You begin walking along the road the signs say lead to Pewter city. Along the path, you see several Caterpies and Weedles, keeping to themselves and eating leaves.
Pikachu responds to you, "Chu!" She seems psyched to begin training.
"Alrighty, Pikachu." I stop near the first Caterpie I see that is not immediately near more Caterpies.
"OK, Pikachu. This is a Caterpie, I think. They aren't all that fast, at least not compared to you, but you have to watch out for their string. They shoot it out and if it gets you, you will slow down a lot. Let's see what Pokedex has to say on it before we try battling it, OK?"
I pull out Pokedex, and activate it, looking for the info on Caterpies
"Caterpie: the worm Pokémon. It releases a stench from its red antenna to repel enemies. It grows by molting repeatedly. It uses the suction cups on its feet to climb trees in search of food."
The screen says the average weight is 6.4 pounds and the average height is one foot.

"Hmm...I think this should be a good exercise in speed and strength, Pikachu. OK, besides watching out for the string, watch out for it trying to climb things to get away.
"Okay! Try to tackle it then move ut of the way. Don't let it hit you, physically or with it's string!"
Pikachu answers you, "Pi-KAH," then jumps into position.
The Caterpie sizes her up.
She tackles, catching the Caterpie head on and sending it rolling backward. It recovers and, as you anticipated, shoots a sticky weblike string at your Pikachu.
"Dodge, Pikachu!"
If she does: "Good work, Pikachu! Okay, be careful about that string, and tackle it again!"
If she doesn't: "Good effort, Pikachu! Okay, move your body as quickly as you can, right to left! Wiggle until the string loosens enough to get out of it!"
Okay, I like this world more than i thought I would. It is pretty interesting. and we've got Edgar, who is a Pokemon fanatic, religiously following this thread ;)
Pikachu dodges and nods when you call for another tackle.
She connects again, and the Caterpie rolls backward into a tree. It appears woozy, but is attempting escape up the tree.
"Hmm...let it go, Pikachu. We don't need to beat it COMPLETELY senseless. Good work! You would have taken it out in another hit-three tackles to knock something out is very good! You feeling alright?"
I assume pikachu is fine. Barring unforeseen difficulties, I ask: "Want to find another wild Pokemon to train against, Pikachu?"
Unforeseen difficulties that arise to prevent that course of action can be dealt with next post. Don't feel like coming up with 80 contingencies ;)
"Chuuuu," she responds in an enthusiastic affirmative. Her electricity-producing organs crackle and spark slightly.
"Haha, I see you are most certainly ready. Let'a find another!"
I head down the road some more, looking for the next wild pokemon that is not in a group, then engage it. Whatever it happens to be, i pull out the Pokedex first and formulate a strategy first...unless of course it happens to attack us before we attack it hehe.
EDIT: If another Caterpie, then no Pokedex. Instead, I tell Pikachu "Keep your distance and use lightning from afar-and watch for that string!"

There are several Caterpies in plain sight, so you have Pikachu use an electric ranged attack.

"Oh my god! Uhm....that was stronger than expected by far...let's not do that again, hmm? No reason to go killing things. Uhm...let me think..."
Silence for a moment.
"Oh, Pikachu, you doing all right?" I pick her up and look at her as i ask this.
If Pikachu is feeling tired, I will set her on my shoulder and trek down the road trying to get signficantly closer to the next town. If she isn't, I trek down the road and look for a Pokemon besides Caterpie, then consult the Pokedex.

hahaha, what you thought about the world you were in just got pwned. You didn't really think this world could be as harmless and light-heartedly friendly (ridiculously unrealistic) as that which you're used to, did you? for shame... I'm pro, remember?

Pikachu seems confused by your reaction, and concerned that she did something wrong. "Cha hu.. ?"
You find a Pidgey.
Admittedly, yes, I did, but even if I hadn't, the character would. My worry now, of course, is Pokemon fatality during trainer matches...
"Oh, it's OK, Pikachu. Don't worry about it overmuch." I pet her and give her a hug.
"Oh, a Pidgey!" I check Pokedex on it, but I won't wait on it. I don't expect you to keep making up Pokedex entries ;).
I say very quietly: "All right, Pikachu, this can be a good exercise in dodging...since it can fly around and all. We can work on your speed by seeing if you canhit it without it getting you."
Has it noticed us? Also, how sharp does it's beak look?

