@ the game Jhiaxus is running for Kyler
Mmmmmmm...Fallout...
BTW, why both a "Peanut Gallery" thread and a "Random Chat" thread? What is the difference? Dare I ask?
It was answered, but I'm not sure whether Oak saw the answer.
The "Peanut Gallery" is the place where people sit who are watching the live games and making comments on them, who aren't allowed to comment on the games in the game threads. "On topic" for it is anything that has to do with an ongoing game, or comments about other comments in the thread.
"Random Chat" is a thread specifically assigned for conversations about everything and nothing except Multiverser and Multiverser game threads. It's for birthday greetings, movie talk, discussions about current life situations--nothing serious enough to warrant its own thread. So technically, you're off topic there if you talk about ongoing games.
Clear?

Yes, yes. Pokémon have been shown to be intelligent creatures, and I fully intend to treat them exactly as indigenous lifeforms, and base their skill development very much on Brock's approaches to training them, if he chooses to go that route during his stay here. Their attributes, on the other hand, will be more dependent on a GE roll at the time of capture; Ash's Pikachu, for instance, started initially with a high ranged strike value, which accounts for the conception that its electric attacks are more powerful than those of other Pikachu. As, generally speaking, Pokémon follow their trainer by choice, there's a large potential to get some really wicked followers here if that's the route the player chooses.
It would be fun to sent a member of PETA to that world. See how they take to wide-spread animal fights being organized. :-) But indeed, some cool followers could be gotten here. Imagine riding that massive Rhino-like Pokémon in other worlds for example.
The problem would be that the government would be after you, trying to study this new creature. Of course they would need to dissect that electrical mouse to see how he does that!
Let them try; she's a verser follower, not a piece of equipment. =P
heh. You see Pikachu as female. Never thought of that. You also made me chuckle when Oak asks for his name because he forgot. Good and funny detail!
I don't recall anything about this. Should I be worried? :p
((19 GE Roll)) Probably.
@Nik in Eric's game. That was a cool dagger, all it wanted was a friend, I would have made it my friend :P
The problem would be that the government would be after you, trying to study this new creature.
Well, that's a problem in a lot of worlds--worlds in which you're the alien creature--but versers find ways around it, usually. I recall that Michael di Vars had a film career in one universe as the "monster from outer space", and the indigs all marveled at his make up.
--M. J. Young
hahah, nice!
@Adam, yeah, I figure, but how do you grab a dagger that paralyzes you before you can take it? :P
At Adam Running Kyler: Interesting world.
@ Nik, I would have run in there and put my hands on it and the plasma weapons and let it verse me out if it came to that :P
@ Nik, not right now it's not, but we will see what time will tell
I like the concept of the controlled situation and the lack of freedom. Wait, that's not right. I like how it challenges us and makes us make decisions. Compromise or jailing. And the jailing isn't much different then the controlled 'freedom', you get your three meals a day, only the space you have is significantly reduced. But freedom lies not in the amount of physical space you have. At least not entirely.
You know Utopia never lasts forever
I do definitely know that, and I'd like to be in full possession of my faculties when Utopia ends.
On the other side of it, a place where freedom of will is restricted is no utopia in my mind.

