Nah. Retrieve my arrow, say to Cass, "There goes dinner."

Case teleports in front of it gets into style and solid punches it dead.

Case teleports in front of it gets into style and solid punches it dead.

Nice.

"Looks like our psionics are going to work here, then."

And I guess we'll eat good tonight.

*She rolls her eyes*

"The rule is the hunter hunts, the non hunter prepares."

*Do you know how to Slaughter a Game Animal?*

J

I've seen butchery both in person and on the food network. I'll be skinning and cutting from the hind legs to avoid anything from the stomach or organs.

((A 67 says you get a 1@2 Butchering Game Animals T3@3))

*You get some good cuts, more than enough to last a few days if cooked, going to start a fire to do that? Have you ever created a fire before?*

I have, actually, more times than I should probably mention, but I generally use a lighter or match to get it started. Igniting fire from friction not so much. I'll try to create a psionic Pyrogenesis if I don't know one already after I set up and section off the spot where the fire will be and tinder it with small twigs and dead leaves.

*Cass does mention with a smirk, she can make a fire, but seems content to let you man up and do this yourself.*

*You gather some twigs, dead leaves, and some bigger logs, and section it off with stone and you try to do the Pyrogenesis, and you blow up the greater east coast....just kidding you got yourself a 1@2 Pyrogenesis P7@4, I am going to assume you are using larger sticks to roast the meat on, Cass does pick some wild onion and makes it into a paste, so you to have some flavor to give it. When you two, do decide to eat, it is a pretty good meal, and you have rations for a few days. Cass fishes a short sword, and a bandoleer of daggers out of her pack.*

*She remarks*

"I did spend some time as a Thief in a place called Waterdeep, so I do have some ranged ability that isn't high tech."

"Oh, yeah? You throw daggers, then? That's a skill I've always wanted to learn. I've got that crossbow in my things, if you've got any skill with one of them. Also, our guns probably work fairly well; at least, the gunpowder ones. I just didn't want to draw attention to us by firing one."

*She nods*

"I do have skill with a crossbow as well, I spent quite a few years dungeon delving, backstabbing, engaging in political cat and mouse, turning enemies against each other. It was a good place for me to learn things, and I got some nice toys from it. I always took the non weapon stuff, I figured there were plenty of weapons in the verse, but the unique things are very hard to find outside of that place."

*She spends the night telling you stories of her adventures*

*At this point what are best hopes, worst nightmares?*

Best hopes would be find some excellent transportation heading out west, worst nightmares have to do with scriff-infected verser dragons on my cycle.

The thing that thinks it's me is also out there somewhere.

and encounters with demons are bad too.

*Well you got a 6*

"You see some wild horses in a clearing as you are moving along."

I motion toward them to Cass.

I'll try a psionic suggestion to get one of them to come up to us.

*One of them starts coming over to you guys, Cass is following your lead, wondering what you are wanting or planning on doing.*

"Got any vegetables or fruits?"

I'll try for another suggestion, this time to get it to think we're friendly.

*Cass nods and rummages through her bags, she does have some dried apple slices*

"Is this close enough?"

*The horse seems unmoved by your suggestion this time by it's body language*

"I know you like to do things for yourself tiger, so I will stay out of what you want to do unless you ask for help."

"Help is always welcome, dear."

We'll offer some dried apple slices to the horse, and I'll try to contact it telepathically, telling it, "I am Arziay and this is my mate, Cass. We mean no harm."

"The horse is thinking food isn't bad. She doesn't have a name, but is willing to be fed more to listen."

We'll feed her some more.

"We're heading to a warm land with lots of food. It would be very helpful if you would travel with us, and perhaps carry us part of the way, as you move much faster than we do. Once there, you will have expanses of wide open plains and good food."

((Failures on both parties))

*She thinks, keep the food coming, and I will make my decision at that point.*

*You have a possible ok from one horse, but there are two of you, any other plans? Would you like Cass to try for a horse herself?*

I glance to Cass and tell her, "Seems I'm getting nowhere with this one. Maybe you should try to convince one or two to help us; you're better at this kind of thing than I am."

