sized pieces.
One can either order a 'full pie' and generally eat out of the common plate, or 'sliced', in which case the whole pizza is cut before the crust is cooked because cutting it afterwards would shatter it.
I'm surprised that you have "Chicago-style Deep Dish". I'm not sure how that is different from "Sicilian", which if made right has a thick bottom crust but edges over an inch high and at least a half inch pool of sauce and cheese within. It's rather difficult to eat by hand while hot, although when it cools it is easier to manage.
--M. J. Young
I've heard it both ways, but mostly Chicago. I would not have remembered the Sicilian as a deep dish.
One factor is probably the Food Network which boosts the rivalry of Chicago and New York City. No one in America is going to much care about the rivalry for pizza supremacy between NYC and Sicily.
That might be. Actually, "New York Pizza" is called by Italians in New York "Napolitan" (I can't spell it, because it's pronounced "Nap'lee-TAHN"), but I think Pizza Hut pizza is called "Chicago style", and "Sicilian" usually has thicker crusts particularly around the edges, is almost always square/rectangular where Napolitan is usually round (although the "Party Pizza" is a bit uncertain as to exactly what it is, being made rectangular so it will completely fill the box after being removed from the rectangular baking sheet).