"Pidgey, the Tiny Bird Pokémon. It is docile and prefers to avoid conflict. However, if disturbed, it can fiercely strike back."
It's beak is small and pointy; in a nutshell it looks as if it is used for breaking through nutshells.
Pikachu readies herself, watching the as yet uncognizant bird carefully as it grooms itself, quietly saying, "Pidgey," to itself.
Did it notice us? My strategy was based on that. Oh well.
"OK, Pikachu...be very very quiet...and try to sneak up on it and attack it without it knowing you are here. Be very careful of that beak-it can really hurt. Once it starts flying, get ready to dodge. It will be hard to attack it when it is flying around, so stay safe, and wait for your opportunity. OK, go, sneak up on him." I set her down quietly. Then I pull out her Pokeball, ready to rescue her if need be.

She tackles the Pidgey and misses, barely, as the Pidgey gets wise and takes to the air.
It flies up into a tree looking unsettled and shakes itself a little, watching the two of you from its vantage point.
I missed that word somehow. Didn't even see it.
I watch it for several moments. Does it look like it will be coming back down? How high up is it, roughly?
It's about ten feet above your head and doesn't seem to be coming back down.
Pikachu awaits your order.
Are there branches that Pikachu can jump up onto? Oh, wait, how high can she jump? Let's find out, neh?
"Pikachu, how high can you jump? Or perhaps...can you climb?"
You're probably between 5 and 6 feet, which puts the Pidgey at fifteen or sixteen feet up; quite an impressive jump for any creature. Pikachu shows that she can jump from the ground to your shoulder; that won't be enough to jump the remaining 2/3 of the way, but she can also climb trees.
"Do you want to chase after it Pikachu? Or find something else?" I gauge Pikachu's reaction closely. I am trying to learn to communicate with her effectively.
She seems ready to fight. "Pikachu," she says emphatically, the red glands in her cheeks crackling.
"Hmmm....zap the branch it's standing right next to it's feet; that will make it come down!"
I am still holding her pokeball, just in case.
"Chuuuu!" She zaps the branch beneath the bird-type's feet.
The branch breaks, and the bird falls down to the ground, apparently stunned if not unconscious.
"Hmm. This is all too easy for you, by the look of it. We need to find something more challenging. Something perhaps not wild....Let's go on to the next town, and keep an eye out for other trainers."
I pick Pikachu up and set her on my shoulder, then set off down the road, traveling until something happens, it gets late, or I get there.
You continue toward Pewter city, but, as practically anticipated, you do face an interruption before making it very far down the road.
"Prepare for trouble," the familiar voice comes from up in the trees.
"And make that double," her male partner responds.
As expected, of course.
I attempt to visually locate them as quickly as i can, and as soon as I do, I interrupt their speech with:
"Pikachu, there those creeps are again! Lightning blast them!" I set her down as I yell this, then scoop her back up after (don't want to be touching her when she discharges bolts of electricity-you never know).
Then we run past them and down the road.
The three of them all scream in pain and fall from the tree, only to trigger their own trap, which catapaults them up into the air and off into the distance.
"looks like you blasted off again!" I shout after them.
"Good work, Pikachu. You have a lot of raw power, you know that? You are a natural." I pick her up, smile at her, set her on my shoulder, and set off down the road again, traveling until something happens, it gets late, or I get there.

The sun begins to set as you are breaking free from the forest into a grassland. You don't see any sign of the city.
Look like a good place to camp. I look for a nice flat spot of ground and set up camp, get out some foor for me and Pikachu, and check my supplies (the stuff Oak gave me), to see how much there is and what all is there.
After that, sleep time. Anything of note happen?
No, nothing particular.
You continue along the footpath; you see some stationary Geodudes pretending to be rocks, and you see a city beginning to peek over the horizon.
I continue into the city. How big is the city? Will I have difficulty finding my way around? My first stop is the gym. Good place to find trainers. Assuming I can find it.
It isn't particularly hard to find your way around, no.
You find the Gym easily enough; according to the sign out front, the Leader of this Gym specializes in rock-type Pokémon.