John...
Here's a botch list for making nails.
1. You break a few nails and waste some time.
2. You hit your thumb hard enough to seriously bruise it. Good chance you're going to lose a thumbnail.
3. You break the hammer's handle.
4. You let go of the hammer on a backswing, and nearly clobber a customer coming in to the store.
5. As 4, but you hit the boss who came back.
6. You drive nail into your own skin. Chance of lockjaw as it had rust on it.
7. You overswing and maybe hit your kneecap and split it in two. At a minimum, you're lame for a week. Worst case and you're lame for life.
8. You tip over some burning logs from the forge by mistake. Now the smithery is on fire.
9. Somone comes in on a horse, and your wild swinging frightens the horse who was there to get shooed. Now its charging across town dragging its owner by his boots which are tied in his reins. If really bad, this is Job McMorrissey who's a 'bad man to tangle with' and quick with a .44 Navy.
10. The pattern of nails you drop on the floor is that of an ancient spell to summon the Nailspitter, a major demon, who then proceeds to eat everyone in the state.
@ #6: Actually, tetanus isn't found in rust; it's found in dirt. Rusty items are often also dirty, so you have to get a tetanus shot after cutting yourself with something rusty; you also have to get one if you're bitten or clawed by a person or animal. I know a lot about avoiding tetanus because I'm allergic to the booster shots.
ah, I added that to the weaknesses on your char sheet Kyler :)
Not that your character is going to come into contact with them anytime soon normally.
No, it makes perfect sense. Tetanus is a serious thing, and I'm allergic to the booster shot; last time I had one, I broke out in a rash about six hours after and ended up spending the night in the hospital on a benadryl drip. I'm supposed to get a medic alert bracelet, because when you're cut in a car accident, they give you a tetanus shot just to be on the safe side, conscious or not.
@ Nikolaj run by Eric: You'd better watch out for the dessert spirits;
ghosts of strawberry shortcakes and hot fudge sundaes will come to get you...
@ Mike is A1nut's game; You go, Mike! Fight the power! Down with GM repression!
I think you mean oppression. Is it really such a bad thing that I wanted him to have all of the available facts before he made his decision?
I'm pretty sure I knew what I meant. You were pressing and repressing (not to be confused with the psychoanalytic term repression) your ideas for what you wanted to have happen on him. I don't think it was as bad as opression.
I do some hand holding from time to time, and put on the kid gloves once in a while, but when someone says, "No, I want to do what I said," I drop it the first time and go with their decision.
Gotcha. It was just one of those little things that wouldn't get out of my head. I wanted Mike to be absolutely certain he had all of the facts before he made his choice. Maybe I took it a little too far, but he's happy with his choice, and that's what matters.
hmmm, dessert spirits. I would be the one they are after, since I made a lot of them :P
Kyler,
I'm going to get you. Just so you know. :) And it won't be anything as sweet as a ghost of a strawberry shortcake.
John,
Yes, its Halloween weekend, and in a world where the Unseelie Court is active.
=P I look forward to it
Mike
@John running me:
Your second post served no real purpose except to try to make me feel foolish. It wasn't appreciated. Also, I don't feel foolish, even if you think I should.
Kyler
Yeah, I saw that, and didn't think it would be well appreciated.
A1nut was feeling frustrated because his world was pretty much over.
Kyler's right. First world I've ever ran, and a world I wrote no less. It was over too quickly. I was frustrated at that. I didn't want the world to end. (Who does?) Didn't mean to make you feel foolish, I was just explaining what I meant when I said "Flip the truck". That, and wishing the dice had been more cooperative.
I understood where it was coming for and wasn't upset. Just wanted to point out it probably wasn't a good thing to post.
Also a post apocalyptic world that's overrun with superpowered zombies and where a favorite pass time is hunting said zombies probably won't have a long life expectancy for versers early in their career.