To the horse, trying to gain some leverage, "Alright," and feed it a bit more before, "What's your life like here?" Stroke her neck, not pat it, since herbivorous animals take patting as a sign of aggression, but petting as non-threatening grooming.

((1 Success, 3 failures for various rolls))

*Cass gets a male black stallion to come over, but aside from coaxing it with food, it is much like the other. She starts communicating with it's mind. Looks like you will have to build up trust the natural way, but at least they are open to the idea.*

doublepost

I tell Cass aloud, "It looks like we're going to need more food."

To the horse, in thought, "I need something to call you; I find it disrespectful to call you 'you.' If you haven't a name, maybe we should come up with one together. How does Amazing Grace sound?"

((The GM thinks that is gay :P))

*The horse has no problem with that, Cass suggests Hampton for her horse, and yes, with horses, you will need to find a steady source of food for them, they do eat a lot.*

*Cass smirks*

"Well now, what's the plan now?"

The player used that name because he needed to come up with an easy to remember name for a mare quickly and once knew a mare by that name -- you had a chance to name it, too =P

§

"Well, we have to try to make friends with them, and convince them to come with us; it might require following them for a while."

To A. G., "Right. Amazing Grace it is, then. For a nickname, do you prefer Amy or Grace?"

*The horse has no preference, it just wants food, and will take time to earn trust. If you are feeding it and trying to earn the trust, then you can choose the name. If you are planning on gaining trust the old fashioned way, much of your day will be combing the area for food for both yourselves and the horses.*

*Cass agrees*

"Sounds like a plan, but what season is it, if it's coming close to winter, we should find somewhere to hold up."

"If it's getting close to winter, these two probably will be wanting to migrate south anyway; horses and snow don't mix well, I think."

I'll ask Amy what she thinks, whether the cold weather is coming soon or not, and whether she moves to warmer climes when it gets too chilly.

*The horses talk to each other in horse language, and come to an agreement*

*Amy thinks*

"We go south for food, if you can get us food and warmth and shelter, we won't have a reason to go."

*The male seems to agree with the statement as much as he can without speaking*

Horse language???

These horses seem much more intelligent than I had given them credit for.

I'm going to try to psionically tap into the language centers of its brain.

I don't have an example.

*They are among the mammals that can communicate to others of it's species through looks, body language, sounds, it's not really so much a spoken language*

*With a 5 you do without an example, what are you looking to do. The horses when "spoken to" respond in simple words or phrases, that I paraphrase into a sentence for you to understand.*

I will tell them aloud, then, that we would like very much to accompany them in the journey south, as we aren't cold weather creatures, either.

*They nods their head, in what you think is an agreement, and they start walking with you, you had a good GE roll, so that will be a week of walking, deer hunting, and gathering food for the horses. If you have your geography right, they are likely heading do Kentucky or Tenn, is they continue walking the direction they are in. Every once in awhile you feel eyes on you, but see no one.*

That's a good start towards our eventual destination. I certainly try to befriend Hampton and Amy on the way as best I can.

*Your and Cass's efforts are rewarded, halfway through your journey south, they let you ride them for stretches. You understand why saddles are good, as you two are sore, after a few hours. You think you are either in upstate New York, or Upper PA, it's hard to be sure, they seem alike, and there is no river dividing them*

*Your hunting for both meat and food for the horses goes well, you do find town of teepees in the distance.*

I'll tell Amy that we should stop there to speak with the natives; at any rate, they'll be friendly with the horses.

*You start walking to the village, you see some of the male indians pick up spears and bows, but not point them at you, as you walk in. It looks to be a fairly large 500 person village, they have many teepees and wigwams. You see many smoked carcasses of deer and other animals, plenty of furs, nuts, barries, and enough grain to feed an army of horses for years.*

*They start speaking to you in a strange language.*

*Do you wish to try something, or perhaps Cass to invent a spell?*

I'm going to try the skill I used to tap into the language centers so that I can understand what they're saying/speak to them once I know what they're saying.

((92 not a botch, but a failure))

*Your newfound skill, cannot connect tap into the language center, do you have any way to change things to try again or have Cass try and speak for you?*
