A guard standing inside asks you to leave your weapons at the door. Dawn asks him to do something involving his nether regions with your weapons. You smooth things over and explain what you're here for.
"I don't know how you got into Kingsland past border patrol, but you're under arrest, infidel," he tells you, drawing his sword.
I'll put my hand over his hand drawing the sword, stopping him. "You don't want to do that. We came here and are trying to go through proper channels to become citizens. There is no need to arrest anyone, no any need for you to resort to violence and get killed in the process. Now, try and be helpful this time, without being foolish. Whom do we speak to in order to become citizens without being arrested."
He says to you with indignance, "Remove your hand from me, vagabond. As you are not a citizen, you will have to wait in jail to argue your case before the council."
"Oh, I'll see a magistrate. But you have a better chance of getting pregnant than arresting me. And call me vagabond one more time, and see what happens to your candy ass. Got it, nancy boy? Now, exercise some manners, get us before a magistrate, and lie to your friends over drinks tonight about how tough you were today. Try anything else, and it will mean your demise."
I will say this loud enough so that people nearby can hear.
Another couple guards are walking over with swords up.
"Sir, we're going to have to ask you to calm down," they call out on the walk over.
"I will calm down, when this miscreant apologizes for addressing this good woman and myself as vagabonds. He was asked a relatively simple question which may have confounded him into such a boorish display of incivility. We are new to these parts and asked about obtaining citizenship status. This cur, immediately attempts to arrest us and throw us in jail like common thieves! If this is any indication of how you treat travelers and guests, we might reconsider the whole citizenship request. Now, perhaps you gentlemen will be more civil, and direct us towards the person we see about obtaining citizenship?"
"If you are illegal aliens to our country, you must be arrested, sir."
Dawn says to you, "Maybe we should go pay this Lord Orpheon a personal call."
"Agreed, blossom. By all means, let us do just so. I think it's time we are taken to see Lord Orpheon. Gentlemen, if you will be so kind, take us to see Lord Orpheon."
They don't seem to be willing to do so. Two out of three have weapons drawn and appear intent on using them if you do not cooperate.
"Which of you here is the best fighter? I'll offer you this deal. If you can disarm me, we'll go to jail quietly. If I disarm you, you take us to Lord Orpheon."
I'll draw my sword.
"We fight as a team," one tells you.
"A rope is harder to break than a thread," the other responds.
"How quaint. I fight as a piece of forged steel. So, if you wish to fight together, I'll snap you all like string. You want some, come get some."
You dodge their attacks with ease.
Your action for the round?
§
Good to see you back, been missing you here.
OOC - I've been here, but for some reason my post didn't move up until today. My last post was Friday.
I'll attempt to disarm all 3 of them.
doublepost
You snatch a sword from one of their hands and use it to disarm the other two.
The three guards turn to run deeper into the courthouse.
"Hey wait! You forgot your swords!!!!!! So I guess this means you won't take me to speak with Lord Orpheus?"
Guess we wait for the reinforcements to arrive.
Dawn says to you, "Why don't we take this outside, or maybe see if we can find where this Lord Orpheus is?"
"Very prudent thought, my love. By all means, let's."
We will go outside and ask the nearest person where we may find Lord Orpheus.
"In the castle," he responds, and motions to a medieval looking structure.
We will thank them kindly and make our way towards the castle.
You arrive at the outside of the castle; a guard stands here, and there is a portcullis blocking the entrance.
"State your business," the guard tells you.
"We are here to see Lord Orpheus. Would you please show us to him, kind sir?"
"Do you have an appointment?"
"No, we do not. How do we go about getting one?"
"You can set one up at the courthouse."
Dawn makes an irritated, exasperated noise.
Hmmm. "Let's go home blossom. Perhaps a night's sleep will give us time to come up with more options."
Dawn asks you, "Why don't we just go in? The 'people' following us will probably be here any minute, and if we can talk to their ruler, we might be able to do something about our situation."
She seems shocked that she'd have such an idea herself.
"Yeah I thought about that as well. Guess we'll give it a whirl, but I hope we can keep the body count down."
I will tell the guard, "We have urgent business that requires the lord's personal attention. Now you will please show us inside. I would for you to have to explain to the lord why you took it upon yourself to keep a potential benefit from becomming known to him."
(Hoping for a good persuasion roll on this one.)
He responds, "I, uh, I,"
Dawn interrupts him, color rising in her cheeks. "You would keep Lord Pharaoh from his urgent business with Lord Orpheus? Do you long to lose your head?"
"I, uh," he seems about ready to crack.
"If you do not proceed to begin taking us to see Lord Orpheus, I may collect your head myself."
The guard turns around and yells with a little bit of a frantic tone in his voice, "Raise the portcullis! Raise it!" He's waving his hands frenetically.
The portcullis starts to slowly rise. Dawn walks up to it and tosses it up to the top in a smooth motion. You have no trouble walking in.
The Lord's hearing chamber is easy to find; basically, it's just straight. He's sitting in a large, gold-plated, cushioned throne; an intelligent, shrewd-looking dark-skinned man in purple robes and a green cape. He's in a hearing with two others, and raises his hand to them for silence.
He inquires of you, "May I help you, sir?"
"My most gracious Lord. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Lord Pharaoh, and this is Lady Dawn. We are from the distant land of Kaiser Soshe. We are refugees seeking asylum and citizenship. We somehow crossed into your lands and have come to do the proper thing by presenting ourselves to you."
Lord Orpheus looks at you, and raises a hand to prevent the two guards in the room from advancing on you.
"If indeed what you say is true, Lord Pharaoh, I will grant you amnesty. I see you both have swords, and by the look of the two of you, you are no ordinary warriors, so I will provide you with a task.
"Five days' travel by horse to the setting sun lies the kingdom of the mystics.
"Bring me the mystic Lord's head, and I will grant you citizenship."
"My Lord, You will forgive me this question, but why do you wish him dead? The only reason I ask is that I prefer to know the reason I am about to kill a man. And I assume that if you are asking two people whose skills are unknown to you, that you have already sent your best and they failed?"
"We have been warring for generations. Many have undertaken this quest, and, clearly, none have succeeded.
"Long ago, he captured a member of the royal family, tortured her, bore a daughter by her, and then killed the mother. Killing him will be a great service to our people, and will allow you citizenship."
"Ah. A debt of honor. We will address this for your lordship, of course."
"We will provide you with three horses and ample supplies for your journey. Go quickly." One of the guards leads you from the throne room to the stables, where you're given three horses, dried, salted food, a tinderbox, a lighter, two bedrolls, and a tent.
"5 days towards the setting sun. Off we go, Dawn. I think we should hear thies other lord out before we just casually kill him. Agreed?"