I never thought of that. I had the world in my head, and I wanted to see how it would run.
I kind of wish you had pursued the storyline of the tree in the junkyard though. Angus loves nature, no matter what form it takes. He wouldn't want to do anything. Bill and Ted don't have to deal with it, so they don't care. Trees like that are how the zombie infection spreads. The vines wrap up anyone who gets too close to it and zombifies them. You may recall it smacked at the truck when Bill drove past. If you had wanted to call someone, it would have brought in a team of highly-trained botanists and scientists who are studying them to find a cure. Maybe Angus isn't the right character to introduce the tree. You might have wanted to pursue it if one of the NPCs had wanted to. I'll know better next time.
(Doing Therapy)
Two
And now that I think about it, that makes no sense at all. A sufficient number of trees to infect that many people would probably be common knowledge, not something an Amish farmer grew on accident by burying corpses. Oh well. Learn as you go, right?
(Doing Therapy)
It doesn't make sense when you look at it like that, but anything is possible in the verse.
John, you can always fudge the dice rolls if you feel it will make a better story. It is part of the GM's job to ensure the dice DON'T get in the way of the game. It's generally accepted that you only fudge the dice in the player's favor, though.
MJ, do you have a useful article related to dice and how they can upset the balance of a game? If you don't, I just may write one.
MJ never fudges dice rolls. If it goes terribly, oh well; generally it goes neutrally, sometimes you get lucky sometimes you don't, the better your character is, the better your chances of dealing when it doesn't go so great.
Brock, I did fudge the rolls once. I felt terrible about it. I felt like I cheated. I won't do that again. All I did really was reroll a bad GE roll, but still. It was wrong. It felt wrong, so I don't think I'll do that again.
(Doing Therapy)
10. The pattern of nails you drop on the floor is that of an ancient spell to summon the Nailspitter, a major demon, who then proceeds to eat everyone in the state.
Um--I don't think I would include a magic botch result on a tech botch unless it was true both that I was in a very high mag-biased world and that the production of the nails was in some way connected to magic. I won't say that's "just me" and I won't say it's the rules, but generally> botches ought to be consistent with the bias area in which they occur. (It's for the same reason that if you botch firing a pistol, you don't get butterflies coming out of the barrel.)
Tetanus is a serious thing, and I'm allergic to the booster shot; last time I had one, I broke out in a rash about six hours after and ended up spending the night in the hospital on a benadryl drip.
Just to note a technicality, it is not known whether you are allergic to the tetanus antigen itself or to the inert ingredients in the particular booster you got. There are ways to test that, but you've never been tested, as far as I'm aware.
Kyler's right. First world I've ever ran, and a world I wrote no less. It was over too quickly.
Which as someone observed means it's much too tough for a verser of that level of ability. That's not necessarily true--sometimes worlds end quickly--but it's probably true in this case. Matching player characters to worlds is an art, though, and takes some time to learn.

Brock, the nearest thing I can recall to that is the Invisible Dice article that's been cited in the Old Articles thread--oh, and also one called Ephemeral Illusion which talked about using illusionist techniques. (The links in that article have not been repaired to the new article locations.)
Kyler is almost right. I use to fudge die rolls in AD&D games at times--very rarely, but I hated to see player characters die and would try to avoid it. The thing about Multiverser is that ultimately there aren't really any "bad rolls". We say that there are good and bad rolls, but the good rolls mean everything goes your way and you're victorious, and the bad rolls mean we turn the page and start a new chapter in the story. So whatever happens happens, and I pretty much trust the system to guide me. Note, too, that stronger characters are less impacted by bad rolls, so bad rolls for weak characters generally encourage them to get stronger, and since death is not fatal eventually they do.

Paraphrasing a line from a movie.
"When I was 14, they gave me an allergy test. They stuck aluminum alloy needles dipped in different allergens into my back, to see which one's I was allergic to. The next day, my back was broken out. I was allergic to EVERYTHING. So, I didn't leave the house for the next 5 years. It turned out that what I was actually allergic to was the aluminum alloy that the needles were made out of."
(Doing Therapy)
That is true, MJ-MV allows for accepting the rolls far more often. I usually only fudge the dice to prevent total party killed scenarios, unless it is a climactic battle to determine the final result of a story or they did something REALLY stupid.
The roll that killed Mike was a 30 roll. That's a 1 in 1,000 roll, and it was the first time I had ever seen one rolled. I just wouldn't have felt right not playing it.
(Doing Therapy)
Hey Brock, I don't know if your character would go this way, but you could try to make Pikachu jealous. Something like "Oh, it's alright professor Oak, I'll probably find a better and stronger one to take." Or something like that. :P
